Figuring out that my skin could be oily _and_ dehydrated was a game changer. I used to wash my face with Neutrogena's oil free face wash, and then never moisturized. My skin around my nose, forehead and eyes would flake, and only at that point would I apply just a tiny bit of a Cetaphil moisturizer, which wasn't the right one for my skin, so I'd break out even more in the areas I used it, and stop using it. And then the cycle would repeat itself. My current routine involves cleansers that do not leave my skin literally _squeaky_ clean, and I moisturise twice a day, among other things. My mom really thinks that people with oily skin don't need moisturiser, and that my skincare routine is a bit excessive, but although my acne still flares up, my overall skin health is a million times better than it's ever been since I hit puberty. My skin hasn't been flaky in years now, the little spots caused by sun damage around my eyes are gone, my skin texture is more even, and my oil production has gone way down! I no longer feel and look like a glazed donut by the end of the day lmao. Not being in actual pain has been life changing. Not wondering if I'm gonna powder my desk with flakes when I inevitably scratch my very itchy face in school. I don't feel embarrassed about my skin anymore. Another big change: I feel like I have actual _agency_ now! The condition of my skin felt out of control for so long, and I felt doomed. I felt like there was nothing I could do to help my skin. But once I started learning about how skin actually works, that feeling stopped. When my skin introduces a problem, I feel like I have the power to find a solution. Knowledge and understanding truly is liberating!

Ancient Egyptians followed three simple steps to take care of their bodies: cleanse, treat and moisturize. They used dead sea salts to remove impurities, then washed with a soap made of clay and oil. Once a week, they would hydrate their skin with a mixture of milk and honey.

That's basically any moisturizer. You could look for a lotion or cream ( if you want more oil ) or if you want more hydrating then a gel based one. That all depends on your skin type.

Love the organic chemistry! I remember looking at Kylie Skin when it came out and she said "there's no alcohol in my products" and as a chemist I'm reading the ingredient list reading all of the "-ols" like.... girl. Technically no "drying" alcohols but they're there!

I bought the Juice Beauty one a while back, the dang $65 one 🥴 with the “stem cells” and it just doesn’t do much on my skin, I have normal to dry sensitive skin (it leans more on the dry side) and I somehow feel more dry after using that even though it is a thick cream. Same with the Pacifica one in the purple jar, they just aren’t very emollient, and I’ll wake up with my skin feeling slightly dryer than normal. Oddly enough my skin does really well with Skinfix triple lipid barrier, the pyunkang yul moisture cream, and the kiehls moisturizer. I have seen that those make my skin feel the most bouncy/moisturized.

Absolutely love Lactic Acid topped with hylouronic acid and then Alo Vera gel Mixed with the ordinary amino acids then squaline oil . I also throw some vitamin c in their for brightening and antioxidant support. Primrose is fantastic as well, but a bit too much for when I'm more oily. Also The Curel Sensitive moisturizer is fantastic for under eyes and on smile line and neck and body it's inexpensive. But has ceramide and Patrollium and made a huge difference under my eyes. I live in Colorado so it's dry af out here and this combo changed my skin in like 5 minutes not even joking

For now I’m using the cetaphil gentle cleanser for dry skin and the cerave moisturizing lotion for dry skin, that’s all my skincare but I would like to incorporate more products on my skin just that i don’t know what to use🙇🏻‍♀️ I love all your videos and the way you explain everything♥️

I can't use the cleansers marketed to Oily skin because they dry me out so much even though I have oily skin. Including hydrating products into my routine has completely changed the look and feel of my skin and it's CRAZY how it was really just that simple.

I have super dry skin that flakes off especially in my t zone and it's gone for the first time in probably almost 10 years. Thanks Cassandra for all your great tips. I had a question about toners. I saw recently you mentioned to apply toner without the makeup pads to save on product. I always thought toner was also about a second level of makeup removal as much as adding the product. I also saw on the inky list skin routine that they put toning after hydration which again felt strange to me as I feel like I would be removing the first product. Can you help me understand how and when to use toner in this new skincare world! 😊
@db-gb5xi
@db-gb5xi 2 жыл бұрын
In the old days, alcohol based toners were used to cleanse skin after washing because of the soap quality. That's not the case today. Toners today are used for hydration or treatment. One esty I follow, Go See Christy, has a whole video devoted to how to apply in your routine. Most suggest using hydrating toners after washing the face and then applying products over. Some use cotton pads, some pat it onto the skin and some place the toner in spray bottles and use it that way (you wouldn't do that with an active toner like glycolic or bha). Any decent brand/product should instruct how to use the product.
