My Aussie friend spoke to her kids completely in English and her French husband spoke to the kids in french from the day they were born. Sometimes the kids would speak half a sentence in french and English when they were 3/4 but that went. They’re now both bilingual twenty somethings xx

That’s actually a myth that’s been busted Sarah. Multilingual babies develop speech at the same rate as monolingual babies. They just have a bigger vocabulary and sound system they have to switch between. Just like bilingual adults who switch, there’s a slight brain fart, but we don’t think adults are delayed or cognitively inferior. Sabrina will receive a lot of English/French in school and with friends and only receive Korean from dad and Tagalog/Arabic from mom. If you want her to pick it up, you HAVE to expose her to the other languages very often.

Linguist here. You will not confuse your child by teaching them multiple languages at once. The only thing that may happen is that they will start speaking a bit later, but once they do they’ll be fully fluent

Hi! I teach English and Spanish, and event though we live in the US, my husband and I have always spoken Spanish to our 3 kids. They had no problem learning, speaking and reading in English. All 3 of them learned to read English at age 3 and the girls spoke in full sentences both in English and Spanish at a very young age (before age 2). I’m not trying to brag, just trying to encourage you to start speaking other languages to your daughter and start from the beginning with your second baby. What I’ve seen happens with parents who’re afraid their kids will get confused is that their kids end up being monolingual, speaking only English as adults. Don’t do that to your child when you can give her the gift of more languages. Why do most people in Europe speak 2 or more languages? Because they’re exposed to many different languages from a very young age. We’re pretty smart when we’re young and everything is new. She will not get confused. Wish you the best on your decision ❤️

If Justin speaks to her in Korean and Sarah speaks to her in Tagalog and her Day home speaks to her in English, she can take Arabic classes as she gets older. She will be a little delayed, but when she speaks she will be fluent in all languages. She is young enough to pick it all up, since at her age she is a sponge. Whatever you guys choose, I am so excited that you will have her to be multilingual. You won’t regret it. Enjoy your new journey. Also, Congratulations on your new pregnancy. Take care.

I grew up speaking 3 languages french with my mom & Spanish with my dad! Not only am I now fluent in French and Spanish but because my parents spoke to my siblings & I in their native tongues, they also learned each other’s language which is a great bonus. My parents were not concerned about speaking English at home much, as my siblings and I all learned English once we started school! By all means speak in your native tongues as much as possible! All love, be well. ❤️

As someone who grew up bilingual with many other languages surrounding me I think it's really beneficial for the brain to be surrounded by more than 1 language, a child's ability to learn language is astronomical. It's definitely a benefit! There might a bit of confusion in interchange with words but I think simultaneously learning language is better than waiting until she speaks one fluently.

My brother has a son, and is Finnish and his partner is Croatian. They're teaching him all three. The boy is in English daycare, whilst my brother speaks exclusively Finnish and the partner speaks exclusively croatian to the little one. It takes a bit longer for trilingual children to start speaking, but it is so worth it as they will have all three. Don't give up! Speak all three regularly to Sabrina!!! I know many people my age who are trilingual from their families and are fluent, smart etc in all the ways!

As always, I have enjoyed watching your videos and seeing little Sabrina grow, so my tip to you anyone out there wanting to learn is to just do it & as bilingual parent, I also did what I am suggesting so just go for it, speak to Sabrina in Arabic, Tagalog, Korean and French and you can repeat the same phrase in English, followed by French & Tagalog. . . And you or Justin can repeat each others phrase. .."Mom, I am hungry. .. "Mama' tengo hambre"... "Maman j'ai faim". . . .so teach by each other small phrases like example. . .'water', 'agua' 'l'eau' and than get her incolved Sabrina look water, agua, l'eau and so on and this way she'll see whatnthe heck mommy & daddy are talking about 🥰 Have fun learning.

Speak all languages. A child will learn all three. It only delays when she speaks in sentences. But she will be able to catch on. I spoke English till 16. My mom would not let me speak Tagalog so I don’t lose my American accent. But she spoke to me in Tagalog. I would have to answer in English. It made it easier for me to start speaking Tagalog. My kids were the same. They learned Tagalog from my watching Tagalog movies and singing in Tagalog.

There is not much you can do wrong by teaching your child multiple languages from a young age on. I was born and raised in Germany to Vietnamese immigrants who barely spoke any German. We still speak Vietnamese only at home unless there are more complicated words. They spoke to me in Vietnamese only until I was about 2 years old and then taught me all German they knew so I could go to kindergarten and socialize with other kids. When I was about 6, I picked up English from my brother since he was already in Middle School. That made it easier for me to speak fluently in 3 languages by the time I went to school. I'm also currently learning French as a 24 year old which is probably easier for me than others since all 3 languages are quiet helpful (vocabulary and even grammar).

Cutie Taylor, I agree. I don't know what I'll do when Sabrina starts blowing kisses from the palm of her hand instead of her unique back of the hand kiss☺️ There is no feeling to top that of being able to converse fluently in other languages, to be a multi lingual family is such a blessing and Sabrina should have the benefit of being a polyglot she's so bright. It makes sense for her to learn English first but Tagalog would be the next natural language as she is exposed to more family who speak it than Korean . It's a shame that she doesn't have more exposure to her Korean relations but we all know how that came about and that's why it's important for her to be fully conversant in Korean too. You will figure out the manner and order in which she learns each language, she will amaze you all with how quickly she retains each language. You will all learn from each other and that's an awesome thing. Will enjoy watching you all progress😉

There’s no confusing and the delay is not that big of a deal... My family has had kids learning multiple languages from get go for years and I’m doing that now with my 2 & half yo boy. I suggest dad ONLY speaks Korean to her even if talking to other in front of her in English. And mamá should ONLY speak Filipino to her all the time. No dummying down, speak normal to her each in your own language. She’ll pick English from others and other kids. You’ll see she’ll gain understanding very rapidly! And In due time she’ll start talking as well. Do Filipino songs/videos in the morning and Korean songs/videos in the afternoon after the nap if she still naps. You can alternate every other week. DONT BE AFRAID, IT WORKS AND ITS GREAT FOR THE NEUROPLASTICITY OF KIDS!!!! My mom is a PhD F/ Virginia Tech and my cousins’ kids in Belgium grew up speaking 3 languages like that. And now my boy too... No regrets! God bless you all! 😘💕💕💕💕

My children from day one was spoken to in Dutch and English and none of them suffered from delayed speech. The laguage center of a child's brain is ripe for easily picking up languages. Not only did they get spoken to in both languages, they were also read books in both. I tried as much as possible to buy the same books both languages and I also bought audio children's books, films, tv shows, etc for them to listen to in both. By tdhe time they were 4 yrs. they were able to instantly translate conversations /questions from either language that father (Dutch) and I (American) would use and they were ahead of all their classmates who were in a single language home. Just make it as fun as possible for her and good luck with the journey. ❤❤❤

As others said, you can just speaking to her in your respective languages along with English, so at the least she can have a understanding in all 3. Kids do confuse at first but it’s actually really good for the kid in the future. For example since i was born i was tought 3 languages at the same time and no one worried about me getting confused. At the end it was worth it cuz i know multiple languages and i developed a talent to learn languages. So i’m just gonna say go for it!! The more the better

Teach her your languages early. I’m half Filipino, but my mom didn’t teach me how to speak Tagalog. I’m teaching myself the language when I have free time, but I definitely wish I knew more when I was younger.

That's good you are taking this serious. In my house there are three languages, but my kids only speak English. I am a native Spanish speaker, and my husband is a native Russian speaker, and we didn't manage to teach our kids our native languages.

Our kids are bilingual, what worked for us was speaking our respective languages exclusively and consistently. I only spoke English to our kids and he only spoke French. Their speech was delayed only slightly but it's not a speech impediment, their brains are just working things out. If you want them to lean each language like their first language, this is the best way. They get confused when parents aren't consistent. The key is consistency.

I’m a language teacher in graduate school. The best way is for Justin to speak to her in Korean (fully) and announce before you do it. “Let’s play in korean now!” Or something. Eventually she will figure out the difference. The same with Sarah and Tagalog or Arabic or anything else! She will pick up on them more slowly, but if you speak to her mainly in English and she goes to school which is mainly in English she will always pick that up most. So it’s fun to speak the non-English languages at home as much as possible. But this is up to you and no matter what it’ll work out. Kids have amazing abilities to pick up on languages. My husband is South Korean and I am a French and English speaker from America. I’m learning Korean and my husband knows English. We plan to have my husband speak mainly Korean to our daughter (since it’s his fluent language) and I will speak English to her first. This way the baby can differentiate the languages by the person at first (even if they don’t fully understand the concept of a language yet). This has usually helped children keep from mixing languages too much and becoming too confused. I do want to say again, however you choose to do it will be the best. However you’re comfortable will be just fine! I’m just sharing what my studying has led me to, not trying to pressure you or something crazy. It is different when English is your only common language between you both. You should also speak to her in English at home :) little by little she will become a language genius if she wants to 😂 she is so lucky to have different languages and cultures to learn! 💕

There's a German woman who has a youtube channel called Don't Trust the Rabbit. Her partner is from Venezuela, and they have two children. Their kids are growing up tri-lingual. He speaks Spanish with the kids. She speaks German with the kids. And when the family is all together, they speak English. The kids seem to be doing okay with it. I'm sure yours will benefit from being in a multi-lingual home.

Well i am from curaçao and most people speak 4 to 5 languages. What they do over here is that each parents speak a different language to the child cause the native language will be learned at daycare and then at school when she is interacting with other kids.

It delays speech but once they start speaking they catch up fast. Start speaking to her now. My 4 year old speaks 3 languages already the earlier you start the better because they will not use it if they are alreadyfluentin one language. She will be interested in whatever you show interest in. I've learned my husband's language and he's learned mine just from us teaching our daughter.

No, that is not true. It will not delay her speech. It is just more vocabulary for her to sort through. Please do teach her both of your languages. It is best for kids to be introduced multiple language between 2-5 years old. That is the best time because that is when they pick up language the most. That is the one thing I wish my mom would have done when I was young. I wish she spoke to me in Vietnamese because it is so much harder for me to try and learn now and I can’t even communicate with my grandparents. I wish I knew and grew up speaking Vietnamese, so I could teach my kids. Don’t underestimate Sabrina. Kids pick up on so many things! You would be surprised.

I'm fluent in 3 languages because my parents did not allow us to speak English in the house. We speak English everywhere else. You know what's best for you. Good luck on your journey.

Please speak to her in all languages. Language is developing even before the child learns to speak themselves. You will not regret it and you will be surprised to see how easily she is able to distinguish the languages a bit later.

Baby's brains are like sponges. The younger they are when exposed to different languages, the more synapses are built in their brain (bridges). You can always start with baby books in your respective native languages and perhaps speak more in your native languages at home. Two to Three languages at a time are fine. She will not necessarily be delayed in her speech progress. When she is older you can pick a cartoon in another language and watch it with her regularly. The key to natural language learning as a child is sustained exposure.

i think sabrina is lucky growing up in a bilingual household. my parents are from Canada but immigrated to Australia when I was born. they speak French, but I never learned as it wasn't a priority growing up in Australia. I wish now that I took up French wen I was little

I was raised bilingual in the US. American mom, French dad. I also attended a French-American school for 9 years and learned to read and write in French. The delayed speech is nonsense and been debunked by SO many professionals. I learned both languages at the same time. It was important for me to learn since all my dad’s relatives speak French. Sure I mixed up words when I was young but I was always aware the languages were different, even if I maybe did not understand what language was at a young age. The time to teach her is NOW. Kids under the age of 5 are sponges and absorb everything so fast. The longer you wait, the harder it will be. You don’t wait for her to show “interest.” It is up to you to take the initiative. If you don’t teach her, she won’t learn. Simple. To this day native French people are floored by my level of French and don’t understand how I speak it so well without an accent given I have never lived in France. If you don’t teach Sabrina now, she probably won’t be multilingual later.
