Predictions: -The industry will take longer than we all like to catch up with production shortages, so we will see both an increase in the 2nd hand market (again) and any new tech launched will only become available long after the digital press camps. -Racing will be pushed back and the field will be very different from previous seasons as riders struggle with bridging the lockdown. -DH bikes will become closer to being custom rather than off-the-shelf - like a rally car, they will still be the pinnacle, but not something the average rider will ride. -Tyres will launch with inserts built in -EMTBs will evolve quicker than MTB and the gap between them will widen - trails will be added with uphills which are almost impossible on a standard MTB just to keep everyone happy. Dream: -I can't be the only person who deams of the day we can talk in Metric standards..... And I will make a video of the Bike Cave once it is finished :-)

I for one, would welcome the opportunity to purchase a 2nd hand 2019 or 2020 model of a Nukeproof.....problem is where to find them....I will not buy on Gumtree or eBay on principal....any good MTB forums that are reputable sources for these?

Thank you for mentionining 27.5 inch. With everyone raving about 29ers being faster etc. many forget that sometimes it's ok not to be the fastest and just ride for maximum fun. None of us here are good enough to become pro racers i bet, so why not maximize on fun instead.

Hi Doddy, I sincerely hope that mountain bike manufacturers actually take a single minute to actually care about bike fit in their sizing guidelines. Perhaps it's because I was a roady, but crank arm lengths and qfactors were key components of an optimal fit. 175mm cranks on a medium frame is INSANE. It behooves the industry to be conservative on crank arm lengths if they care about the long term health of customers. There will be many people forced to quit riding due to worn out knees and bad hips and backs etc... Q-factor and crank arm lengths have a greater impact on pedaling efficiency, as well as endurance and long term health of a rider's joints. A healthier and less fatigued rider will be in mountain biking a lot longer. The extra torque generated by longer cranks on a mountain bike are marginal, and probably contribute to greater wheel spin at the back. Also, in the attack position, the farther apart your feet are from one another, you've reduced the amount your legs can contribute in absorbing bumps or more of a symmetrical dexterity for cornering. I tried 175 cranks on my bike (normally 170mm), and right away i noticed I wasn't pumping as well, and the differences in my left/right cornering were exaggerated. The pedaling efficiency also went down in my case. I'm saying all this with the full understanding that size and fit are subjective, however I can't ever remember a fit methodology (NECA fit kit, Keith Bontrager, KOPS) which resulted in a rider under 5'10" riding with 175mm cranks unless they were doing TT's or track work. I've gleaned so much from GMBN since I started mountain biking 7 years ago. Many thanks for the great content!!! PS: if you aren't shuttling or on lifts, it's statistically impossible for you to not spend more TIME seated and pedaling going up, vs. standing on the pedals going down.

My first adult-size bike was a cheap completely solid steel-frame "Pacific Ricochet" my parents bought from K-Mart (American superstore) in the mid-90's. I was just at the bike shop to buy my first new bike in 25 years and couldn't get over how much "hybrids" and gravel bikes (minus the drop bars) look like mountain bikes from the early-mid 90's... None of the shop employees seemed to recognize the resemblance...

10:00 you got a point there - being a tall rider with long feet (1,96m, and 49 or 6'5" and 15) my heels are often rubbing on the rear chainstays. This will only get worse with with even wider rear axles.

Gravel bikes make a lot more sense in an arid climate. It's the same principal where a short travel bike offers more than a burly enduro bike on most trails. A drop bar gravel bike on dry, smoother trails and particularly fast singletrack is an absolute blast. On trails like that even a trail bike would be dull.

I agree, Doddy. Super wide is NOT required, use 32/ 36 spokes if necessary. We don't need a wider back end just a stronger one, and like some of the other commenters here my feet sometimes catch the stays on some bikes already. A great way to stop sales for bike companies, is to make them impractical.

I’m not so keen on the old two bike comparison videos they always seem set up to favour one bike. When I initially got my gravel Bike I was riding a fair amount of mtb stuff on it. Yea it can do it but it’s grim, not something you wanna spend a lot of time doing. As an XC mtb would be much quicker and more comfortable for sure! But then for the miles of disused railways turned into public footpaths and old country back roads and woodland single track its great it eats up the miles on these railways. Pre lockdown I’d spend most my time at the Golfie riding enduro but if I want a change or scenic social ride, I’d pick up the gravel bike point it in a direction and just go.

#AskGMBNTech Hi Doddy, hope you're doing good. I've got a question about some not so new tech My Fox 32 Performance has a 150mm travel and fitted on my 2016 Scott Genius. Bike was bought brand new in July 2020 I'm experiencing some vibration and a 'knocking' sound when I'm braking (front brake) heavily on a steep smooth road. I'm not sure what it is but it feels like it's coming from the front axle and makes me think something is going to come off I've checked everything I can: 1. Headset for creaks. I've even cleaned them and made sure there's no play 2. Brake caliper is mounted securely on the fork 3. Brake rotor is tightened correctly onto the wheel (Shimano centre lock type). Rotor is not bent as I do not hear any rubbing when front wheel is spinning 4. Wheel spokes are tensioned correctly 5. My wheel which is built around a standard Shimano 15TA x 100mm hub spins smoothly without any creaks from the bearings 6. I've even tried loosening and also slightly tightening my QR TA. Same symptoms occur under both conditions I'm not sure what else can be the culprit. The same 'knocking' sound is also heard when I cycle my front suspension Would you know what could be the problem? Is it because a Fox 32 isn't really stiff enough for 150mm of travel and the vibration and knocking sound is due to the fork flexing a little during heavy braking? I hope it's not anything to do internally with the fork. Please please please help. Thank you so much in advance. Lots of love from Malaysia
