What Place did you get? Should have filmed race with go pro on helmet or bike mounted sure theres a way, even if people rip past you. Somebodys gotta be last, or first. Needed a pipe guard.

@@wranglerstar Long ride impresive you finished. If you didn't race it you wouldn't know your skill level probably learned a few things. Maybe different hand grips and thicker riding gloves would help with the blisters.

I'm an old desert racer from Utah who has been away from the racing side of the sport for a few decades, and the differences between now and then were brought out really well in this video. We used to go down to the races in a pickup truck, and literally sleep under the truck in the dirt the night before. I would have drooled back then to see the knee protection you had, as well as all the specialty clothing/body armor. Our high tech was drilling a hole in a canteen cap, and running an auto windshield washer hose from there up into the helmet so we could drink ala camelback style long before camelbacks came out. We raced in levi's, but had racing boots (Hi Points), helmets, and gloves. One thing looks like it hasn't changed though; it's still a lot of fun!!

People don't understand how hard a 100 mile race is. I raced the gncc series back when it was called the "100 miler series", including the blackwater 100. 100 miles on an old husky without a water pack is quite an experience. Nowadays I ride a new KTM 300 with all the bells and whistles and I complain if it rains too much the day before riding, haha. Sincerely, a filthy east coaster.

Nice! I've raced the Desert 100 several times, and get goosebumps watching videos like this. It is not a fun race, but the stories and sense of accomplishment are worth it. The first 20 miles are crazy. It is physically demanding. It's mentally grueling, as you're in a weird mental state of intense concentration. If you'd have told me, I would have driven over to be your pit crew (not that you have any clue who I am). I typically spend the following week or so reliving the race, and thinking about all the mistakes I made and how much better I could have finished.

D100 Vet here. That place is relentless rocks and whoops. Duct tape that # next year. Lol. 100miles is a great distance for an old timer. Odessa is where the dirt and the rocks are the same color and makes for extremely challenging riding. I love the terrain over there and have many, many fond memories of that race weekend. I'll be there for Poker Run next year.

I've been to Odessa 3 times with my best friend. We did the iron man dual sport run, its twenty-five miles on the trail and twenty-five on surrounding roads - navigating. The dual sporters are treated to a beer tent with bratwurst at the end of the route. What I remember about Odessa is the dust, sore legs, jagged rocks, and chaos with other riders on the trail. But we had a fun time camping over the weekend, it's an experience. As a note - Unfortunately, I live on the left coast of WA.

My first year I wrecked hard, second one I took 89th, and the third year was 18th!! But it rained that week and those desert guys are not used to it, the 4th was another wreck! 😂. That's a fun race!
