I was interested in swimming so, in order to avoid being home when my parents were awake, I had various activities at the pool every night of the week. At the end of lifesaving classes, the swimming club had the pool next and I recognised a very pretty (but younger) girl from diving. I caught her eye and swam over. She ran to join me at the edge, I invited her to join me as my guest and we swam before we left and the swimming club took over. One guy approached wide-eyed and said "Blimey! I thought you had to talk to them first!" I could have corrected him but it was more fun to shrug and reply, "Well, you've either got it or you don't!"

I have a funny story about rumors. My hubby and I have dated in middle school, then remained friends through high school. We started dating again when we were 19 (we are now 36). We got engaged fairly quickly, since we had known each other for years, but didn't get married for a few years. Ever since we got together, there have been 2 rumors about our relationship. The first is that he is abusive. Considering my stepdad is a former Green Beret, he would never lay a hand on me. The second is that he was only marrying me because I was pregnant (I wasn't). Not sure how that is scientifically possible, but ok

Best thing I can recall was being a non American actually. When I moved to a different area in my state, my accent was “non existent” and no one believed I was from the same area just one with a lighter accent. I had to learn to talk twice because I had nearly gone deaf and I was mute, so I learned to speak very clearly and had none of the twang people around me did thanks to my teacher. So when I moved? I had people guessing I was from the other side of the world, mostly Italy. Many thought I was Italian for years and I think some of those people still do.

My dad is a teaching assistant for at-risk kids at my former high school. He’s 6’5” with a deep voice that carries and he’s pretty broad. The kids he worked with started a rumor that he was a former drill sergeant for the military. Every time someone asked him if it was true, he would say “I don’t like to talk about my past.” I think the funniest part was that he was a college dropout who married a doctor and became a stay-at-home dad for the first 8 years of my life. He’s also a theatre kid at heart and paints miniatures for Warhammer 40k. Probably the nerdiest guy I know.

When I was in high school a girl got mad at me over a lie her bf told her. She walked up and punched me on the jaw. I got suspended for 3 days, her for 10 days. By the time I got back it was going around that she had knocked the crap out of me and that my blood was all over the lockers. When I walked in and there was not a single mark on me every one freaked. She actually had broke a blood vessel in her hand and it was swollen for like 2 months.

I'm a quiet guy at work, and take a long break once a year. During one of these breaks someone asked what exactly I did in my off time and no-one was sure. When I got back I heard that I was some kind of Cassanova who'd been discreetly sleeping with half the town. Single, married, multi-partnered, and including 3 of the female sandwich bar managers, was 'secretly' the father of all of their first children (they had all got first-time pregnant not long after they got the manager job). Not gonna lie; it was quite nice they thought I was attractive and charming enough to achieve that.😁

I work at a casino, had 4 rumors about me: First was someone thinking I got fired, but it was someone who looked like me. I was gay. I had really bad anxiety growing up, and it only got worse when women would approach me. So anytime anyone saw me, it was with my close group of male friends. Girls would scoff at me (being gay wasn’t okay at the time), guys would look at me funny and my anxiety would only get worse. I graduated, and took up wanting to be a pilot… which is a male dominated sector. Didn’t help. So fast forward 9 years, I’m in the military and been around a few corners of women. One of the people I had reconnected from HS had a conversation with me. Conversation goes: Her: so when did you change? Me: What? What are you talking about? Her: when did you start liking girls? Me: I’ve always liked girls! Her: that’s not what I heard. And suddenly 8 years of anxiety filled memories from school flooded my brain. The reason why nobody ever wanted to talk to me, is because they thought I was gay! Maybe I should hit up my HS crush and see what she thought about it.

I got tons of rumors about myself in high school. I was the most popular in my high school, so I didn’t mind. Instead I used to not give an answer to see how far they’d take it… They’d say I had who knows how many surgeries, that I was gay, or that I was into this or that other guys, or that I was ultra rich, or that I was sleeping with the principal, etc… I never corrected anyone, and I asked my friends to not defend me and instead tell me how far those rumors were taken. I had such a laugh every time hearing what they were saying 🤣🤣

Back in the 90s it was hilarious that someone thought I was racist not knowing I'm half native American and that I had a Filipina girlfriend. Thankfully our other co-worker straightened her out😂.

a lot of people in High School tried calling me a brown noser... which is hilarious because I was the one who always made a point to be annoying about work and doing tasks in ways that were technically in regulations but not the way it was intended and anyone with working eyes should have seen that I did everything I could to annoy the faculty, I was even smart enough that I was always the first to finish tests and got 100% on them... one teacher tried to get me by giving me this "impossible" math test while the other students got a paper that said "don't say anything, in 5 minutes turn this in and say that it was super easy" and 3 minutes later I turned in my paper telling the teacher "this test was a joke on my intelligence" and I got a 100% on that too... pissed him off so badly

The story about being "secretly black" reminds me of living in another country and learning that one of my teenage neighbors asked my roommate whether I was "a black American or a white American". When I was about 16, my Mum started dating someone. They bought a house together. I hated him, so I moved out as soon as I could; as close to my 18th birthday as I could manage. When I was about 21-22, We, Mum and me, were both single, so we moved back in together in the community where we'd been living before. Funniest rumor about me. In my twenties, I moved to a smallish town where one of my close friends lived. I'd been there about a year when I went to my home town to visit family for a couple of weeks. I came back to rumors that I was pregnant with twins, and not only was a guy I'd been seeing the father, so was my close friend. Insane that people in their twenties and thirties somehow got that started in a two weeks span, and believed it. I was 5'8" and weighed 118 lbs. Really skinny. So I certainly didn't look pregnant. But the really funny thing? My mother, who was a foster parent, had upgraded from a car to a van, and given me her car. When I got back to town I met our group of friends at a restaurant. I spend the next hour listening to everyone asking me if the rumors were true, and denying them. When we leave, I hit the wrong button on the key fob and pop the trunk, only to discover my mother accidentally left two car seats and a twin stroller back there. It took months to kill that rumor after that!

Best rumor i heard about myself. I had picked up a cat that got ran over off the road with my jacket and looked for its owner. Kids at school saw that, and two days later, I heard that I performed necromancy rituals with dead cats. It was a small town.

The craziest rumor about me was in my early 20s. 5 years ago I moved to Florida for 2 years, and deleted my facebook, instagram, and snapchat. And people legitimately thought that i committed suicide after winning the lottery and even claimed that they went to my funeral.

I allegedly changed school in 9th grade because I was absent for 2 days. My dad was on a work trip and brought me and my grandmother during my school's spring break for 12 days. I returned right before lunch on Wednesday when school started back up to classmates thinking I moved. In 10th grade, I went to one of the restrooms after school hours. The lights were off and needed a special key that only janitors had. After realizing that it's too dark to see anything, I left. Some guy who saw me go in there came up the idea that I was pleasuring myself despite only being there for less than 5 seconds. Luckily that one didn't spread too far and people have common sense

When I was a kid in 2009/2010 around Christmas I caught H1N1 and was in the hospital for about two months because I could not breathe on my own, when I finally came back to school the entire school including teachers thought I had died. Funny part is the principal even thought this when my parents informed her I would not be back to school due to medical matters lmao

Not really a "rumor", but something people talked about behind closed doors about me: My middle-high school friend (Let's call her Addy) told me why she didn't really like me at first. For context, there was a moment in her first year in my class and some kids got on Addy's nerves and began to scream and even told me some mean things when the loud noises overstimulated me and got me worked up, and therefore led me to a full on breakdown. I never really understood why before that incident she would ignore me, or even roll her eyes when I said hello; until five years later, Addy would tell me her story: apparently she once helped bring her old friend to popularity and one her friend was popular, she would bully Addy so bad she had to transfer to the school I was at. Addy would then say that she was expecting me to be a mean girl too because she would hear other students and describe me as pretty and kind and staff would compliment me for being fairly smart. I was in shock because I never really saw myself as pretty because I was fat and had frizzy hair, and wore glasses. And I never saw myself as kind either because the middle school I was in didn't really help me with my mental disorders, but rather placed strict rules and put me close to people that would do things to tick me off and blow up at people around me such as chewing to loud or showing disgust at me everytime I was in a conversation. Not to mention at my school if you had a bad enough breakdown staff would literally carry you by the arms to a locked, padded room with security cameras; when I was first sent to that room I was traumatized and began screaming and crying. I was brought to that school after I was constantly bullied by other students and mistreated by teachers to the point that a girl shoved me down a staircase and I had to scream loud enough to get the principal's attention. It was then I was self-taught to use aggression to make people leave me alone when I scared off another bully by charging at him until he ran off because no teacher bothered to stop him. When Addy told me when people complimented me behind my back I felt a little bit happy after being a punching bag throughout my years in elementary. I would tell Addy about how I was bullied too why I would use intimidation to keep others from picking on me. I hope to keep in touch with Addy again soon because ot seems we share similar interests and have great plans for the future.

The program I work for, the beneficiaries thought I was the director's son. Honestly, I had just moved away from home and trusted the guy since he knew of my parents. So I tended to hover near him since I felt comfortable around him. I have GAD(Generalized Anxiety Disorder)

I heard from another actor that I had no right to plead poverty since i had property all over the city. I had a mortgaged house, but I was resented a lot for my supposed wealth.

That I was supposedly moving away - even though there was no 'for sale' sign on my parents' property. As a child, I lived on the kitty-corner of an elementary school grounds. My parents own a hockey company, so they'd often buy lots of gatorades, powerades, and bottled waters to give to players at tournaments and camps. We didn't have an attached garage at this house, so whenever they return from the store to get their surplus of gatorade, they'd drive the truck over the curb, onto the lawn with the bed of the truck facing the front entryway. This lead to several other students who live near me to assume that my family was moving away, and some of them asked me about it. It was only then I told them about the whole 'gatorade' thing that they realised it. It's understandable that they are children and didn't know there may be other reasons as to why a standard pick-up truck is parked right in front of one's door, but I'm baffled how they thought of me moving away when there's clearly no 'for sale' sign present.

When I was in high school, I started my sophomore year at a new school. I had a habit of taking the long way to and from the library during my study hall, because I liked walking around the building. With that, a rumor started going around that I was a ghost that haunted the school, because I was the new girl and no one noticed me sitting in the back in my classes. Also, everyone would see me walking by most the classrooms, and never smiling. Of course, this rumor was debunked as soon as I started talking to people during lunch and sat in the front of my classes.

I was known as the fat kid for years and everything thought I was joking when I said I lost weight. I was in the changing room and they saw, I was actually thin. No more whale jokes guys

In high school there were rumours that I had slept with at least a few people out of the 300-ish students in my grade. I don't know why they made something like that up, I was the introverted quiet kid who barely spoke up to anyone and sat/ate alone at lunch, and I wasn't in a relationship not that anyone I liked actually gave me the time of day for me to be in one anyways. People hardly even knew my name in that school aside from the classes in which I was the teacher's pet, but a few weeks into sophomore year I had a small handful of rumours circulating that I was banging about a half a dozen different people, I don't even know where they got the idea for that from. And I couldn't deny the rumours as I had no idea who started them or how I could possibly get others to believe there's no way the people who made up the rumours were right. If you were wondering, I hadn't actually lost my virginity until a couple months before my 21st birthday when I was in a committed relationship, nearly 5 years after I left high school. That was about a few decades ago, and I still can't wrap my head around it.

Girls only liked me because I was a drug dealer. 1999 I was a teen in high school with a motorcycle and a cellphone, in a metal cover band. People put the motorcycle and cell together at the time and it did kind of seem like I might sell drugs. The second was that I was a clone of my cousin, who'd apparently gone to that school years prior and who I apparently look similar to, but who I hadn't met until three years after the incident.

I got bit by a dog. My nose was stiched up by a plastic surgeon and put the plastic surgeon nose job bandage on me. For 2 days at school the rumor was that i got a nose job and was lying about the dog bite. According to my elementary school bullies: My dad was in prison for killing a man. He was a pimp and the other guy was a costumer who did not pay. There were some other guys also killed in the similar fashion who were messing with his prostitutes, but a police did not have enough evidence. She would spend all her money on drinks and gambling so me and my brother would go hungry even though she overate even more. The good thing is that they stopped believing the first rumour once the alien rumour started. I have decided to tell one of my teachers the first rumour. It ended up with them doing an investigation into it and finding out there was also a third rumour. I was a witch. Every night I flew on the brum with other witches and conspired with them. That is why I was so tired every morning. We were cursing kids to get pimples and then used the puss for nefarious purposes. If the kid had a pimple problem I was to blame... So I was an alien, a witch and a prostitute. All of this was way over the top, but for some reason the kids were falling for it.

In reality, most of my shipmates knew that this rumor was probably just a Chamorro jokester messing with the weird white dude who was working deck. Probably. Especially since the same guy also tried to convince everyone I was gay, that I wear women's clothing in my stateroom, and who knows what else... in between, he would try to make it seem like he was my best friend. And a year later, I was on a different ship, and a _friend_ of his worked on that ship, they ran into each other in Sasebo, and he gave his friend _marching orders,_ starting all the same harassment by through a minion! The fact that nobody really believed it... well, when it gets that bad, it doesn't really matter that much.
