What's the best water based gloss paint - Crown Fast Flow Gloss?

What's the best water based gloss paint, have you tried Crown Trade Fast Flow Gloss and the Crown Trade Fast Flow Undercoat.
Let try it out in a colour on Doris the door. A light sand, dust off then I apply One Under Coat and follow it with the two gloss coat paint system.
What is the best water based gloss paint? One that is quick drying but gives you a gloss finish like you expect to see with an oil based gloss paint?

the crown is a hybrid alkyd resin says in the data sheet you would have to make do with one coat of gloss other wise you would lose a lot work

Brushes wash out fine. Do you lose work for putting two top coats on?

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator really phil you never lost work when yourve to put priced three coats on facias sofits etc a job where you 10-20 sashes with three coats etc and these hybrids i find you need to leave them as long oil anyway a lot of the time

@@jackwardley3626 thankfully we don't work for people penny pitching. The spec is the spec. If they say someone is cheaper ... But is it the same spec? If it needs two top coats it gets two top coats.

Does anyone know what the best acrylic water based gloss is? I’ve been using a Leyland Acrylic primer/undercoat and fast dry acrylic gloss but, I wondered what is better.

Showing my age now Phil but I remember many years ago a Leyland Rep trying to get me onto the w/b. It was a product called Acrylux, I distinctly remember him telling me due to the nature of acrylic paints they'll suck back into the u/c and so to "build up" the level of sheen with as many coats as you can manage. W/b has come a very long way since then but wherever possible I try to do at least 3 x top coats if I'm working with the gloss.

Yes. AllCoat Exterior and Bedec MSP... Even Frenchic. Make sure it's clean and a light sand before you start. ;)

It is hybrid, after a days glossing you do need a bit of clean spirit but it's no brush killer.

I'm liking the fastflow satin... It is a hybrid, the purple oil is on the surface every morning. I did nearly lose a brush, now I just keep it bagged up (I know, i know!) Got told the other day about a really good brush cleaner...but I washed the receipt it was written on 😂. There must be a good way of cleaning the brush, as supadec is another killer, but great paint!

I’ve been using it for years lovely paint never had a problem cleaning brushes after ever that said the only thing I’ve glossed in the last five years is a front door but I think the satin is great paint

Have any of these paints been used on a normal flat door if so what was finish like,

Actually that paint was on flat doors on the original job it was bought for... It was the toilet doors at a factory. One yellow, one a cerise and one a light blue. All brough to a two gloss finish from.bare wood (that plug face wood) Results were the same... Still needed that extra coat of gloss ... Also they were brushes and not rolled.

Doris must weigh a ton by now. Crown WB products are good, their gloss is one of the better ones. Charcoal WB primer covers an absolute multitude.

Thanks for taking the time to do this review Phil. Like you, I'm not a massive fan of water based glosses, but the best I've found so far is Teknos Futura Aqua 90 - actually has a decent sheen level! Have you tried that one yet?

Hi Phil, just watched a video on KZfaq, a painter who uses water based paints but doesn't rate their durability. I'm at the point where I'm going to use the Bedec satin MSP for stairs handrail, spindles and skirting boards. How durable is it. I'm panicking slightly now as I've never used it before. Any advice and your thoughts please.

Hi Dave? Who was that?? So many water based paints are interior exterior now.... How much durability does one want lol How many times do you go to an outside and the woodwork is peeling and flaking... And you know it's been done in oil! Water based exterior paints can be more flexible than oil. Have you watched my Bedec MSP scratch test in uPVC?

Hi Dave used loads of M.S.P Satin on exteriors.I think it's about the best you can get.Trouble is It doesn't quite cover in 2 coats so you might want to give 3 coats

Benjamin Moore Advance Gloss has a very decent sheen level but who these days wants gloss?

I agree can’t stand the finish always steer customers away from it and I’ve just recently brought a new house and some bastards glossed everything now I’ve got to move in and re- paint the lot all over again

Hi, I've used fastflow Gloss, Satin and Eggshell. Gloss is good and seems to improve after a few weeks curing. Satin does yellow and look aged after one year plus. Eggshell is nice to use and two coats covers well over any quality undercoat, gives a nice flat eggshell finish.

Use both crown and johnnos regularly ..I think Johnnos just had the edge with gloss level.

Hi phill. I've been using isomat satin this week is very similar to aqua guard if not the same . Very white I must say. I don't trust the primier as I grip primier I must say. In some places it failed the scratch test a day after being painted all sanded and prep properly. Nothing touches halfprimier unbelievable stuff. So far bedec is my favourite one.

for ease of application... two coats (most of the time) ScuffX for a nother qulaity finish with one Uc and two top coats.. Interior or Exterior look at Isomat

Best water based gloss giving best high gloss finish, Brewers “”Albany”” not hybrid, only downside it starts to run easily hard to keep in check, you think you have stopped them leave for some time and they appear from nowhere. If anyone knows a technique to stop it running please let me know….Phill are you sanding down between coats….great vids, thanks.p

Use the fast flow all the time. I find it a lot better than the quick dry Dulux.

Used Crown FF gloss last week on a door frame. Truly awful stuff. I won't be using it again. Put the second coat on late Friday last thing so let's see what it looks like when I go in tomorrow morning. Half expecting to have to apply a third coat!

hi.... you used their undercoat, then a 1st gloss coat. the 2nd gloss coat will be fine today. The two top coats over the uc is something I cover in future videos :)

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Seeing as you asked Phil...It went over WB eggshell i.e. no UC. Second coat definitely better but still you can see flashing from underneath. Needs a 3rd coat really. Have also used same product in a dark tint on attached door. Better but still pulls off on small detail trim. You have to work quick with it then leave it alone. OK if you flood large flat panels and lay it off. Good sheen though tbh.

Always best to use the matching fast flow UC. There seems to be something in the matching UC/primers that aid the finish top coats looking their best.

If your professional you should never use any waterbased gloss. It's all rubbish and belongs in room 101. Having said that most homeowners wouldn't know any difference whatever you use.
