In today’s episode, Becket chats with Alisa Childers about her new book, "Live Your Truth and Other Lies." They discuss the current lies of the culture, such as, “Live Your Truth,” “Love is Love,” “Follow Your Heart,” “Be True to Yourself,” “Live Authentically,” “#YOLO,” “Judge Not,” “You’re in Charge,” “Girl Power,” and “You Are Enough.” Alisa exposes the underlying lies beneath all of these postmodern expressions. We take a look at the biblical truth behind all of the nonsense and confusion. This is a must watch!

ABOUT BECKET:
Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas. After graduating from Austin College in Texas, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.
Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man. He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service. After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.
Becket’s book, A Change of Affection: A Gay Man’s Incredible Story of Redemption, with a
foreword by Francis Chan, published by Thomas Nelson, released July 30, 2019.

When I was in the goddess women lifestyle that Glennon Doyle book was our favorite book for a long time. Scary how we absolutely thought she had come to the real truth. And it was immediately our goal to show these “truths” to other women so they could also “awaken to truth”. Thank you Lord for getting me out of this path of destruction.🙏❤️

Bam! I realized in this interview two big problems in our churches currently: 1. People get in the mindset of believing love = affirming someone, even if that person is living in sin (usually cloaked in saying that Jesus loves everyone) and 2. No confession of sin to one another...replaced with blaming your spouse, other Christians and church leaders, etc. “Being real” has turned into an emotional bellyaching over our miserable circumstances. Thanks...this was a big help!

Joy exists despite our current emotions; happiness is dependent on our current emotions. Someone asked me the other day who I would like to share a meal with if I could. I said, "Corrie ten Boom's sister." She prayed for her Nazi captors. She had a focus on eternity. She had joy.♥️🇨🇦

I needed help on what living your truth means , especially with young adult children and discussions we have . I usually tend to lean that discussion towards feelings , ( we have a lineage of abuse and dysfunction where feelings weren’t allowed ) but now I see it on a deeper level . We have to be careful , living our truth is ego centered and we become our own gods . We are flawed and our truth is flawed . Gods truth stands firm and is unwavering. I need to get back in my Bible . I really enjoyed this video .

Wow…. I can so relate with “venom” against men! Like Alisa, I grew up in a Christian home and didn’t have any issues. I think the culture placed men in a negative light (think Lifetime Channel) and I added fuel to the fire by being an Ob/Gyn nurse and hearing the “men are pigs” stories without having the benefit of hearing the men’s perspective. I don’t think I had ever really pondered that…thank you, Alisa and Becket!

I studied philosophy with Eli Noujain, an Armenian Frenchman who studied at the Sorbonne with Foucault. Eli shared this, and it always stuck with me. He said that Michel thought it important to protest, and yet he felt that the end result of any action taken on, to improve the lot of whichever class of people or situation, would often and only result in creating less freedom and more control. Apparently this was a conundrum for Mr Foucault which he was unable to resolve, although he was able to clearly lay out the dynamics of this in what he called the "liberal intention"

Post modernism and existentialism really tormented me in HS bc everything is subjective. Like it literally caused depression and I could see how someone would be inclined to suicide ideation if they immerse themselves in these doctrines. It definitely pushed me towards hard science and becoming a very concrete operational thinker which wasn't great either, also pretty depressing. I thank God for the Truth. John 14:6. Jesus truly gave me not only life, but also balance and peace ❤

Yes, Becket, it’s Richard Wurmbrand. I also read his book “Tortured for Christ”. It’s a wonderful book, though horrific in many ways, it’s also Glorious and inspiring. 🥰 I love Alissa and I definitely want to read her new book! I love her show. Alissa, a message to you: even though you didn’t experience Jesus in such a life changing way as Becket and others did (I also did), remember Jesus’s words “blessed are those who believe without seeing”. I profoundly admire those who believe in Jesus without having a powerful and direct experience with Him... I don’t know if I would ever come to Christianity without that, Glory to God. But Alissa, know that your faith is really True and you will be amazed at our Wonderful God one day. 🙏🏻 Actually, we all will be, because even though people like me and Becket had direct experience, we don’t fully know God’s Glory. It’s impossible with our current bodies. 😊💖 Becket, I have read your book (e-book version) and loved it. I’m a fan of your show. Thanks for all you do! God bless you brother and sister! 🙏🏻

@@hopecrolius1694 hello 🙂 Thanks for the question. Unfortunately I don’t really have any tips on how... As far as I know, I didn’t do anything to have the experiences. One thing that maybe you could do is to pray, asking God from the heart that you may experience His presence personally. But if you pray for this, don’t hold into the prayer waiting for God to fullfill your request... God often doesn’t do what we ask Him, unless there’s a real Purpose in His perfect Wisdom. I learned to trust Him in this. 🙂 So, trusting God’s Wisdom is the most important thing, even when we don’t understand the full Picture. This is what Faith is also about, not just believing in the existence of God. My best tip is that you pray and talk to God everyday personally, in your most intimate way, no matter the circumstances. 💖🙏🏻 May God bless you lots!

This was such a wonderful interview! I've always been impressed and relieved listening to Alica Childers because she seriously thinks things through. There seems to be such an unwillingness to do that these days. And Beckett, your interview of her by going through the chapter headings of her newest book and asking a key question is like a great book review all in one! Needless to say it's on my "wish list" now (Live Your Truth and other lies) and I just got a late birthday check! Woot! It's even read BY Alica Childers. I love it when the author reads their own book (I do audio almost everything, including reading) because then you get the tone and the emphasis that the author actually means! I can't wait. Thank you both for talking about all these issues.

Doing a fresh comment (meaning a second one) here by me because I wanted to say something specifically about the feminism and "hating" men thing. I was a feminist before I knew the word - literally - at 3 years old. My big brothers had made a tree fort and they said I couldn't come up because it was just for boys. Well, I just KNEW that was wrong! I was furious. My dad had to peel me off the tree because I was actually so mad I had made it a few feet off the ground. Much higher, for a 3 year old and I would have hurt bad had I fallen. But later, much later, I began realizing that myself and my women friends who felt this way and put our men down said things later like "I married a man, but now I'm just raising a boy". Well, when a strong headed woman just TAKES OVER and belittles anything her man does, after a while, he regresses! He's got nowhere else to go! If we don't encourage men to BE men, to step up to the plate, and appreciate them for doing so, that's what we create! Not every man, but most of the kind, unassuming types. What a mess we made. Saved now. Totally not a feminist. Completely fight for the Truth that only men should be preaching from a pulpit. That men should do "men" things, and women can relax a bit and enjoy what men can do! Common sense goes a long way. Not all the way, but definitely a long way.

@@jacobus57 I have no self loathing here: I was talking about loathing men. Unjustly, I might add. And there is no therapy that can help you through the profound pride you suffer. However, there is help! Repent and believe! And if you've already done that, read Paul on who should preach then repent to God for your rebellion against His Word.

Alisa, Ive been a Christian since I was a child but the Lord allowed me to go through infertility in my adult lire. I had one girl and was told that" only children" are strange. They will always be odd because they were not properly socialized( by a loving relative that was not trying to hurt me). So I felt such a burden to produce another child...which to my best efforts, I couldn't. I kept believing that "I" had to make this happen! I carried that burden for years. It was a constant burden. I felt sick inside all the time. Literally. Then one day while making my bed I felt like the LORD speak to me in my heart and said " You don't have to worry about this anymore. It is not your problem. It's MINE. The burden just lifted like a huge weight! I was free! The LORD was responsible for my daughter. My job was to raise her and teach her right from wrong and teach her truth. The LORD would take care of the rest. So I walked in that. Surprisingly, several years later I was told by a nutritionist that my problems of conceiving could be based on my thyroid disfunction, I started taking thyroid medication. A year and a half later or so I conceived (by accident!) a baby girl. Fast forward: She just graduated from college! The gift was the peace I felt when I was able to turn it over to God who does all things well! The cherry on top was I had another baby girl! A true gift from God that He heard my pleas and cared about me in my situation! Any problems I have now He is able to handle as well! I can trust Him. The lies satan tells I have to recognize as lies by going to my Bible as the plumb line! God has not abandoned us! He is still on HIs throne! Hallelujah! As an aside....my oldest daughter is NOT odd! Im sure she would not have been if we were not able to have another child. God is faithful to work in our lives and our children's lives. Christian, be encouraged...your story is not over. Mine is not either! God is weaving a tapestry that will be absolutely beautiful and He will get the glory in the end!

Becket, great ministry. One of my favorite. I live in Canada and have a strong understanding of Christian apologetics, studying works such as Bill Craig. One question I have for you is where i live, a lot of people with same sex attraction are on a hard drive to get everyone to agree with the LGBTQ worldview. They will call out on social media, politicians who are not supportive of LGBTQ attempting to almost bully them into making supportive statements. My response to that has been that this is intolerant. But my question for you is can you help me understand why there seems to be this emotional need for everyone to agree with whatever they say? Thanks

Believing there is no absolute truth allows one to be their own God. Whatever is good for you, do it. Such a horrific way to exist. Confusing. It's the bedrock of the alphabet community. THE truth is the only way.

Allie Beth Stuckey has a book called You're NOT Enough and Tht's OK. Elizabeth Elliott is amazing. Read her book! I wanted to do what she does for so long but didn't til I read her book last year! Still gotta work on sharing the Gospel during that time tho. We take The Word for granted! We SHOULD memorize the Word! Susan Heck has memorized the ENTIRE NT. Many people have. I caught myself singing a song today and instantly thought... I NEED to memorize the Bible that way!

I just heard her name dropped by someone else, twice, and I couldn't tell if it was Lisa or Alisa Childers and then, just almost predictably, this shows up the next day or so, during this most recent Becket videos binge. 😃 EDIT: It was a guest on Melissa Doughtery's channel... it was Clay Jones who mentioned her twice, giving her credit and promoting her work/channel.

Wow, "living your truth" is divisive. I never thought of it like that, but it is true.

There needs to be more of a serious commitment from clergy when preaching. Years ago, a young Episcopal priest stated at the pulpit that he was not our shepherd. I was stunned. So many have adopted "modern" precepts that offer no guidance; no references to The Word. Once again, thank you for your wonderful channel.
