I share 2 big tips that helped me as I did a clean fast to lose weight. Along with weight loss so many other benefits are happening in my body due to intermittent Fasting. I feel good! Less inflammation, weight loss, sleeping better, better digestion to name a few. But I also learned a big mistake that I want others to know!

In Jan 2023 I stumbled across your videos about IF. my doctor had just informed me that I had full blown osteoporosis in my spine, hips and wrist. WOW! I was shocked to say the least but it was the kick in the pants that I needed to do something about my weight. I figured any amount of weight that I could loose would be better on my bones. I had never heard of IF, and knew nothing about it until your videos. So after a few weeks of research - reading, and watching many videos, I started IF at the end of Jan. It is now the end of Nov and I am down 47 pounds! I feel fantastic, I love the way IF makes me feel! I love that I eat regular food- no special foods to buy, no shakes or protein bars - no measuring or weighting of food, no checking into meetings- I am only accountable to myself! I LOVE IT! The advise that I would give to others if interesting in starting is : do self research- learn how fasting works and why it works. I am a nurse and didn’t know about how insulin spikes affect your metabolism and how you store and burn fat. Second, be patient and stick with it! It may not be a fast weight loss, but it will be a safe weight loss. If you are someone who seeks instant gratification, this may not be the plan for you, but if you want safe weight loss, stick with it! I have experienced plateaus but stuck with it and didn’t get discouraged and worked thru it and started loosing pounds again. Just keep it up! I don’t desire to loose any more weight but I am still fasting and plan to keep it up because it’s easy and I love the way it makes me feel. Thank you Sandy for introducing me to IF! It has been a great journey so far. Good luck to all! Merry Christmas!

I've been doing 16/8 since February this year. It was slow on the weight loss for me, but from 134, now I'm 122. I started, 11 to 7 p.m. for my eating window, but I did switch it up here and there. Now I'm 10 to 6 p.m. with the time change, it works better for me and my outside rescue fur babies. Another great video, Sandy. Thank you.

Wow, this really hit home. I’ve been doing IF and usually 17/7 or 18/6. Now hearing you, I will try breaking my fast between 8 & 9 just to shake things up a day or 2 a week. I’ve been at this over a year, lost some weight initially, but mostly I just feel so good with this lifestyle. I also allow myself indulgences when out and realize that it is a lifestyle, not a diet. So I feel some flexibility is really key. Looking forward to trying an earlier meal a couple of days and see if the weight loss resumes. Thanks for a very helpful video. Love your honest content.

Don't get discouraged if you dont see a change right off, it took me a minute and then I lost 3 more pounds. I feel good in my clothes and like to maintain where I am. So keeping things switched up seems to be key.

The Obesity Code (book) and the books by Gin Stephens are amazing and game changers. I do 16:8, but try to do 18:6 and I usually quit after lunch, by 1 my meals are done, because I do like my coffee with creamer in the AM. The clean fast is literally the ONLY way to go. It is key to anyone's success. This video was very informative. Thank you! I recently purchased a rebounder as well, so I am going to incorporate that, as a woman over 50 (ugh that is hard to say).

I love my rebounder! I have started using a jump rope while jumping to get that cardio in more, but protecting my joints. I agree that the clean fast is the only way to go! Then we don't have to keep asking, "I wonder if it is ok to have (whatever) during my fast." the answer is nothing but plain water, black coffee and plain green or black tea. Keeping it simple is best for me.

How about changing it up even a little more, Cindy. Instead of only changing the 16:8 hours....a few times a week change the length. Do a shorter fast one day like 12 or 14 hours, or maybe an even longer fast than 16 hours every once in a while. That way your metabolism gets mixed up and will kick in again.

I started IF in mid-July. I'm late 60s and the first month I lost 8 lbs the first month and 20+ lbs overall. From the start I varied my fasts daily- 13-18 hours daily. I've had a tricky stomach since a child and my stomach is amazingly better. Yes I wobbled since Halloween in cheating with sugar but I'm back on track now. I have arthritis in a knee I had surgery on in the 70s and I cannot believe how much better my knee is. And my skin glows and people have commented on it. It's a lifestyle not a diet!

When I started I went lower carb but definitely not keto which makes me feel awful! I have a piece of Ezekiel toast with my breakfast or brunch as it usually is. I eat between 50-60 grams of carbs a day which helps with cravings. I walk or ride my recumbent bike 3-4 times a week for 20-30 minutes. And I drink LOTS of water. I eat narures carbs like beans and salads but I don't usually eat potatoes, rice or pasta because I lost my taste for them. Friday night is Family Pizza night and I eat 2 slices but no more the rest of the weekend. I hope this helps! Best of luck!

@@yvonnesmith2578 I've lost weight before and yes my knee would feel better. But I honestly think the IF reduces the inflammation and just makes it so much better. For me, IF has been amazing in helping with my general body composition, I guess you could say…weight loss,of course,but it has improved my kidney function tests which was a wonderful surprise…my times for fasting jump around every day based on my schedule…never less than 16 hours, but usually more….I may start to eat at 1 and stop at 7 or start at 2 and stop at 9…it varies pretty much daily based also on how I feel and how hungry I am…no problem doing it this way…it’s been about a year…I could not…and would not…ever subscribe to a way of eating that had me worried about what my meals were composed of…just eating a reasonably healthy diet and taking supplements is easy and, apparently, effective for me.

I’ve been doing IF for 2 years. I started 16/8 then did 18/6 & now do 20/4. I’m post menopausal. I’ve lost 30lbs & feel great. I really have a hard time mixing it up. I have periodically done a 24 hour fast(maybe once a week), but I’m scared to eat “normally”. It’s a mental thing that makes me feel like I’m cheating. I’ve gained 3lbs and can’t seem to lose it. I know I should mix it up but am afraid I will gain weight. Anyone else have this issue?
@sandysteinbrook
@sandysteinbrook 7 ай бұрын
I am sure you arent the only one that feels this way. What do you meanly eating normally? Do you follow a certain plan, like keto? Does it make you feel good? I think we each have to do what makes us feel good. But dont be afraid of a balanced way of eating. Having all food groups is a simple way to live.

I along with many more "mature" women, am struggling to lose stubborn fat~~~Do you think the IF works because of less insulin spikes, or less calories in? For instance, if a fasting period of 16:8 is used, could one eat breakfast at noon, then lunch at 3 and dinner at 6? would weight loss not occur because calories/day was no different if one was eating more throughout the day?? Thanks so much!!!
@wannaduckfin
@wannaduckfin 7 ай бұрын
I have successfully brought down my insulin through intermittent fasting. I was at a level of nine and then last month tested at 4.2 which is in the excellent range. My point though is that the more frequently you eat the more often you spike in your insulin. I personally keep my window about at five or less hours. And I believe that has really helped me bring my insulin down. I was pre-diabetic at one point. Also, I've eaten lowish carb. Not keto but lowest carb. I hope that helps.
@wannaduckfin
@wannaduckfin 7 ай бұрын
* I should have said not keto, but lowish carb
@sandysteinbrook
@sandysteinbrook 7 ай бұрын
I do believe that it is both. There is less of a chance for insulin spikes because there is a longer time of food not entering the body. But, I also think it could be because of less calories too, depending on how much someone eats. For example, if a person eats at 12, 3 and 6, then at 3, you wouldn't be hungry enough to eat a meal, it would be more of a snack. Once I started really eating the balanced plate method this became easier. I have shared quite a few "What I Eat in a Day" videos, if that is helpful. I do stay very active so I may eat more than the typical person. Was this helpful??

I do not agree with everything you say, but one thing in particular. And that's using mouthwash. That's going to harm so many people you can't imagine. Remains of ancient people showed that they did not have dental carries or tooth decay. It was for one reason and one reason only. There were no mouthwash available in those times. Since you're not a doctor, I don't expect you to know everything, but when you talk to audiences who for some reason want to follow your non-professional advice, you need to research. A lot. Go look on KZfaq why mouthwash is bad. Come back and regret your advice publically. If you want to do the right thing, that is. Otherwise, people like you with no medical training just up and post videos on health topics like they know what's what. Being a doctor, it just makes me mad and laugh at the same time. But hey. What can I do? There is no regulation for people like you. Thus people who follow quacks like you suffer. Oh well.
