Very good advice, I applied for my FAC 5 years ago and didn't go co-terminus because I thought I would be pushing my luck as I'd asked for 5 different calibres on my ticket. I now realise that's not the case at all, if you're approved for an FAC you're automatically approved for a SGC. I added co-terminus at my renewal last month, a no brainer for a couple of quid. Added a section one for PSG at the same time. I'm lucky though, the firearms officer I deal with is brilliant and really understands the sport. A rare thing under the current climate.

Never knew this certificate existed - having been a member of a rifle club for a couple of years I'll bear this in mind when applying in the near future!

I went coterminous with wiltshire 2 months before lockdown start to finish took 3 months excellent service both now and then i regret not putting on more slots on always ask for as much ammunition as possible different FEOs will allow different amounts

I've been looking at firearm laws internationally and we seem to be a bit of an outlier with regards to having a separate S.G.C. Canada seems to be a good model, you apply for a Purchase and Acquisition Licence (PAL) and vary that for different classes of firearm. The licence is also indefinite with constant mostly automated monitoring of the holder. A much better and probably cheaper system than we have.

It's all a bit crazy that they are two completely seperate pieces of paper / certificates. It's about time they combined them and had the relevent section 1 and 2 parts etc.

Great video, I don't think you missed anything out. I agree with you 100% about the Co-Terminus certificates. It does seem silly that an FAC holder, cannot shoot a Shotgun un-supervised or borrow etc but they can own a firearm (that they have an open slot for). Surely an FAC should supersede the minimum requirement to own a shotgun (which is a SGC). The law should be SGC - You can own a S2 Shotgun/ borrow/ buy ammunition etc FAC - Same as SGC plus own Fireams you have been cleared for Why do you need two certificates? It's a waste of paper having two If you are apply for your FAC for target, vermin or hunting etc. Spend the extra £2 and get a Co-terminus because you can have the SGC and shoot clays when you want, borrow a mates gun and go shooting for up to 72 hours.

Ive had all the police checks and gun club checks back which are ok, do these checks help with the application of a sgc and fac application.

Good video but you did miss the biggest advantage of NOT going co-terminus and that is not being without any kind of certificate WHEN the FLD takes an age to renew it. If both go in at the same time you won't be able to buy any ammo at all. IF you manage to get a Section 7 Permit issued to retain the guns after the expiry of the certificate (+8 weeks) if you have a FLD like Lincolnshire who claim S7s are only valid within the County its issued for you wouldn't be able to shoot out of the county. Worse, if you don't get a S7 Permit issued you will have to pay for all of your guns to go into storage at the same time rather just your firearms or just your shotguns. Now that the medical certificate has become mandatory it does swing things a little for me towards co-terminus but for the above alone i've kept my separate for 3 renewal cycles. I've just had my FAC renewed (no medical required) so have another 5 years before i have to decide to change or not.

I am thinking of applying for a license, one question is do you have any speeding convictions which I have in the past but I cannot remember the dates, how do you find these dates if required ?

Out of curiosity could a firearm be denied based on where you live like if you live in the city of London they could say you do not need a firearm like that but if you live in the countryside they'll give you that caliber and firearm you were asking for

The fact that a FAC doesn't cover Section 2 weapons is a little weird, tbh. I guess it's just a quirk of the system.

I am new shooter and got my safe just before covid and was going to start with shotgun but did want to try practical 3gun and dear and boar with rifle shooting in the future basically I want to try it all. What would I need to know what would you suggest
