I've seriously thought that many Death Eaters never wanted Voldemort to return. He'd gotten so many Death Eaters killed. He tortured his followers when things didn't go right. He did not deliver on his promises. He just brought death and ruin. His followers hoped he'd never return. Some crazys like Bellatrix LeStange wanted him back but I think many hoped he'd never return.

I thought Lucius’ troubles started when Voldemort discovered he’d gotten the Diary destroyed. I thought that was the beginning of his failures. I mean all of Voldemort’s Death Eaters were captured by Albus Dumbledore. The only reason Bellatrix evaded capture was because Voldemort himself had to free her from the stone witch and escape. Wasn’t Dumbledore the one who said, “Lucius is probably glad to be safe and in Azkaban right now.” After Voldemort discovered his biggest failure. Getting his first Horcrux destroyed. Isn’t that about the same time Voldemort decided to make Draco a 16 year old death eater. With the impossible task of killing Albus Dumbledore. Everything went south from there.

Lucius was so mysterious as we watched HP through all those years. But towards the end, I felt so bad for Lucius. He looked sicker than a dog. Was more pale than a ghost. Looked stressed out. The man looked unreasonably unhealthy. But I can’t blame him. Lord Voldemort was bleeding the Malfoys dry. The Malfoys weren’t our favorite characters, but I felt so bad for Draco’s mother and father. Seeing them like that was terrible. I felt pain for them. But the last time, that last of Lucius running to his family, I couldn’t help but feel so relived for him as he ran across the bridge. I was very glad that Lucius made it out alive. He represents such a “mysterious” appearance.

Lucius chose that life, and in turn, cursed his son to follow in his footsteps. With that said, I pity him as well, not because I want better for him like his son, but because he's been beaten down so much that it's impossible to hate such a pathetic person.

@@kjdee140 I agree. I actually enjoyed Draco as a character. He wasn’t the nicest person either. As the years went on, Draco was super stressed out cause of the sins of his father. I’m just glad that Malfoys made it out alive. Lucius was a nasty dude! But he loved his son, his only child. Seeing him run off with his family was a breath of fresh air. Narcissa just wanted her sun unscathed.

I think you are giving Lucius more credit than he deserves! The best cinematographic meaningful shot I have ever seen in a movie is how Draco and Narcissisa walk away from the battle, but Lucius RUNS away from the battle! Two very different meanings perfectly depicted in that 10 second shot!

I just can’t stand how separated the Malfoy family is depicted in the movies. In the books they always stay together and Lucius and Narcissa don’t give a shit about the risk of dying, they only care to find their son and to be together. Which happens in the end.

What fascinates me about Lucius Malfoy is the complete deconstruction of his character as the story progresses. You could call it the emasculation of a villain. Throughout the first five books, Lucius was the overarching secondary antagonist of the entire series. Apart from Voldemort himself, there was no greater or more persistent threat to Harry and his friends, or to Hogwarts itself, than Lucius Malfoy. He was always manipulating events from behind the scenes, stirring up trouble wherever he went. When his name popped up, the humor died down. He had a very menacing presence about him. All of that changed at the end of the fifth book. Following the defeat of the Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries, he went to Azkaban and lost whatever power he once had. He only spent around six months behind bars, but by the time he got out, he was a shell of the man he once was. He went from being the second-in-command of the Death Eaters to a complete joke, only marginally more respectable than Wormtail. It was almost as if he was never that big of a threat in the first place.

I think that’s who he always was but he just brilliantly preserved this illusion of chivalry. The guy who you see in the last film is the real Lucius Malfoy - timid, weak, broken and completely enslaved by the dark Lord. No core, no backbone, a glorified pauper and useful idiot. With Snape, his path through the series goes the other way…we see glimpses of his deeply buried humanity at the beginning which culminates in the revealing of something so beautiful that has been tragically wasted due to his own inner torment….

I doubt Lucius was second in command. Bellatrix was Voldemort's right hand, but after Azkaban she was rather unfit to lead, unlike Lucius. You also forget that Voldemort was extremely pissed because Lucius carelessly wasted the horcrux he left in his care. Getting the prophecy may could have make amends for that, but failing after such delicate planning along with the loss of the diary sealed his fate and even winning the war would have resulted a bitter fate for the Malfoys.

Voldemort wanted him to use it to kill all the Muggle borns in the school but since Lucius thought Voldemort was dead at the time he put the diary in Ginny's cauldron so she'd get blamed for the attacks then Arthur's Muggle Protection Act would get scrapped, Dumbledore would be sacked as Headmaster for not being able to stop the attacks and Lucius would be able to get rid of the diary since it was a piece of evidence that could out him as a Death Eater.

I get the feeling that this character just became too lazy to really put any muscle behind his beliefs. There's plenty of armchair quarterbacks in the world -- in the US, we call people like this chickenhawks. They talk big, but they never sign up for duty themselves. Lucius might have been more active when he was younger, but after Voldemort disappeared, he just settled in, enjoyed being a rich jerk and bullying people, and was content to simply continue with that. Be spoiled and nasty, and have an impressive reputation. After Voldemort returned though, he suddenly had to put his money where his mouth was and didn't want to. He just grew up to become a chickenhawk. Or this may have been pushed along by having a son -- if his son were born just after the end of the first war, then he could have gotten used to seeing himself as a head of household and taken that as the center of his identity, and gradually he may have found that the views he held when younger were no longer at the exact center of his self-definition.

I think Lucius Malfoy is a quite misunderstood character. This is merely my speculation, but I think he was not Voldemort loyal deatheater by heart like Bellatrix. If we read the books carefully, he was that person who was quite affectionate towards his family. Furthermore, he was more likely and elitist who thinks he and his family above the others. Because of this I imagined him that he would never blacken his family name with crimes. In addition to this, he was quite happy without Voldemort and was not delighted about his return. He also lost the prophecy not because his lack of magical ability but his missing loyalty towards the task and the dark lord. If you ask me I think Voldemort more likely chained him though threatening him with something, maybe his family etc. I think this could be a missing link in Lucius Malfoy's story. What do you think?

He and Arthur (Ron's dad) always had a bad relationship, Lucius was always savage to him, because the Weasleys are poor, and Arthur loved everything, what's related to muggles. And Arthur hated him, because of this behavior, and I think, because he knew, Lucius wasn't forced to be a deatheater (Lucius said after the first war, he was forced by an Imperius curse to do what he did, but clearly, that's not the case). AND a top of that, Lucius hated Dumbledore too, and wanted him to leave the school. He doesn't know about anything of horcruxes, he doesn't know, what was that diary, and Voldemort was really, really pissed of after he returned, and heard about what happened with his horcrux. Also, Tom ELVIS? :"D (Maybe you're not native english? I'm hungarian, our version to this name is Tom Rowle Denem, and I kinda understand the reason... but "Elvis" is made me laughing so hard lol :"DDDDDDD Which language has this translation? :D No offense, I'm just curious tho ^^) So, in the end, no, Lucius doesn't cared about Voldemort, he wanted to get rid of everything, what belonged to the Dark Lord (I'm not sure, which book was that, but I think, this was mentioned in it, but I can be wrong tho...), that's the three big reason, why he put the diary to Ginny's bag. However, I don't think, what Reka Fazekas mentioned about the prophecy, is true, I mean, he doesn't lost it, because he wasn't loyal to Voldemort (so he doesn't lost it on purpose), he wanted to get back Voldemort's trust, and wanted to prove that, he is loyal to him, because he was already afraid, he will be punished, or his family will be punished because he doesn't searched the Dark Lord, when he disappeared. But he failed that, thanks to the Order. In the first war, I think, Lucius WAS a loyal deatheater, in the earlier stage Voldemort wasn't that crazy, and Lucius never lost his trust, but after the Dark Lord has been defeated, Lucius was completely fine with that, and when He returned, Lucius wasn't in the best situation, and started to be afraid from the Dark Lord. And Voldemort completely crushed his spirit in the end.

I think at some point Lucius realised Voldemort didn't care about pureblood dominance and had only acted like he did to get pureblood supremacists like Lucius and Bellatrix on his side. But Bellatrix was completely by Voldemort's lies and probably thought killing every Muggle, Muggleborn and half blood would get Voldemort to love her. Unfortunately Voldemort being the Joker to Bellatrix's Harley Quinn, the Chucky to her Tiffany and so on didn't care and only saw her as a henchgirl.

Loved the video! I liked Draco's line in the Cursed Child where he states that, deep inside, Lucius preferred life without Voldemort. Lucius is a bigot but held those views because he considered himself too good and uppity for muggles, so being part of a murderous cult gone genocidal was probably not how he had expected this experience to turn out. He was too much of a coward to hold his own opinion however and was too weak to be anything but a follower. I think JK Rowling states that Dudley becomes a better person because when he was kissed by the Dementor he was forced to see how truly horrible he was. After seeing Lucius's face post Azkaban, I wonder if the dementors made him realise how extreme Voldemort truly was, how pathetic he himself was and made him realise that his family was his only true happiness. I love the Malfoy videos XD they are my favourites

It seems like, being acclimated to a wealthy lifestyle, he couldn't cope with the conditions of Azkaban. At the time of his capture, the dementors were still somewhat under the Ministry, so having them feed on him could possibly have something to do with his appearance

video suggestion: how exactly does the unbreakable vow work? I mean if the consequence of disregarding it is death then how does that precisely happen? If for example Snape wouldn't have killed Dumbledore straight when Draco failed to do so, would he have died? Or how much time is there for the person to complete the task before it's considered a fail on their behalf of not keeping the vow..?

Not going to lie, when reading Order of the Phoenix for the first time, I did a small cheer when Lucius Malfoy was sent to Azkaban after the battle in the Department of Mysteries. To quote a song from the musical Chicago, "He had it coming," and it was especially satisfying to read Draco Malfoy's fury at this turn of events

There is no such thing as hybrid houses, and it shouldn't be encouraged. Sorting isn't about which traits you possess, it's about your primary instincts and what you're most like. Therefore you simply cannot belong in more than one house, as that would go against the whole principle of sorting. If you disagree with the sorting, make up a different method instead of raping a well functioning one.

The Malfoys leaving Voldemort before the final battle is in the movie only. In the book, the Malfoys advanced as part of Voldemort's army but then went to find Draco. Even Harry knew that that was Narcissa's purpose even as she checked to see if he were dead in the forest. And after the battle, when Hogwartians sat at the house tables all mixed up, the Malfoys were there, too, sitting apart from the others, not really sure if they should be there. Still, it is true that the Malfoys ate major crow as fallen and defeated Voldemort supporters.

Excellent video, but one of the major reasons I felt Lucius was kinda already in the doghouse (so to speak), was that he'd gotten a Horcrux destroyed. OK, sure, we have no evidence he knew what the diary was (other than an important dark artifact Voldemort gave him), but still, he had a hand in the destruction of the first bit of Voldie's soul/back-up. Honestly, I suspect You-Know-Who would have happily demoted him before the failed Ministry raid if he'd had any other sane high-ranking Death Eaters left.

Peter Pettigrew was already dead at time of the battle, he died at Malfoy Manor - "When Pettigrew hesitated, his brief moment of mercy caused his silver hand to turn on him, strangling and killing him, despite Harry and Ron's best efforts to restrain it." Quote from his wiki page

Shouldn't it be Slythenclaw? That way you get more letters coming from Ravenclaw? Also Lucius still had more authority as a Death Eater than Wormtail ever did, which is obvious given the way he treats him in the last book. Making Draco to hold back and have Wormtail go and check on the cell.

Hi!! I just thought (correct me if I'm wrong) that you could do something about how Draco Malfoy doesn't have a pet. Pets permitted are are toads, cats and owls (Scabbers?), and I can't imagine him with a toad, or a cat tbh.... That leaves owl. His mother would be sending him constant care packages, so he probably has an owl, I mean- Draco Malfoy, use a dirty, ratty, school owl? I don't think so. And why use a family owl when you can have your own? Please do something on this, I would really appreciate it (: .
