I'm so glad you included Pieces and Tourist Trap on here - two absolute gems that every slasher fan should see. They're both so weird and over the top, they would make a terrific triple feature with Sleepaway Camp.

Yea but back in the video rental days you could easily be tricked by the title and cover art. It got me when I was like 12 on the prowl for something different. I'd seen all the classics and the new releases that were renowned. So I began scanning unknown titles from the 80s and Chopping Mall sounded cool, a slasher in the mall that's different! The cover art was a disembodied robotic forearm holding a shopping bag with a tear in it and through the tear you could see a scared eye peaking out from an obviously decapitated head. I thought it was going to be very different than it turned out to be lol. Definitely didn't expect defective security robots lasering everyone to death 😆

Great list! There's a lot I've seen, but also a lot I haven't seen yet and even some that I've never heard about, like Bloody Birthday! I'm reading a book about the slasher genre right now, so this video is a great companion😊

@@tattedupluv it's a book in French, it's called "Slashers: Attention, ça va couper" by 4 authors, one of them being Claude Gaillard. I don't know if it's translated though. Yes, Bloody Birthday sounds like a lot of fun!

That was a very good and entertaining list, thanks! I have some of these movies on DVD or Blu-ray, so that's great (I still like physical media where possible). However, there are also several that I have never seen before and would like to check out including When A Stranger Calls, Tourist Trap, The Prowler, Bloody Birthday, Pieces, Slumber Party Massacre, The House on Sorority Row, April Fool's Day, Urban Legend, Valentine, Behind The Mask, Orphan, Hush, The Babysitter, Ready or Not, Freaky, X, Bodies Bodies Bodies, and Terrifier 2 (also the first movie since I've never seen it). No matter how many horror movies I've watched, there's always more to check out!

One of the best and most comprehensive slasher lists, at least with the 80s stuff which I’m most familiar with. Except I’m not huge on Terror Train or The Mutilator, and I like The Burning and Intruder a lot more. this is a great video for people wanting to get into the genre. I appreciate only choosing one per franchise, because a lot of these lists are filled with 5 Friday movies, 6 Scream movies 3 Nightmare movies etc. which almost always clog these lists. What’s your favorite slasher film? Mine is Elm Street for franchise and My Bloody Valentine for standalone. I will either check out You’re Next or April Fool’s Day thanks to this video.

thank you, that's very nice of you to say. I didn't want to fill the list up with multiples from a franchise and tried to make it varied. I hope it's implied that there is the rest of the franchise to check out. As for favourites; there's so many. I do love Scream, Black Christmas, My Bloody Valentine, Sleepaway Camp and I know what you did last summer. To name a few.

Yeah, it seems like the reason why is due some of the people working behind it. She gave it a positive review on her Letterboxd. Which is fair, there’s more than enough other slashers, and The Burning is pretty popular, as when people ask about slashers to watch, most people will recommend The Burning. I mean no one recommends The Clownhouse when recommending underrated 80s horror films. People have different tolerances with separating art from the artist. It’s unfortunate, but it is what it is.

The description says found footage instead of slasher, just to let you know. And I understand why you didn’t include The Burning, but I do wish it was on the list, as it’s one of my favorites. Although I don’t know how I feel about recommending the original Friday the 13th over Friday the 13th part 4, I don’t particularly care for the first 3 Friday the 13th movies, but The Final Chapter is one of my favorite 80s horror films. Part 6 is also pretty fun. I generally recommend only seeing part 4 and 6, just because I feel that a lot of people are sick of the formula by the time part 4 hits. I feel like it’s a better film when you watch it as a stand-alone.

oh, thanks I'll change that. yeah there is a reason I left the burning off the list. And I don't like the OG Friday either but I figured I could include the 1st to represent the whole franchise.

@@whatthehorror that’s completely fair. You’re wording implied the entire series, so that was fine. It’s probably because I’m biased for part 4 and I see the complaint that “it’s just like the first 3 movies” very often, so that’s totally just my opinion. Excellent video

I recently watched the entire Friday the 13th series most of the movies for the very first time and my favourites were 1, 2 and 6 while 4 was one of my least favourites. Maybe you're right about it being better as a stand alone. I'm interested to try it again, but I'm always gonna rewatch the first two as well

Have you seen The Creeper aka Ritual? I haven’t seen it but it’s apparently a solid 70s backwoods slasher. I found a website called Lioncorn that might help you find some hidden gems

Thank you for the patronising tone with your comment. I am aware that Psycho 2 is a sequel but my list starts in the 70s as slashers weren't a thing until then. Psycho is from the 1960s.

Agree to disagree, but Cherry Falls & Strangers: Prey At Night are GARBAGE, lol. Otherwise, great list (though I'm the only person on the planet who hates the original TCM, too, 😅)! Also major props for listing Leslie Vernon! We need more people to get behind that!

😈 Hi my name is Richard, A long time ago I watched a horror movie, all I remember is a truck going past some houses, The film is American and it’s old 70s 80s it has something to do with the bogeyman, very scary film and it’s been driving me crazy for years, do u know this annoying movie or someone else 😈
