This week we're watching a movie that I was surprised Toni had never seen but I had, "When Harry Met Sally". I always enjoyed this movie and Toni seemed to enjoy it as well!

I had a friend that was in a mall riding up the escalator. Meg Ryan was coming down the escalator. He said his mouth dropped open because she had the bluest eyes he had ever seen. She saw his reaction and smiled and chuckled.

"Sleepless In Seattle" is a good one, but seeing the 1957 "An Affair To Remember" first would be cool, since it plays into the plot. Not to mention it's top notch romcom.

The blue button on Sally's lapel was the little metal badge you used to get as your "ticket" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Used to have a little box full of these little "souvenirs". Now they just use stickers.

They are real stories - but not the real couples I'm afraid. They are actors telling the stories. I think I read they did try and use the real people but understandably they weren't comfortable in front of the cameras but Reiner still wanted their stories told.

"I'll have what she's having." Fun Fact: Joe is played by Steven Ford, the son of 38th U.S. President Gerald Ford. Hot Take Fact: The scene where we see all four lead characters talking to each other individually on various telephones took sixty takes to nail. NFL Enthusiast Fact: The footage from the football game was the New York Giants vs Detroit Lions from October 16, 1988. The New York Giants won 30-10. Location Location Fact: The orgasm scene was filmed at Katz's Deli, an actual restaurant on New York's E. Houston Street. The table at which the scene was filmed now has a "Where Harry Met Sally ...Hope You Have What She Had!" plaque. That's Hot Fact: For the infamous fake orgasm scene, the original script called for Harry and Sally to merely talk about women faking an orgasm, until Meg Ryan suggested that Sally actually fake an orgasm at the table. Director Rob Reiner loved the idea and put it into the script. In a November 2, 2004 interview with NPR, writer Nora Ephron credited Meg Ryan not only with the idea of faking an orgasm in the famous restaurant scene, but also with the idea of setting it in a restaurant in the first place.

I love the expressions she makes from 21:10 to 21:12. She looks to her right then turns back. So cute, so blissful, so real. Same with the crinkle nose at the end when she's "looking at him like he was crazy." One of our songs at our wedding was Sinatra's "It Had to Be You" because of that last scene here. [But our "song" is "All I Want Is You" by U2 from the film "Reality Bites" - just an ok movie, but it was our first date]

I think Toni would enjoy shows or films that would fit the description of being "cozy mysteries", which applies to some UK shows from decades past, for instance "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates" (that is merely one example, if that show doesn't appeal there are plenty of others in that genre...or similar types of films/series).

The woman who said "I'll have what she's having" was Rob Reiner's mom. The couples were actors, but they were acting out what real couples had said. They interviewed a bunch of people and then had actual actors do the scenes. Real people would have way more "ums" and "ers" and so on. Which is fine in conversation, but not in a film.

Not really 'comedies' at all for the first and last, and 'maybe' for the second... But all fairly solid romantic/love stories in their own ways. When Harry Met Sally is the high point for this kind of film, post-1950. It's utterly charming, and if offerings from the Hallmark Channel are the best (of this kind of film) you've seen previously, this movie can help you extract yourself from that pit of insipidity and despair. I'd give a pass to Sleepless In Seattle and You've Got Mail, as The Shop Around the Corner is far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far better. The next *great* rom-com after When Harry Met Sally is Bros -- which is even funnier than WHMS, IMHO.

The 4 way phone call scene, was shot in 3 different rooms, split screen added, simultaneously with no edits, because perfect timing was needed, it took 61 takes!😮😮. And yes hes the voice of mike in, Monsters Inc!😮😮😮

I have never cared much for this movie, but I always watch reactions to that one famous scene.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but your "windows" are too large, they hide too much of the movie. BTW, the old people are actors, but the stories are true stories the director collected. Great reactions, though.
