This is hopefully the first video of many as I chart my progress towards becoming a physicist. But more importantly I want this to be about campaigning for Women in STEM and changing government policy about ELQs, and access to retraining and adult learning in the UK, as I feel it is incredibly restrictive in its current form.
Read more about ELQ restrictions here: bit.ly/1MRjkct

Ever since I was a little girl I've wanted to be an astronomer. At secondary school I was put off pursuing it as a career option by the thought of studying maths and physics. But why would that put someone off?
Since I graduated with a degree in Serbian and East European Studies in 2011, I have been trying to figure out how I can ever get the chance to retrain as a physicist.
With £9000 a year fees and very little access to any financial aid, it's not going to be easy. I've come up against many dead ends already.
Well 2016 looks like that might be the year it finally happens, but there are still many barriers to overcome.
I'm pretty sure I can't be the only person fighting to pursue my passions professionally, so let me know if this is you too!

You’re so inspiring!! I’m doing nursing but I miss science soooo much like pure science. I’m planning to save up entirely to afford a second degree in medicinal chemistry. It’ll be really hard and it’s a lot of money but it’s hard to get degrees right first time !

Oh My god. I relate so much to this. I left my Math major because I thought I wasn't good enough and went to Journalism instead, which was great, and now I fell the pull to go back. I'm almost 30 and I want to beat my younger self and tell her that she can and she doesn't have to get the 'perfect' grade. Thank you for this!!! And English is not my mother tongue, so sorry for the mistakes!

@@HannahColemanV Yeah! I'm going back! I was starting this semester (got accepted and everything) but the pandemic broke out so I'll have to wait till February, I was kind of rethinking my desition but your video made realize that I really want to do it and tech needs more women in it. I'm gonna do it and hopefully I'll find a way to encourage women and girls to go for it as well 😉😉 Thank you, you have been a great inspiration 💜💜

@@magalil.esp.2003 That sounds super exciting (minus pandemic). Good luck with it all. It's a great adventure
