I was an Army officer. I was always recognized by my troops because I took the trouble to spend time with them. I ate in the mess hall several times a week with them. I checked on them in their barracks when we were in garrison. I learned as many of their names as I could. I read all of the training reports and followed up with those people who seemed to be having trouble. This is part of your job, Sir. Do it.

This was staged. That said, a wing is approximately 1500 people including Ops (aircrew) maintenance, civil engineers, medical, ops, and a few other support squadrons. Most of them don’t eat in the chow hall. Roughly the equivalent of an Arm division. You must have known a lot of people.
@BlackJack-mj3mn9 ай бұрын
@@santamanone As a company commander in an Armored Regiment, I had a little over 200 under my command. At every level, from squad leader to Army Commander, the “old man” has to identify those key people under his command who, in turn, have the most contact with the people under THEIR command. The “recommended” number is between 3 and 7, depending on the latest opinion of the top brass in the Pentagon. Find those people and meet with them often. Have them tell you what’s going on in their sub- commands. That way, if you have to get involved with someone way down in the organization, you’ll understand the situation before you meet the people involved face-to-face.

lol stfu self-congratulating in a comment section of a fictional comedy short. if you really were an “officer” you were probably some CGO overseeing like 20 ppl anyway so it’s not hard to get recognized. if you really want to take this content seriously, then this is Vice Wing Commander. I have been stationed at bases where he literally oversaw an organization of 10 thousand troops. Out of 10 thousand troops, there is going to be at least 1 human who might not recognize you on sight.

I was in basic training, Air Force, as the door guard. Anyone that came up to the building after hours had a hard requirement to present their ID card, which was to be checked against the "Authority to Enter" list on the board, just inside the door. An E-8 came up, and demanded entrance, late at night. I followed the guidance, and asked to see his ID. That's a big, fat nope from him, and it got ugly fast. I had MANY people in our flight telling me that I better let him in. TREMENDOUS pressure. Nope. I was 17. He stomped off, VERY angry. Livid. The next day, our Training Inspector came up to me, quietly, and said I would probably have been court martialed had I let him in. Everything was quietly dropped.
