I saw him live in a piece written by him with full orchestra the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, it was transformative! Also had the whole audience singing along. A unique artist indeed!

​@@jaredlancaster4137they are most likely referring to the aggressive hammer ons and offs. on cello it's actually a bit harder due to the string thickness and lack of frets. but its fun, trust me :)

@@caerulemusic yeah the left hand tapping and left hand picking is quite difficult on a cello. But that's not normal guitar playing either, so I'm kinda confused.

most of it weren´t actual left hand pizz but rahter just slamming your fingers on the finger board as hard as you can to procuc a sound. It´s slightly easier then the left hand pizz but impressive nonetheless

I saw this guy live in Liverpool,UK with my dad, I didn't know what to expect, but it was so different and so immersive that he had the whole crowd in awe. He makes really inventive, narrative-like pieces. I really love the African influence infused with bluesy sounding classical!

Abel Selaocoe is absolutely amazing, I saw him live with a bass player and percussionist and it was one of the most professional performances or anything I’ve ever seen, he’s an incredible musician.

This unironically is my kind of music! Strange time signatures, African rhythms and textures, throat stinging and some konnakol (I think?) thrown in for good measure, all played on the cello! I'm heading over to his KZfaq channel now.

What I think is the most beautiful part about this piece is the fact that the cello is the only instrument whose range is the same as the human voice. This is a beautiful marriage of the abilities of the voice and instrument ❤

I don't think I would've been able to guess that it was a cello being played if I only heard the audio. I would probably have guessed that there were several musicians playing different instruments. It's incredible that this guy can make such a full and fun sound on his own!

What I find impressive is that he's making the pizzicato notes by tapping. It sounds as crisp as normal pizzicato, but nope, he's just ramming his fingers into the fingerboard.

Everything up until the literal last second is phenomenally unique, but I can still relate it somehow to sounds and techniques I've seen and heard applied to vocals and that instrument elsewhere. Then he plays the bell harmonics. On a string bass. FUCK THAT'S COLD.😱

You should check out El Pony Pisador - they are a shanty group from Spain who are marvelous instrumentalists and can also sing. One of their guys does the throat-singing as well in one song.
