“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

I kind of learned both at the same time. I practiced gel on myself first, then I went to school and learned acrylics and little bit of gel. My clients in general prefer gel, but I still do some acrylics.

I find gel to be easier to build because you can literally just blob it on there in a shape resembling a nail. But then you have to be really good at filing to turn that blob into something. I find acrylic to be easier to file because you can control the shaping on the front end. So the filing on acrylic isn’t as difficult. In my area (suburb of Atlanta) it’s all short nails and dip. I see very, very few people with any sort of extensions.

Started in 1999 with acrylic. Gel wasn't really around here in san diego until about 2015 and now lots of salons cater to gel as people are not wanting to smell the acrylic. I would suggest learning both but I still prefer acrylic cuz I'm an old dog 🐕 😅

I've started playing with enhancements all at once recently, and as a complete beginner for acrylic, gel, and hybrid gel, I find acrylic the hardest. Not because it's inherently more difficult, but because it has a layer of pressure to it that other materials don't. When I mess up with gel or hybrid gel, I can keep fiddling with it or even just wipe it off. When I mess up with acrylic, it'll set before I can deal with it an suddenly I have an absolute mess on my nails. I'm sure it'll get much easier once my practice hand arrives and the consequences of messing up an acrylic nail are easier to deal with - it'll be easier to practice when I can just throw away a messed up practice nail rather than having to soak, scrape, and file the disaster off my own fingers 😅

As you all know I'm just DIY but the market around here is definitely acrylic. I would use my own nails to sell gel to people. I always get so many compliments on them and I know people just assume they're acrylic. I would use that to sell my gel nails. I could not have done that in the beginning though.

I’m a beginner but I’m also not doing “nail school” or anything. I just do nails for fun on myself and a couple friends, I never want to make it a business. I started with polygel because it seemed simple and has less tools. I then tried acrylic because my best friend always has acrylics. I use polygel more because I find it easier on myself but through your videos I find I’m getting better at acrylic so thank you!

Right now, I'm learning gel first, but I'm also trying to learn acrylic, but it seems to me that gel is easier because you can fix it more accessible than acrylic because fixing it is more challenging, but I still want to learn the sculpting part which I'm getting better as I continue to practice the art of it

I learned gel polish, then acrylic. Now I'm learning and specializing in hybrid gel and builder gel. I noticed I am becoming severely allergic to acrylic, so I am forcing myself to master gel and hybrid gel because my days with acrylic is over.

This is so8 I wanted to do for 30 or so years, what kind of credentials do I need? One thing that bugs me the most is the monomer smell, it is headache and sinus pain city... Love your videos and teachings!

I learned soft/hard gel first. Pretty much perfected it with forms. Self taught, so I struggled for a looooooong time. Then I just….got it. I do gel, polygel, and dip services. I’ve been learning acrylic for a solid year almost daily and STILL suck at it. I just find it difficult. I find it difficult to file/shape, etc. I’m super light handed, and those small strokes, and am great at that flowy technique. I just do better with concerning gel. And am more time efficient. I lay damn near 20 beads with acrylic lol. My clients like all kinds of nails. Acrylic, gel, poly, long, short, coffin, almond, etc. So I usually am okay letting them know I’m mostly specialized In gel, but my die hard acrylic clients don’t mind getting dip. I caaaaaan do acrylic just takes me the longest to do. Like 2 hours or so. And that’s JUST laying the product and shaping. Absolutely not time efficient considering my gel sets are just at an hour or an hour and a half.

Same for me. I have a home studio and I can't use monomer so I pretty much learned everything possible about all of the types of gel. Now my clients wouldn't go back to acrylic, despite having to be in UV light. I also love the self leveling properties and half the time I don't need to do any finish filing at all. So, it winds up being faster in the long run.

What if you don't do acrylic because you're allergic to it
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 2 жыл бұрын
Our Synergy Gel system is a true hard gel, not a polygel, so it does not have acrylic in it. However, if you have allergies, you should consult with a doctor or allergist to figure out what you are having a reaction to. A lot of nail products have similar chemistry, so there may be something in both acrylic and gel that could cause a reaction.
