I have recently been thinking about whether we are doing our long-distance motorcycle trips wrong all these years? In this, vlog #45, come along for a ride with me while I talk about what I mean and how my thinking is changing. Thanks for watching, if you enjoy my content consider subscribing as it helps the channel and me know that what I am putting out is connecting and valuable to the community.

I don't ride as far as you do on any given day, and I do stay in hotels. It's all about the ride. I stop at roadside historical signs, have pie at diners, maybe hit a small town museum and the like. I slow down when something smells amazing, I stop at the roadside to look at rocks, or maybe just the view. I love the roar of the bike, the mechanical music but also the quiet of some pocket park or turn out. I ride alone and love it. It's the ride, not the miles. I call it "therapy" and I feel so alive and immersed in my surroundings, a special kind of peace. Others ride differently and that's just fine. Keep the shiny side up.

What you’ve just said is exactly what I’m talking about wanting to do more of going forward. Besides we’ve kinda already done all the really big trips so should be easier from now on. Thanks for watching and commenting!! Hope to see you out there one day. Always ride safe!

The great debate. This is always a dilemma for me when looking at routes. I prefer the backroads whenever possible. Some trips and time constraints dictate interstate though.

Retired 13 years ago been to west coast up and down 3 times and took 30 days for each one. No reason to go other than to ride but manage to find thing to see and do. I do my best to stop and smell the roses.

I love taking the backroads. I dont mind highway driving, but I hate semi's just cos....the accidents ive almost been in have always been caused by semis. Anyroad, regardless, I like the backroads. But Ive done some long distance rides to Michigan, NYC, etc. Never coast to coast but yknow, 900 mile rides. Id rather take a few days to get there, see the country, the state im in, take my time. Get a hotel maybe. But, sometimes, like you said, you dont have a choice and you gotta hit the highway and pull 6, 700 miles in a few hours. But like rehhytech says below, "Time is indeed a bitch".

Providing you want to do a coast to coast FAST : take a plane Fastish and Enjoyable : take a TRAIN Fastish and on pavement : Drive or Ride truckers/HOGs why do you tour on motorcycles same roads you haul on? Fastish and not on pavement : Drive or Ride the back/gravel roads this is so enjoyable take your kids to enjoy the experience : set direct milage max to 400 miles every other day between over night accomadations Kanasas City Mo to Sacramento Ca : Pony Express Trail that trip on you tourer spend the same amount of time the boys did back when the mail was getting carried, you might hate it!
