From what I understood and practiced, eating a complete balanced diet is the way to go. It all comes down to the calories you consumed versus the calories you burned in a day which keeps your health in check. A person should be able to hit proper macro goals according to their level of activity everyday (carb, protein and fat). If you get proper excercise 5-6 days a week, then I don't see why people have to worry too much about eating things they like. Its all about calories in vs calories out. If eating protein sources with high fat ratio is risky on a daily basis (like red meat and eggs), I would certainly be in trouble, as I eat around 10 whole eggs a day and 250gms of either red meat/chicken a day as well, but my blood tests tell a whole different story. Just make sure you are getting proper workout and eating a balanced diet. Its as simple as that.

From what I am observing after watching Dr. Pal's videos is bengali diet is actually very good. In normal middle class bengali house hold meat is very much limited to maybe once or twice a week, atleast 2 days vegetarian and and other days alternating between fish and egg according to choice. Red meat is a occasional thing once in 3 or four months.

I'm 34 and mostly my eating window is between 2 and 7pm and most of the time its two times meal of a proper lunch and fruits for the evening. Right now I'm on a one meal a day around 4.30 pm everyday. Through the course of these two combinations even now and earlier I have had very bad muscle loss and ofcourse weight loss too. What do I do to not lose muscle? It's pretty evident that I have had very bad muscle loss as my arms have almost flattened out . Also, I have sciatica issue due to piriformis so my exercise options are pretty limited I think. Kindly advise.

You need to add more Fat and protein in your diet. If you eat rice and fruits you will definitely lose muscle mass. That’s why this concept of calorie restriction won’t work. Eat some fatty foods in your eating window, especially meat. You will feel you’re losing weight that’s because you eating less. Our body needs nutrient dense food not sambar and dal

Follow this advice and you'll look just as under nourished as this doctor. Protien is more important than Carbs and with eating meat just 2 times a week, The majority will not get the required amount of protein, unless your diet includes a large variety of plant protien, which most Indians don't. And by the time you consume this much large variety, your calorie intake would become too much.

Considering the feeding & harmones injections given to poultry, how safe is chicken. Lamb and goat mostly feed on natural feeds in open, is this not more nutrition and less likely to contain harmful hormones and injection chemicals? I may be wrong, appreciate your response.

Non-sense, he uses barbequed-meat as an example of red meat causing cancer, infact in India we usually have curries. Meat infact is actually the best nutrient source of humans, don't confuse spirituality with nutrition. As far as the doctor is concerned his knowledge is below par.

I have stopped consuming red meat entirely after coming to the US. I never had beef or pork in my life. I am also trying to limit my meat consumption which includes mostly fish, and chicken only and I have completely switched from rice to quinoa.

Sadly the bioavailability of protein from soya as well as a majority of vegetarian protein sources are very low. In order for proper absorption of the protein from these sources, you have to understand the amino acid profile of each source and combine with other food sources.

@@NinanMathews17 can you explain about amino acid profile, also few examples please
@NinanMathews17

@@DharaniPownrajan Essential Amino Acids (EAA) fuel the Muscle Protein Synthesis that allows your body to perform, recover and grow. Our bodies can manufacture some amino acids on its own, there are others that it cannot. Essential Amino Acids are those Amino Acids that our bodies cannot make and that we; therefore, need to consume through foods, supplements or both. There are a total of 9 EAA that our body cannot produce by its own, so it must be given to our bodies through a balanced diet. An adequate intake of EAAs maintains and builds muscle, synthesize hormones and improve metabolism. Now coming to bioavailability of protein in different foods. All foods aren't equal when it comes to bioavailability or biological value. The unit for measuring how much protein a certain source of food can provide is called biological value, or BV. For egg, one egg has a BV of 100. One whole egg contains 6.29g of protein, which means that with a BV of 100 the entire 6.29g of protein is ingested and absorbed by our body, so eggs are an excellent source of protein. Surprisingly, many of the vegetarian sources of protein have a low BV. So a 100g of soy, which contains about 36g protein, has a BV of just 57. Therefore, if you eat 100gms of Soy, out of the 36 GM of protein, only 20gms is available for total absorption. Also, soy protein is missing in the essential amino acid methionine, which is why it must be combined with a grain like wheat or rice, which contains methionine, for the body to get all of the nine amino acids. This is why eating a balanced meal is important. Each macronutrient depends on the other to maximize its absorption and bioavailability. Another thing to consider is that, the BV goes down with age, or if you are unfit, because your body is not processing the food efficiently. So a balanced diet with proper workouts, preferably 4-5 days a week would be the ideal choice. Hope you understood, Take care.

Meat is complete source of protein, where as plant proteins are incomplete (we should eat multiple plant proteins source to make it complete protein, which is difficult practically). Then how come its only adviced twice in a week?

Wrong. How do you think the source of nutrients of meat came from plants. Plants < goat < human . Planton < fish< human. 😂
