Which putter is best for you? Is a soft putter face best, or a hard putter face? In this video we discuss different putter faces and millings that can best fit your game!

There are a TON of different putter faces out there, and big companies, such as Scotty Cameron, Bettinardi, Odyssey, and Taylormade, are coming out with new technology all the time. In this video we discuss the many different putter faces we have tested, and include a scale of softness for different types of popular millings.
Of the popular putter face millings we discuss, we go over the horizontal line “FIT face” milling, honeycomb, and flymill. Some other popular putter face technology we’ve tested include Microhinge Face Inserts, and Odyssey’s White Hot.
There is quite a difference between putter faces, and how they feel, and a lot of the decision comes down to what feels best for the player! Make sure to watch our video to find out more about the difference in putter faces and millings!

I did testing and not a lot of people know this but the harder feeling putters make the ball roll faster. I have the Bettinardi BB 40 and it took more than 10 rounds to figure the sweet spot. Once you find the sweet spot that is in tune with your stroke putting becomes fun.

Ya that is interesting huh? On the firmer faces such as flymill or honeycomb the ball seems to jump of the face a little bit hotter whereas something like the FIT face both feels soft and comes off the face softer. I have a couple of putters with different faces and when you switch from one extreme to the other it takes a bit to get used to. With all of that said, it just takes some time to get used to and get a feel for which is why it is so important to find the feel that you like best in your hands first before judging a putter's performance.

Recently switched from the odyssey stroke lab 10 (2019) to the Scotty Cameron Phantom X 7.5 (2022) A couple of big changes as far as type of putter and toe hang, grip etc I was missing too many putts from 5-10 feet and needed something with better feel. I found the moderate firm of the Scotty paired with my stroke was the best for giving me the most accurate feedback on my putts. Only played 2 rounds with it, but I have been 1-putting Much more often already.

That’s awesome! It’s crazy how much of a difference a putter can make. Most people just accept a putter for what it is, and never test out different head types, face types, hosels, etc.

By championship, do you mean the FedEx Cup Championship? We do have a video explaining how that works. Or do you mean something else?

What about what ball to play with these faces? Softer ball or firmer ball for what faces? Thanks

Definitely want to play a ball that best fits your overall game, not just your putter. With putting, if you play the same ball consistently, you’ll have a more consistent stroke. When testing out different putter faces, it would be good to use the same ball as well, whether it’s a soft or firm ball.
