This grammar is used a lot in real life, so let's master this today!
I will also explain the difference between ながら, て, たまま for advanced learners, so you will learn something new even if you already know this grammar!
I hope you like it!

I have never had this explained to me before! Thank you. In english, "wearing" and "sitting" are not the instant act or action of "putting on" or "sitting down" but the state of "having something on" or "being in a seated position" In english they are continuous actions, not instant. So english speakers need to really THINK about this.
@redshots5275
@redshots5275 4 жыл бұрын
Was just about comment something similar before seeing this. It really isn't interesting isn't?! Such a different conceptualization. I wonder then what state those glasses are in, in that case. Would you REALLY be 'wearing' them? Probably not, least not the English notion of "wearing". I guess, 「眼鏡を掛けます。」 would be "I put on glasses", then. It's a really nice (and vitally important) moment when you can understand another piece of the Japanese Language in terms of it's own internal logic, and way of looking at the world. Rather than through the lens of English, or whatever your native language is.

@@allisonthompson7121 Hey ! Do you know how to connect two or more verbs in japanese? Not in the sense of describing actions (in this case we would conjugate the verbs into te form and the last one in masu form), in the sense like " I learn to speak english at the faculty"? Would you conjugate one of them into Te form and the other into Masu/dictionary form? or would you use 1 verb + koto ga + the other? how would you connect them ? I'm learning japanese and none of the genki boooks cover this grammar ... thank you

Great video as usual but I wonder (at about 6:00 and after) if めがねをかけるcan be an "instant" and a "state" verb. I had actually regarded it as the state of wearing glasses (for a period of time), rather than the action of putting them on. And certainly you might say "I was wearing glasses while I drove through the stop light". Then that would be ながら 。。。ね?Ok - just watched the example about sittING. Tricky. Is すわるthe action of sitting DOWN (changing from a standing to sitting position) rather than being in a state of sitting. Yet as you can presumably say "座っている” there is a element of state (for me) - but perhaps not for a Japanese person. Is there an element of 2 ongoing ACTIONS rather than 2 ongoing STATES in this? Nero was fiddling while Rome burned ;-) Help please!

@JoseOliveira-kc4tr
@JoseOliveira-kc4tr 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you determine to be the main action. Imagine that Sunday afternoons you always watch Netflix and only occasionally do you drink beer - watching Netflix will be your main action. You can say then "I'm drinking beer while watching Netflix ", 「ビールを飲みながらネットフリックスをみっている。」. The thing is, MikuSensei sometimes swaps the order in the english translation.
