CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Sidney (Wesley Snipes) and Billy (Woody Harrelson) get a knife pulled on them when they try to hustle some street ball players.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Ron Shelton (Bull Durham) wrote and directed the basketball-oriented seriocomedy White Men Can't Jump. Woody Harrelson plays Billy Hoyle, a white con artist who hustles basketball games with black players, lulling his victims into the misguided notion that white men can't match up with black hoopsters. One of his victims, African-American Sidney Deane (Wesley Snipes), becomes Hoyle's "agent," arranging his various inner city scams. Deane doesn't feel as though he's selling out his own people; he goes along with Hoyle to provide a better life for his wife, Rhonda (Tyra Ferrell), and son. The film breezes through several zany sequences, including one liberal-baiting satirical moment set at a black/white "solidarity" basketball game arranged by an ambitious politician. Crooked gamblers intrude upon the last scenes of the film, but Hoyle is rescued by his girlfriend, Gloria (Rosie Perez), a Jeopardy freak who realizes a lifelong dream by winning big on the Alex Trebek-hosted game show.

In case nobody knew it. Raymond (the crazy guy with the knife) is actually Marques Johnson. He was a really good NBA player for the Milwaukee Bucks in the late 70's early 80's.

This whole film keeps impressing me to this day. Wesley & Woody only did a crash course boot camp, to learn hoops for the sake of the shooting the scenes. And they still end up playing like veteran ballers.

He was never underrated, he just now semi-retired. Nobody is the top star forever, people get old and willingly step down or at least take roles that are not so taxing on their health. Bruce Willis for example. He is doing so many low budget films just to pay the bills and not looking to do the next big hit anymore like he used to. Plus people fall out of the public eye with future generations because well, they get older and young folk won't know who they are anyway nor relate to them.

Irony is that Woody Harleson played college basketball, whereas Wesley Snipes had very little experience, and they had to bring in a ringer to film some of his early basketball scenes. However, by the end of filming, Snipes had improved so much that the movie's basketball consultants said he could also play at the college level

Good old raymond, brilliant character in a brilliant movie, for the small part he played he absaloutly nailed it. What a great laugh of a movie to watch. 1992. Man it seems like 100 years ago. 2020 im writing this. Wee all age, cant do nothing about that. But all the classic movies are still out thare to watch.
