The watch industry is big...like really big. With countless amounts of brands in Switzerland alone, it gets hard keeping track of who is who. But, in fact, a lot of our favorite brands like IWC, A. Lange & Sohne, Omega, and others are actually owned by 1 of 3 major watch conglomerates. LVMH, Richemont, and the Swatch Group have majority stakes in tons of different brands. But how do they decide which brands to acquire, and how do competing brands interact when they're owned by the same group? And how do independents like Audemars Piguet and Rolex fit into all of it? Let Jon Callahan explain watch conglomerates in tonight's episode of "The Classroom"!

Just my experience and own opinion, collectors are less drawn to Richemont & LVMH brands today becasue of the identity reducing fashion influence and some cross-breeding designs. The independants are going to do better.

Jon, great video. What do you think of some of these conglomerates (particularly Richemont) moving towards more and more Boutique Only watches, while others are trimming retail ADs?

LVMH despite hublot and tag heuer, Louis Vuitton also design watch since 2002, and also will launch High Watch such as Flying Turbillon in 2019

Great walk down conglomerate road Jon. in your opinion do think the smaller players couldn’t survive on their own? I would think the big 3 Rolex, Patek, AP outspend exponentially on advertising....especially Rolex. Advertising dollars got to be a big part of it.
