s02e03: No Pain:
Armand tells the history of the Theatre des Vampires; Louis tells of his reluctance to join.
Based on Anne Rice's iconic novel, follow Louis de Pointe's epic story of love, blood and the perils of immortality, as told to the journalist Daniel Molloy.
Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, or simply Interview with the Vampire, is an American gothic horror television series created by Rolin Jones for AMC, based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Anne Rice. The series follows the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) who recounts his life with his maker Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and teenage vampire Claudia (Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles) to veteran journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), accompanied by ancient vampire Armand (Assad Zaman). The series embraces the homosexual elements of Rice's work, which are only insinuated in the 1994 film adaptation of the novel. It is the first television series in Rice's Immortal Universe.
Interview with the Vampire received a series order in June 2021, after AMC Networks had purchased the rights to intellectual property encompassing 18 of Rice's novels, primarily The Vampire Chronicles, in 2020. The series was renewed for an eight-episode second season in September 2022, ahead of the premiere of its first season on October 2, 2022.
The first season received critical acclaim, with praise going towards the writing, tone, costumes, soundtrack, production values, performances (particularly those of Anderson and Reid), and chemistry between the two actors.
Adapted from Anne Rice's 1976 gothic horror novel Interview with the Vampire, the series centers on the life story of vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy. An affluent black man in 1910s New Orleans, Louis is romanced and later made a vampire by the charismatic Lestat de Lioncourt. But the price of immortality is steep, and the relationship between Louis and Lestat is further complicated by the introduction of Lestat's newest fledgling, the teenage vampire Claudia.
Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac
Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt
Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy
Bailey Bass (season 1)[a] and Delainey Hayles (season 2)[6] as Claudia
Assad Zaman as Rashid/Armand[b]
Ben Daniels as Santiago (season 2)[7]
Recurring
Kalyne Coleman as Grace de Pointe du Lac, Louis's sister[8]
Rae Dawn Chong as Florence de Pointe du Lac, Louis's mother
Chris Stack as Thomas "Tom" Anderson, the owner of the Fair Play Saloon, an upscale brothel
Christian Robinson as Levi Freniere, Grace's new husband[9]
John DiMaggio as Alderman Fenwick, a businessman looking to take advantage of Louis
Jeff Pope as Finn O'Shea, one of Louis's enforcers
Dana Gourrier as Bricktop Williams, a prostitute who works for Louis
Maura Grace Athari as Antoinette, a blues singer who becomes romantically involved with Lestat[10]

I agree, Armand’s story seems to be lacking any information about Lestat’s motives. I think the whole series of events would probably sound a lot different if Lestat were telling it. Like Daniel says “I’ve got to meet this guy!” I want him to interview Lestat so bad.

RJ is Raglan James who at this time may or may not be a member of the Talamasca, an organization that monitors supernatural beings for example vampires and Witches. And they are currently developing a show by the name as another part of the Immortal Universe. In book four. TTBT, Raglan is now a body switching wizard. Daniel should be very careful 😊

@@coupureetsaignement So true. I can't remember if it's episode 5 or 6 but we will see young Daniel in San Francisco with Armand and Louis. And like you said, so many turns, in the preview it's Armand biting Daniel not Louis as Daniel believes it happened at this point. So the question is does Daniel ever become a vampire in this series? Because he has aged it certainly didn't happen in the past. I am confused 😕 🤣😅 And it's great because if it followed the books exactly what would be the point of the show. 🌷🌷💕🌷🌷

This is my favorite episode so far. I like the way the series introduced the Children of Darkness and the beginnings of the Theater of the Vampires. I do like Armand. I believe he’s always been a complicated cat. I would love to hopefully see in the future Lestat’s version of his first meeting of Armand. I freely admit that I’m watching the show because I’m more interested in Lestat. In my opinion he’s the more interesting character. I look forward to more of his POV. The acting by these actors have been fantastic and I’m completely obsessed with the series. Ben Daniels especially deserves kudos because his Santiago is really something special in my opinion.

I think the introduction of Nicky and Raglan James was sort of exciting too. Being such a fan of the books it's always exciting to see which character will be introduced next. Tbh I wasn't expecting Raglan or Nicky just yet. Maybe that means we'll be getting more Lestat before season 3 lol. We can hope! You're right about the actors and Ben is definitely killing it as Santiago.

Raglan James was quite a surprise. In the books he was an ex-member of the Talamasca, who had psychic abilities and was caught stealing. He would meet with Lestat & do a body hop in the book Tale of the Body Thief, where Lestat would become human and expect Raglan to return. When he doesn't he has to have help to regain his body as Raglan, using Lestats body is killing others. By the end David, an older member of the Talamasca is able to switch places & help Lestat regain his body. In turn Lestat turns David into a vampire who is now inside Raglan's body. I'm wondering if Daniel, who appears to be more like David will be the one who switches places with Raglan. In the books Daniel is younger and ends becoming a vampire when Armand turns him (after years of Daniel begging to be a vampire). Both Daniel & David are interviewers, so it would make sense to combine the characters. I'm actually surprised Raglan is white, if I remember right Raglan looks more Indian then white. But then again Armand is far from what the actor looks like.

@HuntingViolets The thing that's crazy to me about that, that's doing my head in about it is... in S1, Louis tells that Claudia oversaw him in the cemetery. The finale abandonment of his sister, where she supposedly decided then that she realized she was made to be Louis "sister" and that she understood from her time out there that basically nothing matters without Louis & Lestat. First off something was off about that, something just didn't make sense. But then fans do what what fans do, and someone got a screenshot of a part of Claudia's diary, with an almost completely different reason why she came back. Talking about how Lestat would never let him go, that Louis didn't want to leave him, she had to find a way to convince him to leave. Nothing about seeing Louis at the cemetery or Grace, nothing about being a sister, etc. And then now, S2, we have Louis telling about her saying what she said that essentially after Bruce left, and she escaped. That it was then that she decided to go back home, specifically to get Louis and go to Europe. Again no mention of the cemetery, not mention of Grace or any realization about being his sister. It's just... there are so many things that have me spinning around just like "WHAT IS THE TRUTH". And I know that's the point, but I would love to have literally ALL of them sit down and ask all of them right there together about certain key events. And have them all answer, then work out together, what is actually the closest to the truth. I expect it may be something we may find out really this season. But also maybe not. Because as the books go, it's not till Merrick, that we find out Claudia's real thoughts and reasons for what she did. So 🤷🏽‍♀️ Theres alot that needs to be ironed out and help up to the light, basically.

Think about it, maybe Lestat is feeding information to R.James and his group in order to slyly reveal that he saved Louis ... who else would have the original copy of Lestat's pages of the play? Maybe there's another connection and much of the information that group has IS from Lestat who enjoys having his memoirs immortalized. Maybe Claudia's diaries encouraged Lestat to have his own story written since Louis was so enamoured with them.

@@mayaamis Armand and Louis say in the last episode that he was "with" Lestat, so that's what I meant by "Lestat and Armand as lovers," as he has told Louis that or they've agreed to lie to Daniel about it if not. I wasn't clear about that, sorry. I almost added, "Of course that is all just what Armand is telling us" but then didn't. I fell into the trap of "I know what I mean," unfortunately. Yes, it was clearly a farce and I'm not sure I love that either, although it fits with Armand. I know we aren't getting Lestat's version for a while and do wonder how much will be different in it and whether it will have the same haze of the unreliable narrator hovering over or surrounding it as well. (You can see why I stopped myself from writing more! 😊)

@@HuntingViolets well Louis is repeating what Armand told him lol. I'm sure when we will be watching "real" Lestast story in S3 it will be more seriously filmed and acted and have more truth in it. I mean to some extents everyone personal POV is a bit subjective there is no way to avoid that but this was clearly filmed and edited in a way that is not to be taken seriously at all :) I do believe they will slowly back of the false memories narrative as the show progresses in the future and will start to converge to more realistic narrative. I know a lot of people were disappointed seeing this segment painted in such light because ppl were waiting for years to see real more serious Lestat/Armand flashbacks and this was not it. but if you look at it just as piece of Armand's personal fantasy/fiction nonsense I thought it was hilarious and entertaining 🤣

Maybe just seeing Nicholas so briefly and in such a way. Of course, Armand would see him like that. I think I am just being weird about it and I don't quite know why.

I read the books and I know a lot of people who read all the books who enjoy the series. The only reason you believe this show is trash is rooted in bigotry, unfortunately. You have no proper constructive criticism or any valid input besides 'wokeness', which is the weakest argument that bigoted people have ever created. Anyone who uses that word automatically makes me think that they have 0 critical analysis skills or argumentative skills. But please, if you actually have a good argument that is not rooted in 'anti-wokeness' and actually about the show's quality, write all of them because seeing these childish complaints is getting boring.

@@lordbaphie stop lying, you did not read the books, because if you had read it, you will notice that the only thing in common is "the title" and characters names, nothing more. I have absolutely nothing against stories of LGBT (I love Sense8, they did not trash any original source with that), I can name hundreds more. But what we are seeing today with some adaptations, is mostly political and ideology driven, when the plot and source remains at last place. My critics to this show is not just how they changed all characters, they changed all the story as well (in a bad way). For example Armand with Charles Xavier (x-men) powers is incredible dumb, he could not even fly. As I said the whole story is changed, I need a book just to write all differences. For example, lets play the reverse game, try to find the "similarities with the books". That list would be 1000 times shorter than trying to find the differences.
@lordbaphie
@lordbaphie 3 күн бұрын
@@angellestat2730 But that has nothing to do with the show's quality itself. You claim to not be a purist but the only reason you don't like the show is because it's not accurate to the books. I have read the books, and I enjoy the show as a separate entity. And saying that the queerness in the show is just 'wokeness' is a great disservice to the books when the whole thing deals so much with queer love. You may not be able to see it because you are blinded by your 'oh-but-I-can't-be-homophobic-because-I-love-this-particular-gay-show' thing but it is there, and it is intended to be there. It has always been there. The show may wear different clothing but the wearer is the same as the books. The themes and foundations of it is still there. God forbid anyone create an adaptation that does not follow the source material letter-by-letter, word-for-word. How utterly despicable that these people dare to present the themes and plot of the source in their own creative spin, eh? Now my question for you is have you even actually watched the whole show and analyzed it, or do you just go around posting the same boring 'but it's not accurate to the books' complaints to every KZfaq video related to it?
