Kritter and Hammer Bro clones best short stops. Mario is also solid at short. 2nd I like to have Magikoopa for the staff special move and since its arm isn’t as strong it doesn’t have as far to throw someone out as it would at short. 3rd kritters and piantas are solid although pianta has a cause of the oopsies sometimes and misses hard hit balls but can make the occasional snag especially if he has a star and his arm is so nice and that laser throw man don’t get me started. Having someone with chemistry at first lets him fling that ball and get about anyone out if he fields it. The best outfield combos I have found are either two Yoshi and a baby like baby Mario or DK in center, or Yoshi in center and a baby and Mario in the other fields but sometimes the babies or Mario will pitch for us. Wario’s team has had a staple of Monty Mole at center (though his short stature has been issues at times) and two shy guys who all have solid speed and great playmaking abilities. Another slept on combo if you want to use monty in center is paragoomba in part due to his great glove but also his ability to super jump and float over Daisy and Bowser Jr’s star swings

That’s why it’s impossible! He’s pretty low but everyone is so close that it doesn’t affect his position on the tier list too much. I love his star swing but captain stars can be tough to execute online so they’re a bit lower on this tier list

I think doing another tournament would be fun! We have some competitive games in our discord and Ribbbz has the highest rating on there, but Andrew doesn’t play. We’re doing a mini-tournament soon to set up for a potential larger one as well!

Blue Yoshi with 1.733! He had the highest avg and OBP as well. But a lot of the alts had small samples like that. Funny how he was the last to hit a home run but somehow the best hitter here!

It’s a pretty annoying thing to setup for emulators. Not to mention vertical Wii remote is the worst control scheme and nunchuck vs sideways is a lot closer of a debate than one would think. I could see requiring nunchuck play in an irl tournament but even then that is a little silly

I want to know what your opinion on piantas is, because recently opinions in the discord of him are being raised. (I was already high on him from the beginning, mixture of a good chem tree going from Mario to peach combined with toads and noki’s) as well as just having a good bat and solid dive range, I am getting close to rating them above the kritters, although I also have a much lower opinion on miis than the vast majority of players which affects my views on kritters.

@@LTMStarlight If my memory servers people were able to consistently use Pianta's in top tier teams. However, the Pianta's consistently preformed below expectations. Now, the expectation was for them to be the best, so falling short of the best is not that bad of a spot to be in. I personally would put them at the very bottom of the highest tier, above average performance would put them in a solid place but what pushes them into the highest tier would be their amazing chemistry. However, they would defiantly fall short of the other top tier characters. If I recall at the time one of the team comps we considered top 3 used Pianta's, however it dropped one of them and only used two. Going down to two was a consistency breakthrough that really elevated the team. In short, I think they do really well complementing better players, but fall short when compared to said better players. Of course this is assuming catching home runs is banned because if it is not all power hitters suck and should never be brought.

@@LTMStarlight What drew us to fall in love with the game was the involved baserunning, high risk high reward fielding opportunities, and the crown jewel of the game star management. We played with items for a wile but ended up turning them off as they are incredibly centralizing. Once people got really good at using them they become the primary way to get hits and there is often little counterplay from the defense other than get lucky. Yes you can jump most of them, but the batter having complete autonomy over the items would generate lose lose situations. I suppose if playing online over dolphin or something would introduce enough latency to make it not as oppressive but that was not the environment we played in. We played in person and found the items to be by far the least interesting part but also the most impactful. Thus in order to put a greater emphasis on the interesting parts of the game we preferred we turned off items and never looked back. This of course had the knock on effect of now every hanging fly ball was now an out instead of a hit. This was fine, even preferred, but unless a homerun went down the foul line it became an out. By running in a tight circle at the wall it makes the ai run so fast they can help on hits squarely in left and right where they have no right being able to help at. Most of my exuberant hours are with no items no catching homeruns from the zoomed in camera. It's funny, Mii's are garbage when items and jumping allowed, but without them as a crutch chemistry no longer becomes the most important stat (Still insanely good though) and Mii's get to show off just how bad they really are. With items on I believe the only stat that matters is chemistry. With items off chemistry is still insane, but other strengths get to shine bright.
