We’ve seen good girls going bad a lot in the past especially with Disney kids and kids that have grown up being in the spotlight at such a young age. On the first section of this video, I think it's important to hold parents responsible too if their children are fans of teen stars. There is more than enough information on the topic, but like Britney said" I'm not their mum". It's not the stars jobs to be making sure their young fans are dressing appropriately etc. If the parents are so mad over "bad girls", more if the "bad girls" start influencing their children, it's the parents responsibility to ensure that their kids are being age appropriate (how they dress, act, what music they listen too, swears and slurs etc)

Great video again. This reminds me of something Zendaya said recently.. about how she wished she went to school and had a normal childhood. I think all these child actors not having a chance to lead a usual life impacts them so much. I hope things get better for the child stars at least now, and they get to balance everything.

Well i think everything is a marketing technique.....if it makes her comfortable she should continue (i have always found glitter very itchy and annoying)

it seems to be nowadays! yes I agree whatever makes her feel the most comfortable and like you said I couldn't last 10 minutes wearing glitter without wanting to peel my face off XD!

With the revelations about the sexual abuse some children experienced at Nickelodeon, it wouldn't be surprising if she was also a victim. Her recent work seems to exhibit a hyper-sexual nature, which is often observed in individuals who have experienced sexual abuse during their childhood.

Nicely done and analyzed, Abbie! I believe the impact of wealth, fame, power, and privilege also play huge roles in these "child stars" breaking out of their media-molded shells. The concept that each generation learns from its predecessor, and feels a need to do more or be more extreme than the previous one, seems to be prevalent as well. Needing to one-up those who came before. I also think that it is a psychological development issue - children who are unable to learn how to navigate the world around them as child celebrities, then suddenly are given some sort of independence, results in them attempting to 'find themselves' as young adults in ways that are often destructive and 'rebellious'. Keep doing what you're doing, Abbie! If you make videos about topics that you are passionate about or interested in, your energy and quirkiness will bring people to watch your content.

I think due to being trapped in a ball with child acting for so many years. Pretty much being the breadwinners for their family. Having to be a certain way in public to keep a persona. It makes sense the next step is to break free. And many times that explosion leads to a bit of a chaotic route until they realize it. But then again I’m sure this is beyond me. Just trying to take a seat in their mind for a moment.

You are probably too young to have watched the South Park episode named Britney's New Look (S12E02) aired in 2006 which parodies this phenomenon. The punchline of the episode is America needs to raise young girls to sacrifice for a good corn harvest. I take it as a metaphor for the entertainment industry needs to sacrifice it's old star to raise a new one.

you see a lot of similar things with young athletes when they get their first big break. Having spent the entirety of their teen years in a very regimented and contrived situation, they have not developed mentally and socially as other kids have, they then suddenly are free from all those restraints. Couple that with the sense of having missed out and the sense of life with no or little consequences, and you get a perfect recipe for going off the deep end.

Your take on the subjects and being always cautious not to trash anybody is really classy. And yes, sometimes it is just a marketing strategy but in other cases, it's just teenagers trying to be rebellious.

Not only is this a marketing technique, but it's the exact same guy every time. Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan have gone to the same guy when they turned 18 to get their image revamped. Possibly, JoJo went to him, too.

Hey it's been a minute, nice to see you back making videos also the whole Jojo Siwa thing is definitely a marketing technique. What's crazy to me is that she was inspired by Miley Cyrus and that's like the last thing you want to hear a child star say, considering just how controversial that phase of Miley was. I'm all for experimenting and seeing what sticks with your audience but don't cross all boundaries and make people feel genuinely worried for your well-being.

I feel what separates her from Miley and such is, they were actually using it to create something and understand themselves more, like it felt like an actual journey for them, but with Jojo it feels so artificial and absolutely like she’s just trying to keep herself relevant. Like what is her journey really, she’s a rich lady who cheats on her partners and abuses children for tv, and how is she creatively portraying that? She didn’t even write the song.

I don’t want to say it’s a marketing technique but I do find it all interesting. It feels like swinging a pendulum all the way to the other side (hence, good girl gone bad). Which doesn’t seem effective…… However, I do agree with the parents though. Young girls are heavily influenced by pop culture, they will naturally emulate what they see and adore. “I’m not their parents” yes, but you are a public figure who should understand the responsibility that comes from putting yourself online. Btw I don’t know why Eminem was saying all of that about his daughter like he wasn’t producing songs with vulgar content which kids and teens heard.

Abbie-Lee doesn't seem like a very common name in the UK. Makes me think of Alabama. Anyway, I like it and fuck the people who bullied you for it. Whenever I hear about some child star being ruined, it gets blamed on the industry or the people in the industry. Mostly it's girls talking about how they were sexualized from a young age. It's one of those subjects I should read more about, but I'm reluctant to because it's so dark.

I'd be curious to see if anyone has ever done a study where they compared the long-term career outcomes of former child stars who dramatically shatter their family-friendly personas with publicity stunts against those who just quietly transition into more age-appropriate roles. I imagine that people keep going this route because they believe it works, but it would be interesting to determine if it actually does.

I think the problem is it's mostly just talk, like she's still walking around in these glittery outfits, they're just darker colours. The original lyrics to karma were "messed around" and she went out of her way to change it to "effed around" in an attempt to make it more edgy, which backfired and just makes it look even more tryhard. Olivia Rodrigo is a much better example of a child star turned edgy pop singer, she's not making a big deal about it, she's just doing it. JoJo's problem is how big of a deal she's making about it, it feels inauthentic.

For Britney its probably a lot about the father... Like holy shit, that's one prime level asshole... But in general I think its 2 things: 1) Being overwhelmed - just remember how kid/teenage years were, even with regular stuff for regular kids from regular families... Now amplify that by 100x if you are a celebrity. Teenagers are simply "not built" to be a "rockstar" at the age of 15. At the age of 15 you should be going to school, going to the cinema with your friends, playing sports etc, not becoming a "rockstar". Its not wonder quite a few of them ends up the way they are... 2) Family, money - sadly, a lot of blame is on the parents and people around kid/teenage stars. I bet a lot of such upcoming stars are pushed hardly into things just to become famous, to earn more money etc. And normal relationships, growing up and being a family is put aside for money and fame. Hey, you don't even have to look at celebrities, just look at Instagram and tiktok on how parents use their children to make money....

A rumor had it that Miley wanted Disney to terminate her contract so that she can walk away without penalties and her father was also in it for the shtick. Who knows if it was true or not.

I don't have a dog in this race, surprise surprise my interest never aligned much with teen girls. I will say as an outsider looking in I feel like a lot of these girls too often choose to go off into the deep end. There is some strong middle ground between child star and adult star after all. Wouldn't say its all their fault though, girls seem to have it quite a bit rougher then guys when it comes to show biz. Maybe they know something I don't but these drastic changes seem to be to grab the attention of as many people as possible only to fade away. But hey they are all WAY more successful than I am so I am probably just talking out of my ass.

I think your videos are really interesting and I would love to watch them. But, unfortunately, the fast paced editing out of all natural pauses in speech makes it very unrelaxing to watch. This time I only lasted until 1:29.
