If only they had guns back then, aiming them at the crowd might have been effective to give them something else to worry about and then potentially stop the dancing. Maybe fire a round into the air to get the crowd's attention and then aiming it at them would help? Obviously not shooting them!

There's actually a lot of research about how ppl that spend time with those with schizophrenia begin to develop it themselves. Which is more horrifying by the fact that 'hysteria' often sent women to asylums and then actually became crazy

I wouldn’t just rule out Ergot, considering back in the day we had communal store houses and essentially a town or small city would draw upon the same place for resources. So get a nice batch of contamination and it would easily infect a large portion of people.

@@preranapradeep3963 As I understand it, it was because of a mistranslation. Some clerk (or cleric) misread the type of spirit that supposedly granted the power of flight, "brujah" (which is a word also used to sometimes describe witches themselves) as "brua" which has something to do with sweeping or cleaning, as in the root of the name February, the month when many Mediterranean peoples traditionally did their Spring cleaning and it was warm enough to finally bathe. You guys don’t know? It’s not about translating error lol. It’s entirely symbolic. Witches rode around on their “broomsticks” as a metaphor for “riding the Devil’s c*ck.” The clergy equated black magic and spells with being in bed with the devil. I.e. riding Satan’s whilly. You are welcome.

It just randomly happened to me at any time, and sometimes it lasted for 5 minutes and sometimes it lasted for 45 minutes. Those were the worst 2 years of my life and sometimes the pain was so bad in me that I just felt like I was going to die. And then it randomly went away when I was 12 and I heven’t had it ever since.

You're so lucky that it went away. It sounds like you're describing an intestinal condition like Crohn's, colitis (which I have), irritable bowel syndrome, or inflammatory bowel syndrome. I remember when a wolf spider 🕷 crawled out from under my bed. I’m not known for freaking out over a bug, mouse or snake but this freaked me out. I’m paralyzed From waist down so it was not easy wheeling around in my chair trying to kill it but after 10min I did.

“Demonic possessions ain’t a thing”, is a cop-out statement and a very relevant one concerning the fact that we actually don’t understand everything enough to say if things are a thing or not with complete confidence. Don’t marry a school of thought if you are not willing to divorce an open mind regarding a universe of things we are yet to discover and understand.

For literally generations? I’ve just checked - it’s an island called alicudi. Probably worth covering - they all believed for generations that they were being visited by sea monsters and angels and other flying creatures because all of them were just super high.
