That moment in the game just after Palmer equalised where Walker took an age to take a throw-in and we ended up just playing it all the way back to Pickford who then hoofed it up field only to give it away to a Spanish player pretty much summed up what was wrong about us this tournament. There's no killer instinct. Spain WERE there for the taking after Palmer equalised and since Watkins came on. I truly think if we'd been braver and pushed them hard during that period it could well have been us getting that winning goal. That said I think Spain were fully deserved winners and the best team in the tournament from start to finish so fair play to them.

It's not lacking killer instinct, it is credit to Spain, that we couldn't play out of the press. However we were on top, I think we needed Toney as opposed to Watkins if we were going to hoof.

Couldn’t agree more mate. I knew after that happened we’d lose. I fear England will never change that cowardly approach, and we’ll never win anything. The fact that anyone defends Harry Kanes performance during this euros, the fact anyone defends Southgate and says he should stay on (before he retired) just goes to show me that the British mentality will never change. Unless we get a truly attacking manager who doesn’t care about being loyal, who is brave, willing to drop players based on current form instead of reputation, we will never ever win.

Not just that, I'd go one further. There is no forward movement when England have the ball anywhere, from anyone. Kane was the main issue throughout the Tournament - the striker is the initiator of the press (he doesn’t press). He hardly ever got on the ball to make passes even though he played deep, he made no runs in the box, he made no good shots. They carried him, and they were so much better when he was subbed off. His touch was off as well, and he never held up the ball or acted as an affective target. He offered nothing . Was he injured? Lacking in fitness? Either way, he should not have played

Kane is useless if a team he plays for sets the center of gravity of the game in their own half. But if you are a team that sets center of gravity in opponents final third then he will do magic for you, both with his thru ball passing, or finishing. And if my striker thrives in attacking system, and I dont play that style of football, then Im failing my team

Southgate is tactically inept and refuses to play players in form over the big-name players. With the wealth of talent and pace we had on the bench, we should be going at teams. However, this is against his mantra as a defensive-minded manager. Kane was useless in every game and should have never been in the team today, or any game after the group stages. Had we gone with Gordon on the left and Palmer up top, we could and should have won many of these games easily. Southgate has to go, he's too scared to lose games than he is confident to win them.

Pickford Trent, Guehi, Stones, Shaw Rice, Mainoo Saka, Bellingham, Gordon Toney/Watkins It’s that simple lmao. England need a manager like Nagelsmann, someone that wants to have the ball and play offensively. Someone that implements a system and builds his lineup around that system. Foden was the poty, but he has to play Cam or RW and move to the middle. Palmer is very similar. If you rather would have one of them instead of Bellingham or Saka, then I’m 100% fine with that, but DONT force them to play on the left side. A left winger/midfielder needs to play on the left side, I don’t care that much if it’s Gordon, Grealish or whoever

S'gate plays a low block & counter with players who come from teams that dominate the ball and press high. Also, Watkins and Palmer should be starting. He brings them on late and then gets to claim to be a tactical genius when the team scores - imagine if that balanced team had started! Biggest difference was that Spain started dominating after half time because one coach knows football and the other doesn't have a clue. And I'm not even an England fan

@@zirbto5749 Rice did that job really well with Arsenal. He's a beast if he focuses only on defending. Then you can have an 8 in Bellingham (yes, move him to b2b) and a more creative 10 in Palmer. Or even Foden at 10 and definitely play Gordon at LW. As for the 2 ball-playing CBs, you have them. Stones is one. The other could have been White or Tomori. Main problem is that realities are not recognized correctly. Some of the older players are , at least ,out of form if not too old already. Some of the younger players are overhyped because some club paid 100 million for them and they are pretty good as long they are in the context of their strong teams but not good enough to carry a team at this level . Palmer showed at Chelsea that he could be a leader to build a team on.

If you're going to insist on playing Kane, then you HAVE to put players around him with pace, who will run beyond him, or play wide and get crosses in... Like Gordon. A lot of the players we had playing weren't in a system, or style of play that gets the best out of them. Having either Bellingham or Foden play on the left being another prime example. Most of the time, all three of them were trying to play in basically the same position. We had the players/squad to win this tournament... That's what's so frustrating. We just needed a manager who was braver, and more willing to implement a system and style of play that gets the best out of our star players. The fact that Gordon basically got no game time, despite arguably making one of the best plays we had, in the couple of minutes he did actually get to play. There were examples of this throughout the tournament. The fact that Palmer and Watkins didn't start in the final was ridiculous. We looked so much better when they played. They helped to stretch the play and allow us to play further up the pitch. Also, while we're on the subject of Palmer... Why did he come on for Mainoo and not Foden? So, we had three number 10's on the pitch then... It's no wonder we conceded a second goal.

Southgate barely ticked any of these boxes. Got it all wrong. We won 2 games out of 7 in 90 minutes. We scraped through the knockout rounds through the elite mentality of some of our players. I really really hope the next manager is able to realise this and just set us up in the most balanced way.

No one claims to be a great tactician . It’s just obvious that unless and until England starts producing good coaches no amount of talent will suffice. If you have the best players and your coach is anywhere near the quality of the opposition coach , then you outplay them and win . It is only because the difference in coaching quality is so large that this difference in player quality does not show on the pitch .

Though it has been clear as day for the longest time that Southgate is not the elite manager you need to win you things, but he has been kept on the job as he ‘fulfils’ other obligations to his contract. If you’re hired to win as a manager, then winning is the singular reason and nothing else.

England played exactly the same in the final as they had all tourney by which i mean when pressed they do not have the technical players in pivotal positions, support play from team mates and game plan to keep hold of the ball which would relieve the pressure we were under. Obviously Kane's lack of mobility meant our long ball was coming straight back at us, Walker and Rice not being comfortable on the ball under the pressure of a press means playing out from the back under pressure was unsuccessful. So Spain sent us packing, Southgate should have seen these problems ahead of time as they are not new issues and most people knew Spain would press high, hard and fast as they have done all tourney. Playing Toney from the start could have helped the long ball be more productive and playing Trent right back with his passing and composure might have helped playing out from the back. i said after the first 20 mins of our opening game to play Bellingham next to Rice and get on a left winger on to stretch the oppo's back 4-5 out to open the space between their defenders. Our manager was not brave nor did he show a capacity to learn and adapt, he should walk. I am not even going to mention Trippier at Lb LOL!!

WHY? LOL Sorry to the English fans arrogant and blind with your "is coming home" BUT when we think that English team will still be seen by some as the second team of this Euro... So actually the only talents so far of the English team “lucky losers”: 1- The chance to always be in recent years and tournaments (incredible at this point) in the weak part of the table with the strongest teams on the other side. And when the English finally meet a big team coming from the other strong side of the table, they lose... 2- Be very helped by the UEFA organization. See for example the previous Euro which took place for all the teams throughout Europe EXCEPT for the English who played ALL their matches except 1 at home, while favorite teams like France had to travel several hundred kilometers or even thousands between each match! After all, English Football is very rich and powerful in Europe and everything can be bought eh... 3- Being very helped by the refereeing, like the very generous penalty given to the English in the semi-final vs the Netherlands, when the referee could and even should have called a foul from Kane or a good hand visible (except for the referees and even the VAR) of an English player before. After all, English Football is very rich and powerful in Europe and everything can be bought, I say that again but I say nothing... The second team of this Euro (low level this year, all the players are exhausted by too long a season!), is not England but on the other stronger side of the table, Germany, or France despite being in this Euro at 70% of its usual strength, or Portugal or even Belgium, the Belgians did not dare to play vs France in 1/8 but I would have liked to see them vs England before the final... CONCLUSIONS FOR ME: - First as often, not always but often, the team that manages to eliminate the French Team Les Bleus, wins the tournament! ^^ - In this Euro it's the teams which dare their youngest talents which will have produced the best game and which with Spain will have won in the end! Incidentally the player who scores for the English in the final is also a young player. Their young, even very young, talents, in full possession of their health vs great veterans but burnt out and exhausted by too long and hard a season. The typical example was the French team at 70% maximum of its strenght with all these great veterans and main players (Mbappé, Griezmann, Giroud, etc...) exhausted and burnt out even before the start of the Euro or recently returning from a serious injury (Tchouaméni for example), and who did nothing during the Euro. Well until the semi-final lost vs Spain, future winner despite everything, many teams would already be very happy with that, but not us given how well below their level Les Bleus are in this Euro... Spain is the team that played the best game in this Euro, helped by its young talents in full physical health. Spain deserved to win.

Southgate said he was struggling with fitness - so why did he force it and persist with playing him. His mobility and effect on the pitch was shocking. That’ll be his, and Southgate’s, last tournament imo.

We gave the ball away far too much. Whether that's misplaced passes, Pickford launching it long or not playing out of the press properly. We need a proper 6 who wants the ball and is positionally aware to show for the GK or defenders against these top teams. Rice seems to have reverted to his 6 role in a West Ham team that didn't play possession based football. He plays better for Arsenal in the 8 role from what I've seen. Our press from the front line and the midfield was disjointed in the 4 at the back. Could've been the manager but I don't think Southgate would've told them to not press as a team, it's just backwards. I could be wrong but he's a qualified football manager and it's just not logical, and he keeps bringing up the press on what went wrong. Then again, he could've told them to play deep which would open spaces. I would've liked to see Wharton and Gordon experimented more in the group stages to see what they provided the team in different circumstances, and definitely Trent at right back. Of course, poor performance from the 3 Laurence mentioned and Kane offered almost nothing in the tournament which is very concerning. On the other hand, players like Guehi and Palmer have shown just how important they will be in future tournaments.

England in this tournament were described as a team that can find a way to win. Liverpool were many times described in the same way. Teams usually get described this way when they are not playing well. Liverpool did end becoming a second half at end of klopps reign. First halves became pointless to watch because they were conserving energy for the second half. And liverpool seemed to win too many games and finals on penalties . Southgate gave too much of an impression his team was playing for penalties. The standard of football was woeful and they were a terrible watch not just in this competition but previous ones as well. Only wanting to play attacking football when you are chasing a game is not a recipe for producing a good football team. You've got to have a higher standard of playing than the occasional ten minutes here and there. All teams need a bit of luck but eventually it will run out. Evidence those three headers in a row. If one of those had gone in and england drew level it would have hidden England's faults in the whole game.

Congratulations Spain, commiserations England. Fair play to De La Fuente. Was bashed by the Luis Enrique crowd but got Spain over the line first try balancing that possession dominant style with a more direct approach suited for cup teams 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 The margins were very close. That Dani Olmo clearance off the line is worth a goal in of itself. Looking forward to the Argentina Colombia game now to close out the day of finals. Thanks for the coverage as always Loz 👊🏿💜

people always try and justify their criticism but it's not really necessarily. Reviewing is way easier than doing, I can rightly realise that a book is bad, or a meal at a restaurant, that doesn't mean that I could be a professional author or chef. The problems with Southgate's england were plain for all to see, gotta go now.

Harry Kane is SELFISH for playing through injury. FFS we were essentially playing with 10 men all tournament. He also kept a player in Ollie Watkins who can run in behind and who had 32 goal contributions in the EPL on the bench. I also don't give a damn about Kane's 40+ goals with Bayern, considering the amount of quality service he has on his team and he is also playing in a weaker league than the premier league. He is the most overrated player of all time and has no silverware to show for it. Oftentimes, teams he has played for look better when he isn't playing. Ie. Spurs 2019 UCL campaign. If Southgate and Kane are out, England will be Champions in 2026. Also the fact that Jude Bellingham spent the majority of the match on the left handside does my absolute head in. Anthony Gordon was rotting on the bench all TOURNAMENT. Why was Southgate so reluctant to play Gordon. WHY did Phil Foden play a full 90 minutes when he was offering NOTHING ALL TOURNAMENT. How did Cole Palmer not get a single start in this tournament. Serious questions need to be asked and for the obvious favoritsm shown to certain players and the absolute waste of brilliant talents like Palmer, Gordon and Watkins who spent the majority of this tournament sitting on the sidelines when we were playing CRAP football.

My positive is that Trent was not on the field and the goals came from the right back slot and he's therefore not to blame at all. Plus, he's been training, but has not really played for a few weeks, so he should be back and in good form for Slot's first few months at Liverpool. I was 12 in 1990 and was happily cheering for England to win that WC semi, similarly in 1996. But England have always flattered to deceive and no manager has been fantastic (not always their fault) since Bobby Robson's 1990 team, although to be fair GS has been alright, however he's not used any Liverpool players to their best abilities, or has sent them back injured (Joe Gomez at least twice). I'm not too keen on England, it's the previous fan behaviour and arrogance, which is not there with the Welsh. I'm English born to English born parents, but my Grandmother was Welsh and with my name I've had so much stick growing up I've preferred to support the team I was getting stick for, rather than England. Last night England played well for about 15-20 minutes, Spain played well for about 50-100% longer and they cheated and fouled to an annoying level too, but they ultimately deserved to win significantly more than England. The problem is... potentially, at least, who would GS be replaced by? GP has not managed for some while, so who else could replace GS? You are right, HK is not the answer. GS should change his regular CF - IT is good, but probably too old for England. They need someone who will be the 1st choice for up to another decade.

Hi Laurance, just found your channel. I've been watching a lot of different videos on the final. I am sixty-six and I live in Ireland. I have been watching English football for close on sixty years. I remember watching the 1966 World Cup Final and I was delighted that England won. After all I was and still am a United fan. And a fan of the English Premier league and the lower leagues. I haven't been to OT since before covid and I doubt I will see it again. We are all armchair football pundits with our own opinions. Do you think that England would have done better with two fast players up front? I'm thinking of Watkins and Toney. I can't blame Harry Kane or anyone else either. But Kane is what I consider to be an "old fashioned " striker. It's not rocket science but a player like Kane needs crosses from wingers and/ or attacking wing backs. Unfortunately this didn't happen so that's why I asked about Watkins and Toney. Southgate is a genuinely nice guy and his contribution to English football shouldn't be forgotten. He took England to two Euro finals and a World Cup semi final. That's no mean feat. I firmly believe that another huge burden on the players is the media driven hype. A lot of the fans and even some of the players fall for it. The expectation that England are going to win every tournament is not helpful. I saw a few post match interviews and the hype is still there. People saying that England will definitely win the next World Cup! There's only one definite in life and that's death. I totally get the national pride and the hope. Of course you want your country to win. The Premier league is the best watch by a mile. Thank you for your uploads, I am going to binge watch your other videos.

The fact that Southgate had Bowen, Gordon, Palmer, Watkins and Toney on the bench and he still uses them sparingly shows you just how much he loves to pick (his) favorites. If he's still not sacked after this then the FA really are a bunch of clowns and England as a footballing nation is cooked. But it's more entertainment for me, because I always love me some sweet English tears whenever they crash out of a tournament! *IT WILL NEVER EVER COME HOME!* 😂

yes we need a Manager who can take us to the next & final level, but until we find a 6 and a keeper that can take care of the ball and release our other players we won't win anything. Pickford's distribution is championship level and Rice is no 6.

They commanded the game especially in midfield the entire first half. Kane was deep, out of position and actually slowed played down when we needed to be slick and move with pace. He was playing in the Foden and Bellingham role playing passes to no one because he should have been upfront and on the end of the plays he was attempting to make. When we scored they were briefly lost, we had momentum and our only genuine chance. What did we do, sit back, let them dominate possession, regain composure and ultimately hand back the control to them. It led to their goal. Walker went missing in the second half, they got through constantly on his watch. Our defense was knackered by the end. Why because Gareth’s tactics lead them to have to do a lot to overwork. They had very little left in the tank by 80 minutes. Gareth expects miracles of our midfield and attack when they are often marked in numbers and isolated due to our desire to have 7 players behind the ball at all times. The subs were good but desperate. The long ball tactic was desperate, Gareth has one tactic for six years and still has no plan B, never has, never will it seems. The quality of the players was bailing him out. Today it wasn’t remotely enough. I hate how we play like underdogs when we have a team full of domestic winners and actual quality. Time for Southgate to go but bring in someone with a history of winning trophies and add that into this talent pool and maybe we can get over the line with these generational talents

For me it's obvious Southgate is far to negative with this group of players he has. We allways hear kyle walker is the best right back but clearly after this tournament we can clearly see he isn't he made so many mistakes through the hole tournament and offered very little going forward. Pickfords distribution is poor. Kane can't run and is far to deep foden isn't a winger definitely played better in the hole but again to close to kane who is basically playing as central midfielders, so like playing 4 6 0. He isn't a manager that goes for the game even I could see shaw was shattered and the midfield wasn't working he should have changed them 10 mins be4 he went to. Then they scored there 2nd, and he reacted with tony. Gordon couldn't get on the field yet would have offered different things to foden, trent couldn't get in at right back even when walker was defending as poor as any right back I've seen but trent would have offered more going forward. He just has no bottle to change away from the starting 11 we have 5 subs and he don't like to use them might aswell have taken 11 players

Every single England kick off was an NFL kick off. I'm not joking, every kick off England had, no exceptions. The highest paid manager at the tournament had his team (pre-tournament betting favourites) doing NFL kick offs. He is not a competent manager. He should start a business hosting team-bonding/team-building retreats and forget about football management. It's not for him. I would urge anybody to go and look at the kick offs (all full replays are available on iPlayer) and tell me this is the product of a competent manager. Embarrassing.
