Why Genesis Is The Most Misunderstood Luxury Car. Genesis is the new luxury division of Hyundai. They make arguably some of the greatest modern day cars yet, some still doubt them. This has led me to believe that Genesis is the most misunderstood car manufacturer in the industry. I primarily suspect this due to the fact that the brand prestige hasn't had the time to mature yet. Leave your thoughts on Genesis down in the comment section below.

I'd love to drive a G70 since all the automotive reviewers say it's an even more sport purposed, smaller Stinger. It sucks how uh... messy (?) Genesis has been with getting their products to dealerships. I have yet to see a G70 on the road assuming they're out yet 😂 I don't think I'm going to be able to go back to a typical sedan though. I prefer sport-back lift gates a TON more both in practicality and exterior styling. I might try leasing the Arteon next and see what an entry level German car feels like

after spending nearly 6 months researching and test driving 4 door luxury performance models from all the Japanese, German, and Korean manufacturers I ended up narrowing it down to three cars. The Kia Stinger, The Genesis G70, and the Infiniti Q50. I would have been happy with any of them but I ended up getting a G70 with the 3.3. I absolutely love the car. It's fast, looks great, drives great, and all at what I'd consider a bargain price compared to what you'd pay for a comparable car from BMW, Audi, Mercedes, or Lexus.

Hey Kevin, appreciate you keeping it real. You weren't probably alive way back in 1989, but I was. The same (& lame) comments were made by naysayers regarding the emergence of the Lexus nameplate. Well Kevin, I'm here to say, let them suck it, because to the german car fanboys (of which I used to be one of but now rehabilitated), Japanese and Korean luxury automakers are bringing game and are here to stay. It takes courage Kevin to take a stand and hold that position. Also, supremely profound when you stated, "Blind acceptance of brand names has created an environment of mediocrity", take care, Ravi Peiris M.D.

After 2 years in a 2017 Mazda Miata, I traded back to a Genesis -- this time a 3 year old lease return 2016 AWD. $27,000 for a certified pre-owned luxury sedan with 18K miles. Great analysis Kevin! You should check out what Genesis does in Canada. They got it all figured out here. First, there are no dealers. If you want to test drive one, you just call them and they will bring you the model you're interested in at your house or office. If you want to see some variety, there are some high end looking boutiques (a bit like Tesla stores) in crowded malls. If you DO decide to buy one, you get 5 years of free maintenance and concierge services. They bring your car home in an LED lit glass box/container so that every one of your neighbors or colleagues check out your new Genesis! You should watch the Straightpipe's video on it. I mean, talk about great advertisement! Heck if I were an uncultured swine and a brand whore and I just watched my neighbor receiving his luxury sedan at home like that, i'd surely start looking into the brand at least! Lastly, during those 5 years of free maintenance, they will of course come to your home/office to pick up your car for servicing and they will lend you another Genesis during that time. Oh and also, their lease deals on the G70 (at least) are hundreds of $ less per month than any of its rivals, including the Stinger. If that's not luxury done right, I don't know what is.

I believe that Hyundai and Kia have taken automotive quality to the next level. Not only do they build quality into their vehicles, but they take car of customers after the sale. You just have to respect car companies that actually care about the products they design and build . Hyundai and Kia have accomplished this goal. They stand behind their products and if there is a problem, they correct it. You really can't ask for much more from a car manufacturer. The gas mileage I get with the HTRAC awd is AMAZING to me any way haha I average 22-23mpg some what pounding it on a city drive in ECO mode which I think is the best mode for this car. I haven’t done too many highway miles so can’t comment there but I’m sure it’ll do like 27-28 mpg highway. Another great video Kevin! I agree with you about brand cache. This capitalist society we live in psychologically rewards those in German & British vehicles. My first car was a ‘79 Datsun 280ZX. I also loved VW products like the Sirocco & Corrado, but the interior quality sucked compared to the Datsun, hence the Z. I have the advantage of age & outgrowing the need for a particular badge. I love the Genesis & my choice would be a CPO’d G80 V8. I used to detail cars & had a client with a 1st Bangle designed 7 series. The quality of the switch gear left a lot to be desired from a car of that price point. Paint was falling off, knobs were tiny, some controls were awkward. I was underwhelmed. Frankly I’m exhausted by the criticisms of Kia/Hyundai products, but just as you can’t fix stupid, sometimes you can’t open minds. In the price point I think they build a good car. They also forced Honda, VW & Toyota to start offering higher feature content. I love your G80 & your videos. Keep up the great work!

I just moved from a 2012 Hyundai Azera that I really enjoyed for 6 years to a very low mileage (29K) 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 AWD (= G80 model). I love it. The car is fully loaded with all 3 packages - Signature, Technology, and Ultimate. Rides great, all the luxury bells and whistles as well as all the safety features. it was $52K+ new and only 25K used. Had my expert mechanic friend check it out... super clean inside and out and underneath. Should a joy to drive for the next 5 years or so.

G80's appear to be a good value for the money, but a little too large for my taste. I prefer something a little more nimble without sacrificing power/performance. Many yrs ago I drove my bosses Audi S4 and let me tell you what a rocket-pocket that machine was!!!! I don't know what it is about Audi's (Quatro wheel drive might be the explanation) but their handling is precise & if you can get the "S" power than you will be a loyal Audi customer for life, I can assure you!!

Kevin, I responded to your M240i review earlier; not sure which one of you responded back. Want to hear something funny? My two next vehicle purchase choices were either the M240i or the G80. Not in the same class, right? My choices were based on best quality/bang for the buck for the money. I saw the G80 at an auto show and was also blown away by the quality. Well, I got the M240 and no regrets - but every time I see a G80 on the road I know I’m witnessing pitifully-underrated automotive greatness.

Hello Joe yes I do remember it was me Kevin who responded to you. Congratulations on your purchase sir and yes I totally understand we don't always cross shop with cars that necessarily compete. For me the M240 rode kind of rough but man the instant power and torque from the inline 6 turbo with amazing shifting speeds made the M240 a rocketship. Also the chassis control was amazing. It really comes down to personal preference because of the lack of nice roads and ridiculous amount of cops in my area, the G80 just fit my needs better. I'm sure you would still enjoy and appreciate it but your car is very cool and I appreciate you watching my friend.

To be honest, the warranty on these Hyundai/Kia/Genesis cars speaks volumes. Let other brands commit to 10years warranty and let's see how much they will sell for and whether or not they will hold up that "quality through the 10 year period" I love the Genesis brand and will take it over Mercedes and BMW. The reason is simple. I can have a care of same quality at much less. Check how much any of those "big brands will lose in value in 3-5year and how costly it is to service as compared to the Genesis cars. G70 in my 2018 car of the year

Having sold Hyundai from 2003-2006, you could see this value equation in the then new 2006 Sonata. Especially with the 3.3 liter V-6. Hyundai admitted to copying the Audi A6 and this generation Sonata had very high quality. Mine was a 4-cylinder, one of the first made in the US, and it was a great car, still running today with 135,000 miles on it. Then, as Genesis came along the quality of the Hyundai Sonata seemed to lessen, especially the 2015 with its cheapened interior. So today, a used G80 is a good alternative to a new Sonata , where the reliability of the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine is in question. As for the Sonata turbo, forget it. It is also interesting to note that most of the G80s for sale on Carvana are the "base" models, so there is no sunroof to worry about.

To me like you said towards the end of the video is not the cars themselves. The car is amazing. There problem is there horrible dealership networks. Purchasing a luxury vehicle at a Hyundai dealer is terrible. No loaner vehicles because of low inventory. Lack of knowledge with Hyundai sales staff on what the genesis brand even offers. I could go on and on. Genesis truly dropped the ball last year because of this. And even the best vehicles in the world will fail with such a bad dealership experience.

Exhaust Sports Auto I heard that people hate Hyundai back then in 80s when their car was considered a cheap appliance and not reliable. However, their quality is improving from 2003. They only know about Hyundai/Kia as car manufacturer. Instead, they sells a lot of stuffs rather than only car. They are 3rd largest auto manufacturer in the world. Someone people doesn’t know that. They keep thinking Hyundai cars are cheap because of low quality. Even in my family, no one think why I get a Hyundai. Majorities of them have Toyota, Honda. I think Hyundai offer thing that other manufacturer is lacking. In fact, they offer value and affordable to market. That is why I saw a lot of competitor such as Honda and Toyota have to improve their car to step up the game. Otherwise, they will be leaved behind by Hyundai. As Hyundai/Kia is improving, they will gain the trust from customer. Repeat customer will be the key for their success. I currently owned 2 Hyundai cars, my next car is still Hyundai if they are keep improving product.

Especially since the BMW was too firm for long road trips while the Genesis has been perfect. I’ve driven across the USA and into Canada. I also have a Mercedes E-class. The only thing it’s better at compared to the Genesis is if I want to drive at 120mph, all day, every day. That won’t happen. Badge whores are a problem. That’s also how Toyota doubles the price of a Camry and sells a ton of them by rebadging as Lexus ES. Even Toyota itself sells on badge cachet, really - I never liked their overpriced under engineered garbage, especially when I can get the same kind of reliability on a more competitively priced Honda, Mazda, or yes, Hyundai. All valid points my friend it’s not perfect in the states either, it’s so messed up they don’t know where to send what, my local dealers don’t even have a G70 and I know a gentleman who’s interested in buying and now he can’t because they’re still not here. But it’s crazy they don’t sell the G90 there at all. They def do need to fix this ASAP because like you said, people will react by buying what’s available. But I thank you for stopping by and I do wish you an amazing 2019

@@MeynMotorGroup You have a fantastic New Year Too! And yeah mate they need to get their finger out in both countries it seems like, as they have some amazing cars but we can't get our greasy mitts on them, I'm also waiting with baited breathe for the day they make a ute or what you guys call a pickup over there, to take on the likes of Ford Ranger Toyota Hilux/Tacoma, ETC so we can get a reliable and value for money ute.

Haha yea truck would be cool from Hyundai especially if Honda can do it, and I’m sure it will be popular due to their strong warranty. Thanks again for your support!

Yea I feel like I don’t hear about it as much now tho I’m sure people are still head over heels for it but this is kind of how they got their popularity in the first place by people talking about it

They made a mistake in my opinion when they split the two brands. What's so appealing about Genesis is the buying experience is the same as buying a Hyundai when you negotiate the price.

Hey Allie thanks so much for stopping by again. But the splitting of the brands is what people wanted. People wanted them to split from the start so Genesis would be what Lexus IS to Toyota. If they had done so 10 years ago, Genesis would have the brand recognition of at least being around for a decade instead now they just formed in 2017. People don’t want the buying experience of a Hyundai. But me, I just want them to get the cars in the first place on dealer lots lol. Thanks again for your support I hope you have An amazing 2019
