You failed to mention the fierce competition between lions over prides. Males frequently battle each other for control of a pride, similar to how kingdoms invade each other.

That's a myth. They barely ever fight. No animal fights nearly as much as people think, besides domestic animals that were bred and trained to be fighting animals, like dogs. Tigers and lions actually fight as often as one another.

@@peterroberts7684 Since they have lions in Asia...and they are generally smaller and less impressive than their African counterparts...isn't it fair to assume that they simply aren't the apex predator in Asia, because the tiger lives there? Aren't the differences between Asiatic and African lions primarily the result of one group being the biggest land predators on their respective continent...and the other NOT??? So many of the physical distinctions between the Asiatic lion and African lion would seem to be attributable to the Africans simply having a LOT better supply of meat... I would think that this would indicate something about who has the competitive edge, if one chooses to look at it that way...Personally, I think that an impressive male African lion and a Bengal or Siberian tiger are just about the two most impressive things on the planet...WHICHEVER you happen to prefer....they're BOTH magnificent animals...

When I was a kid, even on cartoons, books, and other folklore, it was always said and understood that the Lion is "The King of The Beasts", and the Tiger is "The King of The Jungle". However, over the years, people got lazy in their distinctions, so the Beasts part wasn't said as much. Hell even Bugs Bunny said King of The Beasts in an episode with a Lion. So, it's really more about a favoritism thing more than just realistic terminology. Just as it's "Lionheart" or "Heart of a Lion" & "The Eye of the Tiger". Lions are fighters who can kill. Tigers are killers who can fight.

I think the main thing, in denoting the lion as king of the jungle, is his mane: it's the mane, mimicking a crown & placing him apart from all other animals, feline or otherwise. The ancients weren't that concerned with comparing the kill rate or stealthiness of one big cat against another. If that were the case, tigers might well have prevailed, as in fact they often did in one on one combat against lions. What the ancients saw, I'm convinced, was a crowned king (the abundantly maned male) being crowned the king of beasts, not only for his ferocity , but above all because he naturally carried the crown around his ample neck.

Fun fact is that animals such as deers don't see the orange color of a tiger that we see. The orange color appears green for a deer. That's why a tiger is so hard to spot for them.. If course their stealthy way of hunting as well but they don't see tigers the way we see them in full beauty

Shorty answer: Lion has an kingdom to rule, Tiger's are solo assassins. Medium answer: Both of them are the biggest predators on land, but since the Lions stays in packs (pride), with 1 alpha male and his "bro's" + other 10+ Lionesses, for example, the Lion is theyr king. Tigers are solo assassins In a fight 1vs1, the tiger has better chance to win the fight, since he is stronger. Hunting for his own food every time, not depending on Lionesses to hunt for the food in most of the time, Tigers grew stronger. Long answer: look at the video. :))

Tiger is called emperor in its native countries, which means king of kings. Infact the markings on tiger's forehead resemble Chinese character for ruler and in India tiger is the ride of most powerful goddess.

The lion is the King of beasts. The jungle was mentioned so that others know that the tigers domain is under the Lions' jurisdiction. The locals call it emperor because they are getting eaten by them, they themselves know the Lion is King. Nothing of this world is the king of kings.

Jungles don't provide enough prey for a lion pride so they may have past through some jungles in the past, but they never really did live in them. They didn't live throughout Asia either. Only in parts of it. They did live in some middle eastern countries at one point but we all know there isn't any jungles in them. Like I said, there wasn't enough of larger prey animals that a lion pride needed to survive in jungles.

@@t74guard78 Not really the case, the lions in africa form group because they face many competitors that also form big group there, the african enviroment just prefer the group playstyle, while the cat family by nature are solitary animal, lions that once live in Asia and europe likely live alone like other big cat, but they slowly disappear due to their inability to compete with superior predator like tiger, bear and of course human.

😂😂😂 False. Tigers fighting with both paws on hind legs makes it impossible to generate power, so they throw little flurries. Lions fight as a lifestyle, lions have to compete to takeover prides and protect them. Lions fight from day 1. Tigers have a high fat percentage. Lions have denser bones, more muscle percentage, you can see more muscle striations on lions, you see looser more saggy skin on Tigers due to cold climate. Tigers are timid by nature. Iions are dominant

The irony is, it’s actually proven the Tiger is king of the jungle. People often forget - Lions don’t only live in Africa. There is also a population of them in the Gir Forest in India. Within this very jungle, there is an apex predator, an animal top of the food chain, feared by all the other animals that live there. And this isn’t the Lion. It’s the Royal Bengal Tiger.

Actually the Elephant is the real king of the Savanna and Jungle because They are the largest land mammals and that due to their sheer size they have no natural predators and also Elephants are more intelligent than lions and tigers plus Elephants plus lions cannot defeat an elephant unless if it's a calf or a sick adult. Because of their large size, elephants have a huge impact on their environments and are considered keystone species. Their habit of uprooting trees and undergrowth can transform savannah into grasslands; smaller herbivores can access trees mowed down by elephants. When they dig for water during drought, they create waterholes that can be used by other animals. When they use waterholes, they end up making them bigger. At Mount Elgon, elephants dig through caves and pave the way for ungulates, hyraxes, bats, birds and insects. Elephants are important seed dispersers; African forest elephants consume and deposit many seeds over great distances, with either no effect or a positive effect on germination. In Asian forests, large seeds require giant herbivores like elephants and rhinoceros for transport and dispersal. This ecological niche cannot be filled by the smaller Malayan tapir. Because most of the food elephants eat goes undigested, their dung can provide food for other animals, such as dung beetles and monkeys. So yeah like a said the Elephant is the real king of the savanna and jungle.

They are referring to carnivores, not all animals. Elephants are incredible animals and yes highly intelligent. They even understand what death is and mourn their dead. You can even say they are self aware which can only be said of a few animals out there. Sure elephants are king of all land animals because of their size and intelligence. But this is about who is king of the carnivores therefore the elephant is not king of either the savanna or jungle. Different conversation. Try to stay within the scope of the video.

He said the Lion has numerous other preditors to compete with, some of which will actually steal its kills , then in the next point said it had no direct competition. Also, never cover the Tiger in this aspect at all, which arguable has far fewer compedators that can rival it within its environment.

I also love lions, but tigers are my favourite when comparing these two. Lions and tigers both are magnificent creatures to me, but from the very beginning of this lion vs tiger debate, each animal has been hated and called names by fans of tigers or lions.. I'm not saying that lions fight with other lions very often in fact they rarely hunt. So how can we depict that they have a lot of competition going on...

They're Apex predators meaning they can't be hunted or preyed upon. But lions live in a more competitive environment naturally increasing competition. Hyenas steal in huge numbers, besides this there's no real rival.

Male lions from a young age have to battle for territory and mating rights so they are battle hardend. Tigers generally avoid confrontation from other Tigers. Also the lions mane gives them huge protection so they are harder to kill. Having said that male tigers are larger stronger and more agile. In a fight they can use both arms where lions can only use one. Male Tigers are also better hunters than make lions

Lions have a historic range that included many part of the African rainforest. There was a lone lion spotted in the rainforest of Gabon a couple years back. So they may not have been there in large numbers like the savanna. However there were lions that inhabited the pre colonial rainforest of Africa

The term "King of the Jungle" was just coined because Africa was known as a "jungle" in general. Lions live in Africa and the land is so vast and diverse, but lions typically don't live in the jungle areas but the savannah. Tigers don't necessarily live exclusively in a jungle either, the Siberian tiger actually lives in the forest. The actual king of the jungle should go to the Jaguar that actually lives in the jungle. Lions don't live in jungles. They live in the savannah. Tigers are the kings of the jungle, while lions are of the savannah. Lions don't even blend in with a jungle, but it does for a tiger and vice versa in the savannah. A lion's advantage is that it's not a loner like a tiger. Tigers don't have prides, but the females typically raise their kids without their mates.

The male Siberian Tiger will kick a male African Lion's ass every time. On average, they outweigh the lions by over 150 lb (650 lb vs 500 lb). You neglected to mention tigers have a more evolved fighting style. They go upright & strike w/ BOTH forepaws simultaneously. Lions don't. They strike w/ ONE paw while bracing w/ the other. You also forgot to mention the Chinese depict the Tiger as the Yin/Yang opposite of the Dragon. Equal in power. They have plenty of lion statues, but lions didn't "rate" to face off against dragons.

Also, jungles not only have animals, but poisonous spiders, frogs, bugs, and even plants exist in the jungles. Mosquitos can be deadly too. So yes, jungles are rougher and way more dangerous than savannahs.

We have also heard about an incident in Ankara zoo in Turkey where a tiger somehow find his way into lion enclosure and kill the lion with a paw strike so my brother always make sure to keep them as far away as possible so that the tigers don't slaughter the lions.

Humanity has much more familiarity with lions because of how widespread they were, specifically the fact they were in Europe. They were easier to come by and study, and still are because of the natural environment they live in being easier for humans to traverse. We also noted how similar their social structure was to our early human ancestors. They were also easier to transport to menageries and stadiums because we could locate them, which is why there were more of them in the colosseum than tigers. Lions, tigers, bears, and a number of other animals are depicted as the kings of their land or the king of beasts depending on the culture. The fact that we still state that lions are the king is a remnant of our western familiarity with them. Both of them are beautiful and deadly, and definitely worthy of the title.

Exactly!!! Europe is close to Africa therefore the statues are mostly of lions. In Asia, they are of tigers and in South America they are of jaguars. I have to laugh at those who use statues as a means of saying lions are better than tigers. Some have even said the lion is mentioned in the bible and tigers are not. Well who wrote the bible and where did they live? Very near lions and knew them pretty well. They probably had no idea that tigers even existed or knew very little about them. Another thing those idiots didn't realize. I have been reading and watching things on big cats and bears since the early 70's, As far as the coliseum goes, I have read at best guess around 30 different sources. All indicated that when the two were made to fight each other, the tiger generally won. Something like 86% of the time. I got that from reading somewhere that around 1,900 fights between the two were staged and the lion won 263 of them. That works out to be 14% of the time. Most sources didn't say anything about numbers of fights, just a few did but they all did say the tiger won most of the time. Some said they were most Barbary lions against Bengal and Caspian tigers. Recently I read something about this was the start of the Barbary lion going extinct. Never thought of that over the years but it did make sense. So many were being captured and taken to Rome only to be slaughtered by tigers.

In ancient times, when lions could be found in Asia, the Persians and mesopotamians still considered it king (rather than the tiger). Why? It's because tigers (though stronger and bigger), were always solitary and could therefore be sent running by a pride of lions. Whoever was the king of the pride, was therefore the king of the whole ecosystem.

One characteristic of a male lion is its ability to never back down in a fight! Basically you have to kill it because it would keep coming! On the other hand a tiger tends to retreat from a fight! The world renowned big cat trainer, Beaty, who trained over 400 big cats stated that male lions by nature very dominant with their intimidating mane and exceptionally aggressive and ferocious in battles makes them a formidable foe!!

That's because tigers are more reasonable than lions. Tigers usually avoid fighting unless they must while lions love to fight. However tigers are known to be very vengeful creatures.

Tigers are LITERALLY the king of the jungle since lions don't even live in a jungle. lol Beyond that, a 1v1 between a lion and tiger....the tiger has a lion outmatched in every way possible. They're bigger, stronger, faster, bigger claws, smarter, more agile, etc. If you ask me, the only reason why people call a lion the "king" is because of its mane, giving it a regal appearance. And their pride as their "subjects" only enhance the idea. Basically if you gave a tiger a lions mane and a harem, there is absolutely no way a lion would be considered anything special.

Just ask the people who live with the animals. It's the king of the jungle bcoz when it has a territory the male lion will walk his territory every day at sunset and roar to announce its presence. It will not hide and ambush you. It let's you know it's around. That's what our African tradition has taught us.

Simple, Lions rule prides (kingdoms). They are constantly at war with eachother and other species of animals. The term jungle doesn't actually refer to the biome, but rather the unruly wilds. A kingdom of lions would overtake any tiger any day.

hahahahah it was started by Disney when they were promoting a movie. The Roman empire didn't start it. I have been reading and watching things on big cats and bears since the early 70's. I have read many, many different sources of what went on in the coliseum. They were many fights between tigers and lions and tigers generally won those fights. All the sources I have read and seen say the same thing. Tigers won most of those fights. The romans never went far enough east to come across Siberian tigers so they were never used in those fights. Mostly Barbary lions fought against Bengal and Caspian tigers and again, got their asses kicked. So why would the Romans call the lion that? Also the Romans knew nothing of the large bears in the Americas or like I said, the Siberian tiger, the largest and strongest cat in the world.

I don't understand why we having this competition in the first place, because a lion would most certainly wants to a king unlike a tiger. In the word of a tiger there's no concept of king, he/she is everything. A Tiger doesn't care about being the king of the jungle.

The Lion is known as the King of the Jungle, although they neither live in the Jungle, but the Savannah, nor are they stronger than the Tiger, which actually lives in the Jungle. But Lions live in Africa, sometimes even wandered into and lived in southern Europe, so they were known. Tigers live in India, and could only be discovered by Europeans once they made it there. Tigers simply weren't around that much, much less known and therefor much less feared and revered. Also lions look more majestic and royal with their mane, therefor nobles identified with them. Also lions have a kings court/harem round them, while tigers are loners. Lions just have better marketing overall.
