It’s such an interesting time we live in now as there is no such thing as a bad camera and the poor photographer can pick up a pro level camera second or third hand for a fraction of the cost it originally was and these camera compete with the latest very well! However I must add that without knowledge, skill and practice even a rich photographer with all the gear won’t get a shot as good as someone who has taken the time to learn and develop their eye and skills !!

Hi Darren, I 100% agree. You even don't need to buy new gear, there is a second hand market for excellent cameras and lenses. Thank you for adding this 😊 And in the end, it is the photographer who takes the shot, of course. Nice greetings, Christian

Great job on the video Christian. I think you and I both agree that it’s not the camera but the photographer who takes the great photo. Sometimes the latest and greatest doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best. I think it doesn’t matter whether you’re rich or poor - it’s the person who goes the extra mile to get the shot or practices the most, that in the long run ends up the better photographer

Hi Adrian, yes, absolutely. Especially when it comes down to learn photography and even to improve. On the other hand, gear can make life as a photographer easier, of course. So, it is definitely good that there is a big variety in lenses, filters, tripods, etc. So that everyone can buy whatever works best for his requirements 🙂 Thanks a lot for watching, my friend! Have a great weekend, Christian

Yes, it is very much true that having the least options will make you better in creativity rather than having too many options.

I use an old Canon 550d with an ef 24.105 ulm, and I don't have the means to change it, it's true that I don't have the opportunity to dream of better so I concentrate on the essentials. I force myself to go out once a week, I look for the right lights and I enjoy making do with what I have. In addition, the camera's battery is low, so that forces me not to take photos, anything and everything, and my memory card is very small.

Hi Jean, that is fantastic, you do definitely everything right here! That's the way how to get great photos. Better than having the most expensive gear in the shelf, which gets never used 😊 Limitations can be a fantastic driver. Thank you for your contribution and nice greetings, Christian

I totally agree with you. I'm not rich but also not poor. But I did find out that there was more to improve to myself then to my gear. I realy embraced my local area and started to understand the weather system. And like you said I am realy into light these days. The only thing I look for is light and atmospheric conditions like fog. People on my channel even started calling me the fog men 😅 my advice would be that it's better to invest in moments instead of gear. Great video! Grt guido

Hi Guido, oh yes, fog is so nice, isn't it? Unfortunately, we usually don't get all too much of fog in the area I live. That's maybe also one of the reasons why I developed my weather alert system 😆 And yes, absolutely: better to invest into moments. That's nice said. Thanks a lot for your kind comment, my friend 😉 Nice greetings, Christian

I have one camera, a nikon coolpix p900, it doesn't even shoot raw... for me i do photography just as a hobby, but i learned all the ways to make the photos i want to take. for example, since it doesn't do raw, I usually go with brackets and then merge in hdr, and have to always try to get it right in camera. there's a quote about creativity coming from limitations... so yeah

Hi Bruno, that's a fantastic tip with bracketing jpg's when the camera doesn't support raw, thanks a lot for adding this here, my friend! Yes, limitation can definitely boost creativity 🙂 Enjoy your weekend, Christian

After a hiatus of decades I decided to get back into photography when I took a trip to Thailand about a decade ago. The camera I went with was a Nikon Coolpix 450 that cost me about $300.00. I’ve since moved up to far more sophisticated equipment, but the truth is that some photos that still remain amongst my favorites were taken on that trip.

Hi Michael, yes, creativity can definitely thrive on restrictions. I meant that and the fact that many photographers get distracted by gear 🙂 Thanks a lot for watching and nice greetings, Christian

Seems to be varying degrees of financial waste Landscape photographers are looking for as many Mpix as possible and upgrade to MF Bird photographers search for the best digital camera with autofocus and the best long telephoto lens, which they update as better equipment comes along, they may also jump between different manufacturers often Art photographers go for luxury brands and many Mpix in the sensors Street photographers seem to think like art photographers Animal photographers I guess are like bird photographers. Many photographers I deal with jump around between different software manufacturers to get that extra. Personally, I have problems when I have to make major updates to a camera system after the camera that I'm using has stopped working and then it's mostly updating the lens that gets out of hand.. I prefer to use the same camera so I learn it properly with a only one lens for a long time.

Hi Thomas, there are definitely special cases when more expensive gear makes a big difference, as it is for autofocus for wildlife photography, fast lenses for astro photography, etc. As landscape photographers we have the big advantage that we can take amazing photographs even with the "cheapest" gear out there 🙂 Great idea to use just one lens from time to time, by the way. That can really boost creativity! Thanks a lot for your kind comment, my friend 😉 Nice greetings, Christian

The "poor" photographers are better because they upgrade their vision first and upgrade their vision again before they buy gear and they are the rule breakers too because they take images instinctively. If photography chooses the person, not the other way around, those photographers will take much better images every time, it doesn't matter if they are poor or rich.
@christian.irmler
@christian.irmler 6 ай бұрын
Hi Bela, thank you for your contribution! Yes, I see it like that: working on the vision is key. And of course, it doesn't really matter if the photographer is rich or poor; if he focuses on the right things, he will succeed 😊 Enjoy your Sunday, Christian

Expensive gear is very relative. How much expensive the moto is or other thing which people buy. And no body asks the question... Maybe sometime we are in the syndrome of: "the shoemaker has the worst shoes". And I say: yes, buy the good and expensive gear. Do not be like this shoemaker 😉
@christian.irmler
@christian.irmler 6 ай бұрын
Hi Marek, I have to admit: I also own all the expensive stuff 😉 There are definitely advantages and I don't want to miss many of them. But I hear photographers often say, they would be better photographers if they would be able to afford more expensive gear. But would that be the case? 🙂 Have a great weekend, Christian

@@christian.irmler yes, you are right. Nowadays I see some ones who buy top pro level camera and ask on social networks so basic questions. We don't even go to user camera manual to know the answer. And yes, there is really a problem! Average tool in competent's hands do way better result that top gear in hands with no knowledge. It's very sad when they blame a tool, factory or even the mark about poor inutilisable autofocus etc and want to return camera. You can create video when you get basic camera Sony a6000 (200€) in secondhand with cheap optic and create photo when you walk. You can get side by your Sony a7R5 or something which you use normally. Only take another photo at the almost same time and show the result. 😉 Many of peoples will be surprised! (Excuse me my English)
