Thats why we need older women ...society kept on erasing older women , devaluing them , mocking them , portraying them as villians , cast them into singluar roles of mother and grand mother ...but in reality ..young women need older women to reveal the truth of the patriarcy

Yep it’s hilarious how my whole life I heard that women become invisible once they hit 30, I am 50 and I wear a band on my ring finger so that men will stop talking to me in public. I’m sick of getting approached when I’m just trying to pump my gas or go to the doctors. So THANK YOU for this perspective, I’m going to stop wishing that I was invisible and I’m going to start making sure that younger women know how happy I am traveling through the world as a single child free middle-aged woman. Legit, people my age don’t believe me that I’m happy single which is part of why I wear the fake wedding ring. No sir, it’s not a cope when I say I love my life. I love my life and I am unavailable to men and if I have to pretend to be married so be it. As a pleasant side effect I have noticed that boomer women who are still in their jobs are kinder to me. It’s possible the lady at the Townhall was just having a bad day every single time I registered my car in the past four years except for this year when I had a wedding ring on, but I kind of doubt it. I also wanted to add that I feel so terrible I remember being in my 20s and my friends mom trying to teach me about men and I would listen to her and I would nod, but in the back of my mind I seriously was thinking that she was just trying to discourage me because she was upset she wasn’t dating anymore. I think part of my judgment was because she had been a huge pick me during my whole childhood, and teenage years. And I didn’t realize that her experience with men had changed her views and she was correct.

Recently in my country (Indonesia), there occured a murd3r-attempted sshmooicide case. A father ended the lives of his 4 (yes, four!) children, the youngest is 1 y.o. The mom was not there because she was hospitalized from being DV-ed by the father. This man was unemployed, DV his wife, then murd3r his own kids and then attempted to end his own life. This is what could happen when you choose wrong. The risks are just to damn great (literally end your/your kids' lives) whereas the reward is only...what? Getting a somewhat decent guy? But then you still need to watch out that he is an equal partner, would not emotionally abuse you, etc. Too much work for too little pay, no thanks.

I am 40, and would like to share my experience for 2023 w getting to know men, and trying to get back on the dating scene. I have entertained 3 men nothing sxual but opened the door to conversation. All 3 bm attempted to turn the convo into a therapy session. Divulging way too much information, deep hurts, disappointments and wounds. Men new to me, new to my life, new to talking on the phone. Using it as an opportunity to pour out their voids on me. It became clear that a lot of men simply aren't doing the inner work/self healing to match us where we are intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally. The way these grown men >>>45+ went on and on about their pain shows me they aren't facing their hurts AT ALL. They come to the situation expecting you to hold space and do emotional labor with them. It also, little by little, makes me feel a bit more comfortable with the prospect of being single for the rest of my life. Sadly, i'm 30. I chose divestment before it was a movement. I have experienced double standards, a restrictment of my voice, constant game playing, lies everywhere, etc and I use to say why deal with this? So I pulled back from men a long time ago. I am not against them, or hate them. I realized men and male centered Women assumed my hatred. But men hate themselves and male centered Women are constantly bashing men, but their actions are socially acceptable as long as the male ego is intact. Men don't like each other, but want Women to tolerate the brutality. Make it make sense🙄 I sat in on a group, with ALL Women. The one thing we had in common was our marginalization within Patriarchy. Every Woman had a story. It appeared the Women just took the brutality as is. However, I looked around and thought if we, as Women, could only stick together. Now, we are in this divesting movement. Women are tired of the abuse, the pain, the lies, the blatant hatred and refuse to tolerate those behaviors as something we have to deal with as Women. I like what Sharon Stone stated, men and Women are at two different places emotionally. I have seen Women with rights, reproductive rights, but marriage was always the consideration,.. the foundation. Men have always treated Women like we have to tolerate abusive behaviors. Never evolved and never changed. Men never took global responsibility for our experienced abuses. So, I think the divestment movement have less to do with our rights. It's a part of it, yes, but males brutality toward Women have not changed. Women, over the years, have always accommodated men. Men never accommodated Women. Men refused to take basic accountability for their treatment of us. In the past, I have heard some Women talk about pulling back our resources. I was on it, but most Women, at that time,. ran away from divesting bc they still believed in men. Now, we are globally divesting, and men are trying to abuse us and threaten Women to get back to "our places".. What Women have done throughout the years means nothing to men. The abuses we experienced by the hands of men, collectively mean nothing to them. Honestly, realizing men don't care enough to change their behaviors, is the part that is the most disappointing.

I can see this. As you age you really don’t need a man. Sexual desire is not strong as before and you are not looking to conceive. Most wise women and men are financially stable. There is actually no need to date. Friends would be good but no one is trying to attract anyone. Age brings so much maturity. As she was talking I had this visual that women have had to develop confidence which is like a rock (maybe because her name is Stone) whereas men learn arrogance, which is like a balloon. So they see themselves as bigger but they’re fragile, we know we’re smaller but we’re solid.

Wow great analogy! I’d add on top of that: since men are the balloon which reflects arrogance, they can float in air without a care in the world, bumping into all things but can get carried away directionless if they are not guided by a steady hand. Women being the rock - we are stepped and stomped on, taking on more abuse than necessary for no reason but we manage to stick around to be part of someone’s stepping stone and foundation, instead our own. Women need to be their own rock.

At 57, I've found I am more productive and happier without a partner. My son's father had another woman in my bed while I was in the hospital just having our son. My mother told me, you have 3 children what man will want you. You will be nothing and lose everything. I stayed and lost everything. I lost me, I lost my respect for myself, I learned to hide and cry, hide my hurt, I learned to pretend the beatings and other women didn't really happen. I was no more than his property, his free maid, his bed wench when he decided, I learned I was nothing to myself. Then something in me snapped once my youngest started school and I could go get a job. I learned I could make my own way. I could become an educated, happy person who was self-supportive. I didn't need him for anything. I left, I dated a few and realized the majority were about the same as him. They wanted to be controlling (the old boys club is still alive and well), they wanted that damsel in distress that they could play mind games with. One man told me you don't need anyone in a way that wasn't what he wanted. I said you're right if someone is now in my life it's because I want them there not need them there. For now, I see no want for a relationship. I'm a better me solo and love it. Ladies, never let anyone tell you you're not good enough. You Are!

I really thought at some point they would start to mature but they just don't and you end up having to mother them just to get them to a point where you can interact with them like an adult. I see why less and less women want to put in that work for the average guy. You really can't undo decades of poor parenting skills and relationship skills with most of them and it becomes a smarter decision to just let them be and focus on yourself.

The way men treat us has hit a breaking point. When men begin treating us as people and give us basic decency maybe it will be worth partnering with them. They refuse to try to grow and blame women! We are not even safe with men. The most likely person to harm us is our male romantic partner. The men who have been paying attention and treat women with respect are having no trouble finding partners. My friends always are so blown away that my boyfriend does housework and treats me well but that’s the bare minimum. I had completely stopped dating after three painful relationships and decided to just raise my children in peace alone when I met my current boyfriend. I think taking a step back to gain understanding of what you want for yourself is something we should do regularly. If men are not willing to make things better we will just have to shut them out.

I recently reconnected with a man I was in love with in the 90s. It only took a couple weeks of conversation to see that he has literally not evolved since the 90s. He kept talking about the woman who was my best friend back then and how she has “three kids from three men eewwww.” OK well her first kid was with this guy’s friend who has two kids from two different women but nobody’s telling him gross. She had that kid when she was 19. Is he implying that Peter should have owned her for the rest of her life because she had her first baby with him? Her following two children she had one each with each husband she had going through life. So she’s wrong for having a baby with her husband just because she had a baby at 19 with a dude who didn’t commit to her? F OFF with that. Then he proceeded to talk about her body and how she isn’t as cute as she was when we were 16. Yuck yuck yuck. I actually ended the conversation and the friendship after he acted like he was doing me a favor for wanting me because I’m disabled. He literally said guys must not want you because you’re disabled, I laughed out loud and said no sir, I look fine so literally nobody cares about that. But BYE because that’s language of an abuser. Like he thought he would get me trapped in his home and I would have nowhere to go because nobody else would ever want me. As if I’m not over here living by myself doing just fine. I don’t need anyone to want me, but unfortunately there’s been no shortage of that even at 50 years old and disabled

I knew it wasn’t tripping! I have been feeling this way for a minute and I am a 38 year old single mom of 2. When speaking on singleness, my married colleague loves throwing subs by saying things like “I don’t want to be lonely”. Why does being single equate to being lonely? No shade, but you’re in a toxic marriage with several children and poppa husband not even living with you or helping you with any bills. Yet, you still rock a ring and call him your husband to the outside world. I don’t understand it, but don’t make me feel bad for choosing a life of peace. Also, I’m tired of hearing about folks marital problems. I can’t do anything for you. One minute I’m ridiculed for CHOOSING to be single and next minute you’re venting to me for hours about a man YOU CHOSE to marry and bear children for. All that stops now cause I’m living my best life for ME. I don’t want to suffer with you anymore sis.

The weirdness you speak of? I think its homoeroticism...plain and simple. Men are obsessed with other MEN. They are obsessed with their own bodies, their own whims, and their own success. They are obsessed with anything like THEM. But its all biblical...in the last days, 'men will be lovers of themselves'. Porn gives them an outlet for relief without having to think of the needs of a woman. And the only woman that fits into their life? A spineless, brainless, sex doll bent on serving all day every day. In times past, they had their pick of the litter because women could not survive without them. Women soon learned that the ability to take care of yourself is the key to escape the misery and abuse that these cretans bring. So now, this destructive being is optional, not mandatory. And a number of women are checking out and leaving the options on the table...options that promise more destruction than happiness. Men just don't know what to do when decency is now a requirement.

A friend of mine is a life coach. She said a lot of men end up hating women because they were raised by a single mother. Now one would think they would love women since they were raised by one… But many times they say it’s because the woman keeps them away from their father, hates their dad so doesn’t let the father see the kid, or didn’t try harder to work it out with the father. So now he resents his mother although he may not tell her… Then he goes out into his adult life subconsciously hating all women

When my mom got divorced at the end of the 70s my grandma had to cosign the rental lease for her. I think it was because of income mostly, but I also think that when they couldn’t require women to need a male cosigner anymore, they decided to still require women to need a cosigner as a way to keep that going. Too bad for them, my grandma was a doctor in public health, she didn’t need a man and she made sure my mom didn’t either.

It doesn't matter if they are 18 or 80, 95% of males have no idea how to treat someone else with kindness, consideration or respect. It is shocking and disturbing how males truly treat women as if we are just here to serve, worship and open our legs for them yet they offer nothing of value, meaning or benefit to our lives. I am a lesbian. Divesting from men is a completely different thing for us on some levels. However, we still deal with direct marginalization and abuses that "straight Women" deal with. As Women, we experience abuses from our jobs, in education, even in male centered religion that vilianize homosexuality. Even today, men want to intrude in our intimate spaces with Women. In one incident, a man attacked two lesbians who were preparing for prom, graped both of them, and unalived one. men still feel threaten by our relationships with Women and try to gaslight us to think that our relationships with Women is directly linked to a male abandonment and/or abuses. Right now, I have a male, who was a childhood friend for over 20 years. Married, but still want to sexually intrude in my relationships with Women. And if u notice history books and classes ( his-story, get it)...Our experiences, inventions, ideas, etc have been erased and dominated by men. Yes, u have been hurt romantically by Women. Most people have been hurt romantically. However, DV, SA and sex trafficking have increased in numbers and males are the number one perpetrators. Lucky us, we don't date men or find them appeasing as a romantic interest. But divesting from men? Not just about romance,.. but more about our global experiences at the hands of men. Even our salaries are still marginalized in the States🤷‍♀️ men dehumanizing Women, is the point of our divestment

There are MANY reasons why I choose not to date, the main one of which being that my experiences with men in the past have been so mentally, emotionally and physically draining that the pay off for the relationship is just NOT worth it to me any more (speaking as a woman in her late 30s who had been dating since she was 17 in short and long term relationships, multicultural too). I also want to say that I personally know some wonderful men on a friendship level who make me laugh and bring me joy, but romantically, I can safely say I have enough satisfaction and contentment in my life I don’t want to disrupt it for any kind of man even on the foreseeable future…

I echo Sharon's sentiments. The mere passage of time does not guarantee maturity in men. Some men fail to evolve and prioritize the emotional well-being of women. The emotional fatigue experienced by women, who consistently invest their best efforts, is concerning. Men nowadays, often seek grooming and self-care activities previously associated with women, and they may expect gestures like having their nails and facials done, receiving flowers, or having dinner paid for. This transformation in expectations reflects a shift in male behavior over time. Sharon appears to be content and fulfilled, emphasizing the importance of self-love. Good for her! ❤❤
