Loved the review. I own a 2019 R1250RT, have only about 8,000 miles on it but I absolutely love it! For me, the RT offers the best of comfort, nimble sporty ride & handling, reasonable weight, and technology. Obviously selecting a bike is a very personal decision, we all have our own tastes and preferences! I like the new technology on the 2021 RT but my 2019 suits me just fine and I've barely got her broken in so I won't be trading anytime soon.

The R1200/50RS and the R1200/50RT are the most underrated bikes out there. I rode a 2018 R1200RS in a European Alpine tour for 7 days and the bike was unbelievable. The RT, being more comfortable (touring vs sport) is equally a machine to be ridden and appreciated. Exceptional engineering and rider comfort for both models in the 1200 and 1250 derivatives.

The screen's vacuum effect actually improves comfort by supporting the upper body. The ducting would deflect nuisance airflow created by the mechanisms gaps, rubber bellows would be more effective.

I've not ridden the new RT yet, but as an owner of a 2020 K1600GT, I think I'd beg to differ with your 'Ultimate Motorway' title. I don't have the nifty TFT screen, but I do have an additional 350cc and 4 cylinders! A good trade on any day. Here in Salt Lake City Utah with 80 mph speed limits, we regularly ride to over 10,000 ft (3000 meters for the rest of the world) and as the saying goes, there really is no replacement for displacement. My channel deals with my K1600s (Yeah, I have two. Follow the channel to find out how THAT happened) and my 03 M3 6 spd convertible and a host of other likely suspects. Great review, clear explanation of the ACC and new baubles! You know I just subscribed, and I'm going to be binge watching your channel. Good thing it's Friday!

Nice vid Rob, a niche bike and maybe hard to justify as an 'only bike' unless all you did was huge motorway mile commutes? Would love the big screen on my F series. BMW are struggling though with the software connectivity when pairing phones, helmets and satnavs on the older screens. I think they're getting it sorted but the phone app is a little flaky unless your bikes firmware is fully up to date. Hopefully the tech on these '21 bikes is all sorted. Whilst I still love the Triumph brand, the BMW's are really making some good bikes at the moment and I'm happy to be part of that family. You really need a BMW in your garage sometime soon.....an R9T to replace the Street Twin!

Just a thought - That TFT screen should have been made to be pushed down, out of sight when not in use (similar to some car screens that disappear into the dash). Even if the screen had to be a fraction smaller, it would have been a bonus. As a few have commented, that TFT is a theft magnet.

@@sesquashtwo Of course it depends where you live both country and location within it. The west coast of America seems to have as many Harley dealers as Starbucks. But when I lived in England, you could comfortably count the number of HD dealers in the British Isles on just two hands. In England, I always lived never more than 25 miles from a BMW dealer. Now I live in the states, the same can be said for HD dealers. I have both within a 30-minute ride currently, so each works well. I hope HD sell a lot of the new PanAm, that should make a great ADV-Tourer.

Thanks for the video. This will be my first bike in 7-8 years after a family sacrifice of my old one. I tried the GSA and loved it, as did the Chief Finance Officer (my wife) who has sanctioned the purchase. I wasn’t interested in the old RT, because the tech was behind the GSA, but now I’m swayed by all the shiny, new buttons and tech of the new RT. My main worry is the state of UK roads and when we rode the GSA, it soaked them all up. Fully loaded, there’s very little price difference between them and the RT comes with panniers as standard, the LE with central locking too. I can’t wait to test ride the RT.

And I'm wondering have U hears any more rumours about the baby R18 cause apparently someone leeked that BMWmotorad is thinking about making a R12. A R nineT engine in a cruiser frame. Icrecin they would detuned the engine for less power but more torque but it would ba a fun alternative to a Indian scout or a HD 883 or a 1200. I it all depends on how well the custom/cruiser market will react to the R18 and R18 classic.

So far, I'm very impressed with the GS, coming from the Tiger 900 GT Pro. It"s a joy to ride and soooo stable all the time. There is not enough legroom because of the fairing on the tank. I never have back pain riding a GSA, but I was so glad to give this machine back to the dealer and ride a GSA again. I owned a K1600 in the past for riding to work and that one was way bigger in the seating area.

No doubt this is the distance tourer of choice. I had a 2013 / 90 Jahre edition for 3 years, doing a lot of motorway mileage to visit a relative in hospital 240 mile / 386 km round journeys. I found i was flattening the very expensive tyres quickly. Also, even though it was probably the best tourer, I still found it tiring, I was in my early my sixties, so I decided to get a car for motorway journeys and different type of motorcycles for two up light touring. I agree these are great bikes, but I can’t imagine going up and down motorways / highways is much fun on any bike. Motorways are best for cars. A & B roads best for bikes. I miss that 2013 air cooled boxer engine though. Tigers and Bonnevilles for me now.

Agree that a car is always better on the motorway, but if you're touring there will always be those days when you just need to get the miles in between the good roads.

@@motobob - yes, I might start hiring bikes at further destinations. That way get to experience different bikes too. I know hiring bikes is expensive but so is changing bikes. I might hire a R1250RT in the South of France one day...

I currently have the B, and busy with a trade in on this. I test ride it, and the weight and balance of the RT is amazing. Top speed is also more than the B. I just can't believe how easy this bike is to ride at speeds at 10kph...

hey Bob.....whilst it may be great for one up touring, what if your wife wants to come along??? And dont think you will get away with a basic top box rear seat... she will want a full back seat lke the K1600 GT LE has mate

Good mile / kilometer muncher I suppose..I prefer the 1250RS personally. Too much "stuff". Adaptive cruise is very cool, but is it needed? We have a lot to pay attention to as a motorcyclist and following distance is close to number one, so I can see a benefit if distracted momentarily.

I can go 20k, but not 24/25 as these bikes are selling for currently..plus...I'm still considering a GS.....might be able to poach one when the model years change...but, this adaptive cruise control kind of gives me the creeps. I like the ability of it to keep you off a certain distance to what's in front of you, but beyond that, it's ingrained in me, and maybe it is with other riders that I have to control the bike, faster, slower, left or right. I don't know. If I'm on the fence about it, I'm leaning toward the side not using it more than the side using it. At least for now.

Love the screen and hope they implement it to the next generation GS. However, now you need a cell phone connection to operate the Navi, so you will be using a lot of data from your data plan and you need to always have a cell connection. Having a separate NAV unit or a built in Gamin/TomTom software (say link the Goldwing) eliminates these issues.

That’s not quite true. The complete maps are loaded on your phone (usually downloaded at home, in the same way you’d update your dedicated nav unit). Your phone doesn’t need to draw down data while you’re navigating.

@@motobob Go for it, best sports tourer on the market and seriously underrated . Test rode one when they were first released, lighter and more nimble and a bit of a weapon in the right hands. Way out of my price league at the moment so I,m stuck with my old 95' RS. Try one.... think you will be suitably impressed.

This RT's twin felt pretty smooth on the motorway, but I must say that the Goldwing's flat 6 is the ultimate in buttery smoothness. Yet to have a go on a K1600 but if they update it soon then I'll make sure I try it.

It would be lovely to have a bike like that....for 5% of the time. Maybe if I can have several bikes when I win the lottery. I'd be interested to know if adaptive cruise control can cope with emergency braking situations. I don't like the idea. I hope that the economy gage isn't like my brothers old 5 series. It only ever came out of the red when coasting downhill!

You can see why older riders account for a lot of sales of touring bikes, because it makes total sense if you're retired and have time to put loads of miles in seeing the country. That's the dream for me!
