In real life, I'd die if anyone knew I was this character and knew where it was from. I get second hand embarrassment from my own memories let alone getting embarrassed for thinks I do as jokes or interests I have now, and a lot of friends my age share that sentiment. My only saving grace with the age thing is that I'm short with a high voice, but I look in the mirror and I see a 40 something going through a second divorce when I'm 18..... we're aging even faster than millennials 😭

Nailed it. Other obvious factors were the non-prevalence of nip-tucking every little body flaw away with plastic, far less criminally over-adulterated food, and modern media not having keyed in that anger & anxiety are the two best emotional states to manipulate people with. I have met some youthful 20 somethings that look their age or a tad younger, but most have been hammered by stress and have the new equivalent of the 'thousand yard stare' our grandfathers did that I like to call the 'thousand screen stare'. I would hate growing up now, where everyone is in metaphorically your back pocket, nagging you while also trying to be your friend and putting you down, all just to get your milk money. Best advice I can give, because life over-stressed and filled with cortisol, is to learn to let most things go. It doesn't mean you become a doormat and get walked on and have no hard lines in the sand or strong opinions that will rock the boat at times. It just means that most things are already a giant rock in motion, and to either step to the side, or hop on top and ride it out. Worrying about all the details and uncontrollables when most never matter or come into play puts you in an early grave.

I'm positive that social media and beauty standards plays a large roll. There is an overuse of personal care and cosmetic products. Now, every generation has had its share of beauty trends and products, of course, but what are those ten step skincare routines really doing in the long run? Is it really good for your skin to jump between new serums and cleaners? Do we know the longterm outcomes of these formulas and chemicals? I'm not trying to fear monger and say reject "non-natural" products, I use skincare products, but I think there's something to be said about the over abundance of it all. That's not even touching on the cosmetics and increase in plastic surgery.

The younger generation is more nihilistic, too. It’s sad. We were more idealistic and had a healthier understanding of aging and having a full life. The message these kids are getting now is that life is basically over by the time you’re 30. I think this is a result of the decline in real life being exciting and “life” being lived through a phone.

Staring at screens all day in a dark room makes it so you can't sleep, and this does not help you look young. I don't care what anyone says, I've experienced it first hand, being outside in natural light, exercising, and letting yourself calm down, not playing video games and looking at your phone late at night, helps you sleep very deeply. Gen Z doesn't even have the contrast (they are basically never off their phone), and soon people won't connect it.

I'm 36 and often get asked what school I attend... Gen Z has a ton of expectations on them to be physically perfect, to start using makeup sooner, to perform in front of others. Add to that the bleak prospects for the future (which we Millennials also had, except we didn't know it until like 2008), increased pollution and microplastics which are affecting us all, and more exposure to bad news and screen time than we had growing up... And there you have it. I used to be online ALL THE TIME from like 8yo onward, but looking back, that was just all of my leisure time from 6 PM-10 PM. Didn't have access to the internet until after school, but first I had to do homework until dinner, and THEN I went online, which to me was a place full of creative artists and fandoms... We all made fansites back then. There were only 2-3 ads per day when you logged on to AOL, and then no ads after that. No corporate presence. Just midi files and IM-ing your friends until someone called the house and you got booted offline.

I have a very broad range of interests, so I'm always genuinely excited to share that knowledge with people, either through memories or teaching/showing how to do things (I'm in Construction, work on cars, into tech, Anime, gaming, music and the gym so there's always something) and ABSOLUTELY feel young and refreshed every single time I can share things with people or help them. I've always been told I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I embrace it more nowadays, being true to my feelings and thoughts and expressing them without concern on how I appear to other people. In general the vibe I give off is always a pleasant one for others, no matter how I feel inside. Honestly, not solely your appearance but your sincere and sage advice made me think for time you were in your 30's or 40's, you've blown my mind that you're in your 20's. BUT. I’m constantly mistaken for being in my 20’s.. I will say that the Waterhose water did in fact give me anti aging properties. I did become an introvert. But here’s why Being an extrovert stresses you out if you really aren’t an extrovert. If you’re constantly releasing cortisol due to trying to be something you aren’t. You’ll age yourself. So perhaps the 20 something’s need to become more authentic and stop chasing drama. It’ll reduce the cortisol which will pause the aging.

I'm 39... And I have many of the same concerns and stresses as this generation of young folks do.. Think about it... I graduated college, started working in finance, and by the end of MY FIRST YEAR the crash of 2008 happened (though it was REALLY late-2007 when things started going left), and I was out of a job, with literally NO COMPANY hiring in my field of study, and with limited experience. And then many other industries and companies just stopped hiring altogether... and not just in NYC/Wall Street... But all over the country (and world in some industries/cases). The housing market crashed, then the auto market crashed... THEN all of the CD and Electronics stores started closing down _(that's unrelated, but it's still a significant loss, lol)._ And honestly, things were really never the same again, and we were the OG youngsters who got the first taste and lived with how things are today. And YET, *every single time* someone learns my age they tell me they thought I was in my mid-to-late 20's, without fail. Like you said... There must have been something in the hose/park water fountain water that slowed down the aging process. But if you're around 40... Things have been close to how they are for most of your professional career, as has the general level of stress. And at least if you're in your 20's you have the hope of knowing things may rebound or get better at some point, even if it takes a while... I'm getting to the age where I simply don't have time left on the clock for things to crash and change... So I may have MORE stress than the average 25-30 year-old

Honestly, I believe it is largley because of social media and food. We didn't grow up on social media or addicted to tv so we didn't have to deal with the pressures of beauty standards like it is today. We also grew up with larger familes..meaning less money to go around so we had more homecooked meals and less fast food and pricessed junk. Families aren't as big anymore so families can afford the snacks and take out. Plus, mental health in general is declining. Life is getting more expensive and stress is high. Another thing is faith in God. Older people are more likely to be belivers and faith does a lot for you. Trusting God to get you through storms relieves a lot of stress. There's so many factors.

Here’s a heartfelt suggestion: Stay off of social media. Entirely. Go outside and leave your phone at home. Find some active hobbies like cooking, or woodwork, or painting. Make it a practice to think about things you have that you can and should be grateful for. Being around other people without an internet filter on, even if you’re just in a grocery store or at a park, will do wonders. There is a lot of beauty in this world and a lot to be genuinely positive about, but you won’t know if you’re always taking on life through a screen. It saddens me that the online world has managed to convince people that there is nothing to be happy about. Even after an earthquake or a hurricane, kids will go outside and play. After a funeral, you will laugh at good memories. We have a lot to be thankful for if only we change how we view the world and people in it.❤

30 yr F here. I had to reassure him that I really am 30 and I just don't look it. Another lady asked me what grade I'm in and I had to explain that I finished grad school 2 years ago. Tbh, I look young because I have bangs covering my huge forehead and I am relatively slim but I struggle with major depressive disorder, chronic insomnia and anxiety attacks so I'm not sure I'll continue to look young for much longer. However, what Jordan said is true - whenever I am overwhelmed I fervently look for a tv to watch cartoons while drawing or look up some old tv shows I watched growing up. It's my coping mechanism and I still feel like a 12 year old most of the times.

Those days of playing outside and not being afraid to talk to people in person seem like a different life now. We were just as screwed when entering the adult world, but at least there was a buffer period before that. Holding onto and reverting into the happy, safe bubble of my childhood is so real. I gleefully shared my recent 37th birthday and giggled at the disbelief she radiated. ***aside from the hilarious ego boost, it was good to know that my inconsistent lazy skin routine was still getting the job done and stress hasn’t annihilated my largest organ. And while age isn’t a huge deal to me, I totally feel like a kid in a grownups body….like 37….REALLY?? 🙌🏾😂❤️💯

There is nowhere to play outside. The only playground in my town is filled with drug operations, and it has become a rare sight to see a tree. Meanwhile, our phones are easy to use, safe, and give us a way to talk to others. If my friends lived closer, we would definitely hang out everyday. I want that. We want that, but my country doesn't. It is not our fault that we use the Internet, it is simply what happens when we can't meet up and play anymore.

Gen X here, I'm 48... I used baby oil and Nivea cream as my sun tan lotion. I used lemon juice to dye my hair. Played outside until it was dark, didn't have a computer until I was in my 20's. We ate Pop-Tarts, Nerds, rock candy, drank Squeeze-Its and Capri Sun. We chewed Hubba Bubba and Bazooka until we went to sleep. Went through a can of Aqua Net once a week, doused ourselves with Electric Youth perfume. Went to rock concerts and didn't come home until morning. People think I'm in my mid-thirties....

36 and got asked for my IDs to buy beer. I said thank you to the lady for asking, she thought I was offended for some reason and tried to re-justify her questioning of my age saying "well maybe you are old enough but our policy is to ask everyone that looks 25 or under". I said "well thank you again for that compliment" handed her my ID and she looked at it and said "Oh,😳 sorry sir" 😂😂

I'm 71 and your 40s-50s fits our growing up, too. We were kicked out of the house after breakfast and couldn't come back until the streetlights came on. After dinner, we went out again, and played flashlight tag for a couple of hours, before going in and to bed. Then start all over the next morning. The extrovert to introvert is a direct strike, too. Being outside has worn off its attraction. There is too much to do inside.

I’m 50. It’s all about taking care of your body. You have to give up the weed and the alcohol, and do your best to stop stressing out about life. Also, chill on the social media. It’s a mind cemetery and will just stress you out even more. You don’t need to have two degrees and a house by 25. Trust. You will get that in time, if that’s what you want.

@@Sly-Moose it's definitely necessary w all the crap they put in water these days. I'm still looking for a brita type that filters out fluoride. They've gone too heavy on that. Plus if you boil water ever, it's better to rig a system to catch the evaporation/steam and catch the condensation: because all the metals and particulates stay behind and you'll get a glass of water w no bacteria, but heavy on the metals & overall gunk

I've heard that the plastic water bottles contain some type of harmful chemicals/content that when they're stored in warehouses and storage rooms once the heat begins to slowly melt, the plastic releases harmful pathogens not good for the body and are released into the water, causing several health concerns. This may be a conspiracy or it could be true. I just know drinking from the hose pipe or outdoor faucet as kids we didn't have those concerns. 😂 Idk

Id come home from work, tired as all get out but when they'd rang ny bell and ask if i could come out and play with them, id say let me change into my play clothes and run outside with the quickness. I wanted them to have memories and they do. Now, they're in their early 20s and just as polite and sociable to people older than them. They wirk ir go to shool. They get it! And they look so young and unbothered. Bless them all. Even the ones who are gone.
