In this wrestling documentary we explore how Triple H spent the years between 2002 and 2005 on his reign of terror, a time in wrestling when he ran roughshod over WWE Raw and had an iron grip on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a WWE title given to him by Eric Bischoff. During the reign of terror, Triple H crushed WWE Superstars such as RVD, Kane and Booker T, and bored wrestling fans with long promos and even longer matches.
In this video we revisit that time during the Triple H reign of terror, and see what made it such a terrible time to be a WWE fan.

Not just Book, but burying all the great non-WWF/E wrestlers, his burial of RVD as well was new low. RVD during 2002 and subsequent years was pure gold, later his addiction increased and RVD was no longer the same wrestler. WWE should have given them a run during 2001-02 for sure.

What made the reign of terror worse than it already was was the fact that Triple H wasn't close to the same wrestler he was from 1999-01. The quad injury robbed him of his mobility in the ring and all of the matches, except for the ones that featured HBK, were abysmal beyond belief. He was simply too big to bounce around the ring like he had done at his peak in 2000.

Agreed. It's unfortunate that what happened later, along with his marriage, tends to overshadow how good he really was at his peak. 99-01 Hunter was brilliant, IMO the best heel of the attitude era at the time wrestling was at it's absolute peak. DDP a 40 year old who was a big fish in a small pond in WCW was such a huge draw and great wrestler over the rock, stone cold, undertaker, Jericho, Benoit, and angle. He should’ve beat everybody! Along with booker t who couldn’t draw a lick even when he pushed down everyone’s throat from 2000 til 2001. Also the same booker t who was careless and broke Steve Austin’s back in his debut. Undertaker buried 20 wrestlers at wrestlemania. I’m using your logic, since losing a match to a top guy means you’re “buried” you see how dumb that sounds? I didn't have an issue with Triple H being a dominant heel champion or even him beating Van Dam as his first title match. I get why he beat beat RVD (first title defense and all) & Kane because you need your heel champ to look strong, but Booker should've won the belt. Imagine the pop it would've got that Booker overcame the odds to beat this "this racist piece of sh!t" after Trips had belittled him for his race, but we'd have to wait until '06 until "King Booker" for him to World Champ (which was a great over the top heel character). About the whole Katie Vick thing. According to everyone involved HHH didn't want to do the Katie Vick angle, Vince's two yes man Kevin Dunn & Bruce Pritchard told Vince no we can't air this. It was all because Vince found it funny & refused to listen because Vince thinks he knows best.

Can I give you some perspective; so Triple H represented one of the genetic embodiments of all around superiority during that time period (2001-2003). I would like to point out that shortly after the Reign of Terror, Brock Lesner had made his debut alongside John Cena and Batista, all of whom were referred to as being "straight out the lab" ---whatever that meant. They represented the next generation. Regardless and without any shadow of a doubt' they wound up being phenomenal wrestlers, all in their own likeness. Ask yourself this, could you imagine anyone like Triple H or even Stone Cold in his prime (1998) busting power bombs on dudes like Kurt Angle or how about going for an Attitude Adjustment (The FU) which is an inverted F5. Let's go back to the former generation from the Attitude Era, Hollywood Hulk and the infamous leg drop and.... Bill Goldberg, an actual behemoth next to Hulk, but more famous for hurting people and underperforming due to his stamina. Could you see Bill busting out more than three maybe four powerbombs? Such a thing was standard for Batista who would often quickly deliver three of them along with one or two spears in the gut before the end of the match. I don't throw Randy into the mix because he was considered in my opinion to be almost a bit of an androgynous character next to an actual heavy weight. In my opinion Triple H was definitely not a Heavy Weight, his egomania was but neither was Stone Cold. They knew how to work a crowd and people loved them for that period of time. That's what makes them classic WWF champion which is never fitting for a natural heel like Batista or even the Rated R superstar Edge. I firmly believe every wrestler represents a persona that many people channeled during their time periods. They don't last forever--- obviously, but it's nice watching them sell themselves and how they delivered as well. At the end of the day, what meant the most to Vince was not only his revenue but how the paying customers look at the whole company. This relationship between McMahon and the WWE fanbase quickly dwindled down after the late nineties. Just look at how he attacked Freedom of Expression in the crowd. Gone were the days of saying, "Goldberg Eats Corn the Long Way." Most people see Vince as another conglomerate like Eric Bischoff or Ted Turner and I wouldn't disagree, however Vince was what Walt Disney was to his own company and that's not just being a perverted psychotic sometimes CEO but a poster child of the greatest company to leave a mark on the face of the earth.

You do realise the whole focus of the year 2002, 2003 and 2004 was the feud between Shawn and HHH, the only real break was Shawn vs Jericho and Shawn w Goldberg vs Flair and Orton. Benoit barely had a rivalry with HHH, and the fact is, the HHH v HBK rivalry was so intense, it needed to take a spot on every PPV, thus needed no title. Chris was literally a prop to enhance the other rivalry while removing the title. Triple H's reign of terror was basically the Hulk Hogan reign of terror, the John Cena reign of terror, the Roman Reign's reign of terror and so many more. Each time, fans got behind other wrestlers and were actually paying money to see them and rather then say, "Hey. when it made sense to lose, let's lose.", it became "Hey. Let's never lose no matter how stupid that makes everyone else looks, and destroys them and fan investments, so long as we remain on top and protect our own brand." Which is the worse thing about all these reigns of terrors. Because the idea behind protecting the main event, top level of the pack talent like Cena, H and whatnot was perfectly fine and made business sense. But what makes it not a business decisions and what makes it an ego trip of both Vince and the [insert wrestler's name here], is that it destroys the credibility of other main event in the making talents who proved that they either could make it to the top, or have already made it to the top before. People who were on their levels or higher and could have helped made everyone a lot of money and made a lot of fans happy, was ultimately nipped in the bud because of ego. Just pure egos.

On the surface, it certainly feels like that, but you have to be an AEW edgeboi if you are going to use this to justify hating on WWE (and more disgustingly, wished that Triple H's health scare actually did "un-alive" him, I hate the Internet sometimes). Triple H may have a lot of pull backstage, given his ties to Stephanie McMahon and the Kliq, but when it comes to booking decisions, you have to remember that prior to 2022, Vince is the one who has the final say in things. In addition, the brand split certainly hurt RAW's talent pool, most of which were comprised of former WCW and ECW guys that Vince will never push cause he did not "make" them. Only Kane and HBK were the real "made men" on the RAW roster then, which kind of limits the storyline options which will not make Vince blow a gasket. Despite these flaws, Triple H did eventually give the rub to Batista, albeit due to WWE botching Orton's planned babyface push, so say what you want about Triple H, but never ever say that Triple H never gave back to others.

@primetimemonkyhours743 It sucks Book failed the Wellness policy. If he didn't, maybe they can actually have a real feud instead of people bitching about "Booker should've won" before realizing 3 weeks of promos is not enough time for an actual feud. The bigger wwf star is not losing on their return. 2001: Rock leaves for four months to make a movie. Comes back. Three weeks later, he beats Booker and takes his title. 2000: Austin is gone 10 months for neck surgery. Comes back, four weeks later, in his first official match, beats Rikishi. 2003: Kurt is gone three months for neck surgery. When he's approaching a return, 2-3 weeks before Vengeance ppv, he returns. And he beats Brock and Show for the title. 2007: HHH is gone 8 months for quad surgery. Also during this time, Book fails a test. Two weeks before HHH'S return, they do some promo packages on his rehab process. Instead of Book serving his suspension outright, immediately, they pair those two together for Summerslam. When he loses, he leaves. This way he doesn't have to serve a suspension. By year's end, he's in TNA forming a stable with Steiner, Nash, Samoa Joe, and Angle. You can't build a rivalry in few weeks, and expect the other guy to win. Real rivalries are several months of back and forth. Epic rivalries go on for years. And the way Vince books, his homegrown bigger stars will always go over if they've been gone for extended periods of time. This is not a HHH thing. It's a Vince thing. Now, if Booker passes the Wellness program, and we get a real King of Kings program between H and Book that goes from Summerslam to Survivor Series, there is zero doubt in my mind Book gets some ppv wins on HHH. It sure as hell would be better than the crap they gave HHH August 07-Jan 08 (Umaga, Carlito, and Snitsky). No offense to those individuals, but he and Booker would've had a more entertaining run I think. They (management) didn't want the title on HHH yet. (The crowd did though). So he wasn't doing much that sustained him creatively his first six months back.

You can tell he got into a bad crowd, Vince, his father in law, Stephanie his wife, the rest of the business. The promise of wealth and prosperity, he had been blindfolded by greed. He was made a member of the Kliq. He worsened himself by destroying his relationship with Chyna and physically attacked her to prove they were through. Stephanie McMahon and Vince McMahon also have their tentacles latched onto him as well. It’s not all his fault. The McMahons are evil, greedy and selfish, they put a lot of other rich families to shame without mentioning any. Stephanie McMahon was busy sleeping with other wrestlers like the Macho Man and Vince McMahon placed the Ultimate Warrior out of business. Those two are the main social villains that made Triple H such a merciless, unkind, unpleasant, despot he seems to be today.

HHH Back than was the only reliable worker on Raw (aside from HBK and Kane at the time). Smackdown was stacked with tallent back than(Benoit, Angle, Cena, Taker, Lesnar etc). On Raw on the other hand yes you had tallent like Jericho(honestly Im bafled how he took his huge break way later), RVD(who was one stop away to arrest because of Weed), Booker T(for purely WWE fans at the time he was still the outsider duo to propaganda agaisnt WcW and I as a European fan who no access to WcW had no idea who was he). Raw was prioretize new tallent like Orton and Batista. Orton: Attitude problems and hard to work with Batista: prone to injuries. Booker T: Victim of WWE Propaganda agaisnt WcW and I remember as only WWE fan I did not know anything about the guy and vied him as inferior wrestler(yes I was a dum Teenager). Jericho: He was small and thus in Vince's eye not worth the trouble. Benoit: Sadly he did not draw much and also he was booked bad but HHH put him over on 1v1 on Vengeance. Steiner: he was injured and limited in the ring also attitude problems We can shit on HHH all day long and Im not say his innocent or anything, but from a performer perspective yes he was the most reliable to deliver and he tried to put over Shelton Benjamin at the begining of 2004, he put over Benoit but later Vince just did not booked him right, he put over Orton but his attitude was causing problems with the fans and with the company so they took his title away. The only success story was Batista with good 3 matches back to back(mind back than it was huge when HHH was dethrone) But you say "they could Draft someone from Smackdown", Who? Lesnar: Left Taker: one injury from retirement Angle: In feud with Eddie Goldberg: He was only for a year

There was always Triple H the evolving cerebral assassin-character and Triple H the wrestler. To be fair, it was hard distinguishing the two from each other, at times, as his character was 99% ego self-centered while his wrestling abilities were 99% routine to his handful of technical moves. To be critical, Triple H became the epitome of WWE's need for constant entertaining through storytelling and wrestling matches that were, and were not, always main-event caliber stuff....

When the rock and stone cold left there was no body else so they had to have triple h carry the brand. And they decided to fast track pensar to the second spot but it never worked.
