In this video, I analyse psychology and mythology of Tywin Lannister, one of the best strategists in Game of Thrones, an awe-provoking leader, and a stern and cruel father. I also take apart some additional symbolism of the lion (apart from the main symbolism related to Tywin) as well as some of the character traits of Tywin's children (Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion). Let me know in the comments what character you'd like me to analyse next!

I remember them mentioning how when Tywin was younger he absolutely hated hearing people laughing because he always considered that their laughter was directed towards him and he was always being mocked in some way. This probably tied into the way people treated his father and why he would become super controlling and always demanding to be taken seriously as an adult, if he wasn't then he viewed it as a serious slight.

But I’m probably wrong) accent that shines through their otherwise great narration to me. 6:30 It's the opposite. Cercei embraces Tywin which is the problem because she believes she can emulate Tywin when she can't. Tywin always went against his father and did whatever he wanted and so Cercei is frustrated she can't do the same. Tyrion pushes against him far more. Because Tywin is so cold and objective Tyrion is very warm and open hearted. Because Tywin is so insistent on every moment of time being useful Tyrion embraces wasting time with prostitutes, food and trivia knowledge.

If you have watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, you will notice how much parallels and similarities there are between Fire Nation and Lannisters. Both Ozai and Tywin are narcissistic father figures and megalomaniac dictators. And their chidren have similar roles in the family as well. Azula is a mini copy of his father, Ozai. She's a prodigy, Ozai's pride and his golden child. Even possibly the only person that he ever loved. Just like Cersei, Azula posseses cruelty, ruthlessness, and self-centered personality. Meanwhile Zuko is the combination and Jaime and Tyrion. He became a people pleasure in order to gain his father's affection. And likewise Tywin hated Tyrion, Ozai hated his son since the very moment he was born. Zuko was always the scapegoat of his family. Also, both Zuko and Tyrion have sisters who hate them...

Hello. I am just going through your content and I love it. I believe that there are layers to everything. I always view everything from a higher perspective and I love how you include many different aspects to explain Tywin's psychology. Ex: Explaining the spiritual aspects, the light and shadow aspects of an individual, the light and shadow of the "lion" (including animals) and etc. I always view things in a higher perspective and I know that one has to view things from a perspective of higher consciousness. Many psychiatrists or individuals who study in the field (not all, of course) only view things from a 3D perspective or lens. They only view the physical. (Not surprising, as many can't believe what they can't see. - The spiritual.) The spiritual is connected to the 3D and that is the reality. When trying to understand someone, I study different topics like astrology, spirituality, and etc, to get a better perspective on an individual because "surface level" psychology doesn't best explain an individual. There are not many individuals within the field that understand this, so I am so grateful that I found your channel. I have studied psychology in depth and I have been impressed with the videos I have recently viewed. Thank you. 🙂👍

All right, I just rewatched the video and I want to say it's marvelous! I am really amazed!!! You said plenty of interesting things. And yeah, I have always thought Tywin sees his children as extensions of himself, hence why he hates Tyrion for not being "perfect" like him or why he probably let Cersei grow into a narcissistic monster, since she was "perfect" on the outside. Not so different to Cersei and Joffrey, honestly...

In the European medieval style culture that is present in Westeros, Tywin is constantly being admired and adored by his lesser lords, vassals and pretty much everyone at King's landing, because he's so high up in the royal court. His grandiosity can be seen throughout the show, his fine clothes, the two lion styled room dividers in his office and the two Valerian steel swords he has made for Jamie and Jofree. An example of both grandiosity and need for admiration is when he's officially made Hand of the King, The whole ceremony is basically a huge thank you for his actions and He comes in on a beautiful white Horse, making him tower over everyone in the crowd.

I only wish the book series were finished already, as we know how things can change from one moment to another unexpectedly in GoT. I am, however, inclined to trust that Dany's core won't change, as it wouldn't make sense at all, given the archetypal background she stands for (and that's also why the twist they made in the show was a disastrous decision).

Or I will never be good enough anyway no matter how much I try, because, because my name is not Tywin Lannister. Same as Littlefinger, I find him used to be very idolized by younger me lmao but I wouldn't like it either if this world has like 6 you know the number. I would have left feeling paranoia if anyone will be backstabbed me all the time. Will today I encounter a backstabber? 0:18 It's literally deniable that he was a great strategist, at least as a military strategist. Was he a great politician? Heck yeah, but commending wasn't really his strength. Before you guys go bUt TyWiN iS tHe SmArTeSt MeN iN wEsTeRoS aNd He Is A gReAt StRaTeGiSt! I'm gonna say, yes, he is smart indeed. But not as smart as fandom thinks. And he is not exactly a military strategist either. Let's analyze his battles. (Only counting the ones that Tywin got involved alone, so I won't mention Battle of 9 Penny Kings, Greyjoy Rebellion and Robert's Rebellion) So, let me prove it! 1-) His first battle was the one against Tarbecks and Reynes. He destroyed both houses. But again, both of them were falling houses, but Lannisters were strong and rich as ever. They had a great army and had advantage in numbers. So, no surprise that Tywin was able to destroy them both. 2-) He plundered King's Landing. Honestly, this wasn't a military success. He only waited to see how the war was going and then attacked King's Landing when it was weakened. So, plundering a city isn't exactly fighting in a war with strategy. 3-) The Battle of Greenfolk. Now that's when we finally see Tywin as a commander. Yes, they defeated Roose Bolton's forces. But again, they were greater in numbers and Tyrion's mountain clans were involved too. And we see that Tywin's plan actually failed, because he tried to get rid off the mountain clans (and Tyrion as well). But it didn't work. And also, we know for a fact that Roose Bolton didn't actually want to win that battle (even then, his betrayal was foreshadowed). So, Tywin could easily lose that one despite being greater in numbers. 4-) The Battle of Whispering Wood. I know that Tywin wasn't involved in the battle as a person, but that's the problem. He could prevent Stark army from saving the Riverlands and capturing Jaime. Before the Battle of Greenfolk, Kevan suggested Tywin to stay at their current location since the natural area had its advantages and it would be easier to defeat the Stark forces. If Tywin actually listened to Kevan, he could prevent the river from dividing his army from Jaime's. And he could move to Riverlands much sooner. But he didn't. And as result, half of the Lannister army got destroyed, Jaime got captured and Starks saved Riverlands. 5-) The Battle of Blackwater. Tywin and Tyrells came to help in the last minute and defeated Stannis. But Stannis' army was already weakened and some of it was destroyed by Tyrion's wildfire. So, Tywin (again) used the numbers. And let's not forget, Robb Stark defeated Lannister forces in every single battle. I'm saying all this, because there's a huge misconception about Tywin Lannister and his commander skills.

I hope it is Daenerys that dethrones the Lannister and/or kills Cersei. Some people have theorized that Danaerys could be the valonqar because she is someone's younger sibling and the word valonqar is Valyrian and we know Daenerys is Valyrian.

Tyrion is the mad kings seed , if he was portrayed as per his description more people would note , mismatched eyes & hair & u a definitely correct about Targaryen genetics how it can manifest itself.

Tywin's biggest failing was he wasn't able to see what was in front of him. An he allowed his children to become self centered morons. All because of his ego an pride.

Aren't narcissistic personality disorder and schizoid personality disorder mutually exclusive? Narcissists display high values in trait extraversion, while schizoids display very low values in trait extraversion. Given from what I've seen, Tywin is very introverted, the lack of laughter speaks extremely for this. So If I have to choose, I'd rather say he is a schizoid rather than a narcissist.

i dont think tyrion was aegons son. historically, in families such as the habsburgs, all it took to bring on viable children was a single bout of fresh blood in the form of an outsider bride. inbreeding can be catastrophic, but it is so, because recessive genes are allowed to echo for generations. a non-inbred relation such as a targaryen man and a lannister woman would be extremely unlikely to produce a damage child (as opposed to a targaryen woman who probably have weird as fuck dragon-infused eggs, id imagine). tyrion is a product of inbreeding, but that inbreeding stems from tywins cousin marriage, making tyrion a visible failure of the proud house lannister and a blight to tywins glory project

God may say he opposes the proud, but he doesn't. He himself is proud, so his quote becomes meaningless.
