Why did we move to Puerto Rico? People have been asking us this question a lot lately. So we made a video to talk about the reasons why we moved to the enchanted island, Puerto Rico.
In this video we talk about tourism after hurricane Maria, tax incentives for businesses on the island, applying for a US citizenship here, and more!

I love Puerto Rico and would retire there if it wasn't for the hurricanes. It angers me that we have a government that treats our citizens there so badly.
@SpanishandGo
@SpanishandGo 5 жыл бұрын
I've heard that the hurricanes aren't usually nearly as bad as Maria. Hopefully there isn't another hurricane here like that for a long time, but I understand your concern. I think about it a lot actually, because Minnesota is relatively safe from many natural disasters, but it's pretty much a guarantee that it's going to be freezing cold every year about nearly half the year. So every place has it's advantages and disadvantages. 😆But you're right, it's very sad how the government treats Puerto Ricans. Thanks for watching! -Jim

@@SpanishandGo hmm, I haven't explored Cabo Rojo for waterfalls, I mainly go there for el Poblado de Boquerón. The only waterfalls at the top of my head I can think of would be Salto Curet en Maricao, Río El Pilón en San German y Charco Azul (Ponce). There's another one with the same name in Vegas Baja. I do know a place in Cabo Rojo called Edén, It's a sweet camping spot. My guess is, not many people know about it since I barely see people there when I go. Love it. Peaceful. I have my first vlog about Charco Azul, Ponce. Not sure if it would be helpful. Saludos! Soy de Aguada pero estudio en Ponce so me hospedo acá. (Sorry about the Spanglish)

Don't know if its from DR or from where they are, but well said. But if these people you mention are from other latinamerican countries, you know what happens. Many would like to have what we have which I am not against. What I am against is that they get mad because they don't have it.

I was born in raised in Puerto Rico. It's a gorgeous island and it has wonderful people and amazing food and countless hidden gems hidden throughout. Although the island is still working through the whole Maria situation and more issues are becoming more apparent like the electric and water systems as well as the shotty government and the misuse of funds for things that need it. I feel that if those things are worked on Puerto Rico can truly prosper and can shine bright as hell.

Hey there! Puerto Rican here! I know a lot of places you can go to eat, cool down and lots of beaches! I can recommend a few here: *Crash Boat in Aguadilla *Sandy Beach in Rincón *Basically any beach in Cabo Rojo and Boquerón *Flamingo Beach in Culebra Island And there are more, but you would need a guide to get to some really beautiful spots, and some really nice places to share with people!

Lidiar con migración en cualquier pais es una pesadilla jajajaja. My step mom is cuban, and it was a looong process for her to become a Mexican citizen. As for me I moved to the US in 2016 and just last year (2018) we could complete the residency process when they finally interviewed us and authorized my first green card. I'm glad you guys are close to finish with all of this :D

I want to move to PR myself.. The bio bay and its bioluminescent water in vieques is awesome, also to be seen in the town of la parguera w its mangrove islands (by kayak at night is how i like to see the bio water). Castillo san felipe del morro take the tour and wander on your own.. also there is castle san cristobal and fort san geronimo (both smaller).. the bacardi factory has a tour as well .. the camuy caves has a tour its awesome, the cueva del indio and its rock carvings is an adventure. The arecibo dish until a year ago was the biggest in the world. The rain forrest (el yunque) wander on your own and jump in the pools of water. The lighthouse in rincon and the lighthouse in cabo rojo among the cliffs is awesome. Jump in the river is san sebastian and more rock carvings on a rock in the middle of a river in jayuya. The thermal mineral waters (hot springs) in the town of coamo this is a secret lol.. If you like greenery the many towns among the hills like in las marias and utuado and so on .. The many great beaches everywhere like in crash boat, survival beach, boqueron beach rents cabins among the palm trees, and of course theres flamenco beach in culebra, and the unique beach of mar chiquita beach in manati.. There is mona island off the west coast of PR but its a bout 50 miles off the coast but very unique a skull island type of place, a pirate heaven way back when.. PR has amazing historical statues throughout the island such as the newer christopher columbus statue in arecibo. Ponce has a beautiful museum of art.. i cant wait to move. (its all on youtube).

I don’t see the tax benefits. Been to PR and have asked many people many questions and it seems to me that you pay more taxes there, especially sales taxes. Also, food costs so much more so any savings on other taxes disappears quickly. Speaking of food, couldn’t find a lot of items I’m used to, being from the US west coast, especially produce. Produce is either limited or very expensive.

Yup, sales tax is 11.5%, a gallon of milk can cost up to $6, gas (two years ago when I left the island) was at 80 cents per liter ($3.2 per gallon), jobs are scarce and well paying jobs even scarcer, corruption is through the roof and safety is a big concern. I love my country but I can't live there.

The current Financial Junta is trying to find money anywhere they can so has to pay the bond holders. This means sooner or later they will push for any tax incentives to be canceled plus increase taxes in other things. Its just a question of time.

A&B and Efraín. Thanks for being honest. I will be moving there later this year and will stay for at least a little over a year, at least, for family reasons. But the conditions for locals -cost of things, wearing infrastructure, etc, frustrate me. For visitors, it’s great and I hope more go. But I hope people, everyone, speak up for betterment and not let US and commonwealth government keep ignoring the problems and pretending everything is great on the ground.
