It's little things like this that make me love Reaper. Seriously the most versatile daw out there. I could use any of them and I chose Reaper. And I paid for it, gladly. They earned that money. Many times over.

Awesome Casper - thank you for taking the time(especially as english is probably not your first language) to carefully explain how to do this :) I struggled with VR years ago in Profools and never got close to the precision and transparency this method enables. I work with huge libraries of spoken vocal - leveling etc, so I now have this method set up as my go to template. With much gratitude for the incalculable time you have saved me to do a much better job! :)

Wow awesome man been using Reaper for a long time and never tried this out. I love how you moved the send track by 30ms to give the daw some time to respond. I have used Melda Productins MAutoVolume, demoed vocal rider, and used hornets Auto Gain Pro plugin and this is by far the cleanest results I have used. I used an extreme vocal example and the gain went from -5 to -12db with very transparent results. Also the very top slider when your tweaking the parameter modulation allows you to slide it to the right which will compensate for gain loss. Thanks man, new subscriber.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is awesome to find ways around things, its how we fix things that are broken, Diagnostics. However this is almost like driving 100 miles to get gas because its $.10 a gallon cheaper than the station around the corner.
@caspermaster-com6 жыл бұрын
At the time vocal rider costed like 100$ or more. Now you don't have to side chain from a different track because I guess reaper fixed the artifacts.. So you can set it up in 20 sek with 1-2 input on the parameter modulator

im pretty sure you could set this up once and save it as a template. or maybe someone could write this as a plugin for reapers JS :D
@nikirose76733 жыл бұрын
Yes you could set this up and save it as a template/fx chain, but it seems a lot of faff and hassle just to avoid buying an excellent plugin that costs about £25

You can not legally use Reaper forever, you need to pay after 60 days

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I used Blue Cat's Gain Suite plugin instead of the plugin you used, and it works great! By adjusting the parameters accordingly, I was able to keep a good level of dynamics, where there is a level difference between soft and energetic parts, but it is much more controlled. BTW I saw some comments saying that now it's possible to use this method without the need for having a duplicate track for modulating the parameter. How to do that?
@caspermaster-com4 жыл бұрын
Glad it helps, i usually dont use this often anymore, but in stead of using 3-4 sidechain input, use 1-2 input, the process gets a lot quicker because you are not side chaining but using the tracks own audio
@caspermaster-com4 жыл бұрын
Aaand! It was always possible to not use sidechain, the reason i use it is to make the modulation process be able to look into the future by nudging the sidechain track earlier in time than the track we are working on. That way, it sounds better, but i dont know, mabey reaper has done updates that makes it sound equally good, but it was possible before as well :)

Hi man, it is a good idea for a video. But i think it lacks and falls short, not because of you. It is because, i think most of us who wanna use vocal rider do it because it is simple and do not take time and a lot of work.
@Mcgiver6992 жыл бұрын
You know you can save it as a track FX and don't need to set it up over and over
@boimesa81906 жыл бұрын
funny, before I knew anything about any dynamics/mixing/compression I used this trick in FL Studio (this actually is more comprehensive and accurate) to level vocals! but yeah are there any other DAWs that offer this?

Is Vola2 a substitute vor vocal rider?
@caspermaster-com Жыл бұрын
Now vocal rider is basically free, like 20-30$ I basically don't use it anyway. If one section is so drastically louder than another, I will just mix similar volumes/tonalities separately at this point :)
@chrwrd2960 Жыл бұрын
@@caspermaster-com Ok, but vola 2 is long time available now. Why people use vocal rider instead? Is vola 2 more a compressor, than a volume leveler?There are many sonic anomaly plugins out there and people are very happy about them, sayin there're very good. So why?🤔

But there's one good reason for Vocal "Raider". Just insert to the track -DONE. NO tinkering and head scratchinng with Reaper. Yes, you can do everything with Reaper (my main DAW as well), but sometimes it's just easier to use a non convoluted plugin or even another DAW to achieve your goal before programming/thinking(head-scratching has spoiled a good creative moment. But still... I love Reaper a lot!!!
