Live Coverage: WI v. Chandler Halderson - Dismembered Parents Trial
Happening in Court:
Det Sabrina Sims - Dane County Sheriff's Ofc
Mary Sesto - Halderson Family Friend
Kevin Linsmeier - Halderson Family Neighbor (Childhood Friend of Bart Halderson)
CHARGES:
Victim Bart Halderson:
COUNT 1: First-degree Intentional Homicide
COUNT 2: False Info on Kidnapped or Missing Persons
COUNT 3: Mutilating a corpse
COUNT 4: Hiding a Corpse
Victim Krista Halderson:
COUNT 5: First-degree Intentional Homicide
COUNT 6: False Info on Kidnapped or Missing Persons
COUNT 7: Mutilating a corpse
COUNT 8: Hiding a Corpse
A Wisconsin man stands trial for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents without remorse, and providing false information on their disappearances. Chandler Michael Halderson, 23, faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide. Remains from his father Bart Halderson, 50, and mother Krista Halderson, 53, were found days apart, authorities said.
Defendant Halderson reported his parents missing July 7th, claiming they left their home in the Village of Windsor days before on the 1st. He told WISC-TV at the time that they were going to the village of White Lake, Wisconsin.
“My last message I got from them, they were going to White Lake for the Fourth of July,” he told “There are some festivities that go around there. Better drink prices at the bars. Stuff like that.”
He said that to his knowledge, they were then going to their cabin in Langlade County.
“Along the way, they could’ve stopped many places,” he said. “I wouldn’t know all of them.”
He was allegedly just feeding everyone lies.
Bart’s torso was found in rural Dane County, while remains from Krista were found in Sauk County and property run by the Department of Natural Resources, according to court documents obtained by The Wisconsin State Journal.
Their son had been searching Google for terms like “Body found Wisconsin,” “Woman’s body found in Wisconsin,” “Wisconsin dismembered body found,” and “Dead body found in Wisconsin,” authorities said. Investigators suggested Chandler Halderson used to a visit to property belonging to the partner of his girlfriend’s mother as cover to hide his father’s torso nearby. He had shot Bart Halderson at least once before dismembering him, officials said.
According to investigators, Halderson said after his arrest that “you don’t know the whole story,” and that he “didn’t feel bad about what I did.”

However, he would seem less evil/more insane/passive if it was presented as the idea of his uncle. There must be reasons why they didn't jump on it other than just missing it. Curious to find out...

I couldn’t believe Chandler’s response to the detective saying I’m sorry about what’s going on. Chandler replies something to the effect of-is what it is. I would be a crumpled heap on the floor in tears and when not crying, I’d be going 24/7 doing everything I possibly could to help. Krista and Bart seemed like great people, very good parents. Chandler hurt so many people with his selfish act but as long as he didn’t have to own up to no job, no school, that’s all that mattered to him.

I think it's interesting that everyone spoke so well of Bart and Krista and in fact the only one who couldn't find a kind word to say about Bart was our boy Chandler. He paints his father as being a hothead that everyone has to walk softly around because he gets in a foul mood and won't speak to anyone and you just have to stay away from him until he gets over whatever is bothering him. I never heard anyone else say Bart was that kind of person and it's really sad that only his son seems determined to make everyone think the very worst of his father. I guess Bart really ticked him off by calling the school and proving his lies!

I had a friend who dated a guy who lied-claimed that he was a doctor. I can understand a person lying defensively (ie if you tell the truth it will cause you to be in trouble) BUT This was a lie to impress. My friend split up with him--good. I guess the person you were dating was afraid you would look him up, so he didn't give real name? When I was young, that wasn't possible. Life was simpler back then but unless you hired a Private Detective or knew the cops it was hard to know anything about anyone. How did you find out he was lying?

11:09 "Picked up by friends". It sounds an awful lot like "Shanann said she was going to take the kids to a friends house and that she would be back later". Any time there is someone missing, and the relative our spouse says the missing person went to go be with an unnamed, unidentified "friend", then you know that person is responsible for their disappearance.

Why Chandler thought to say his dad packed a large amount of cash is beyond me. Did he not think how out of character that would be for his father? Bart and Krista clearly had a loving and supportive group of friends that they spent time with frequently, and who have a comprehensive understanding of their lives. They would immediately notice any inconsistencies with each of their behaviors. Chandler is hopeless.

I have given this some thought and I concluded that perhaps Chandler went in and emptied out the safe and attributed it to his father just in case Mitchell knew how much money should be there but is no longer there. We all know how strapped Chandler was for cash because he seemed too lazy to work and one of these videos includes a place where Chandler asked Cat for five dollars so he could get something to eat and drink. If he's begging his girlfriend for five bucks, four thousand dollars must have seemed like a HUGE amount to him and I don't think he would hesitate to steal it out of his father's safe. After all, he knows very well that his father will never notice it's gone.

I think it's similar to the Joel Guy Jr. case. They both had well off parents willing to help but preferred murder because of the added bonus of insurance money. Why fess up and risk exile or having to work when they could roll the dice and possibly come out hundreds of thousands of dollars richer? I recently read a qoute from a homicide detective who was questioned on why he thinks people believe they can get away with murder. He said that they're all arrogant and think they can beat the odds and get away with it.

The fact that he’s putting everyone through this with literally NO benefit just shows him as even more of a monster.

God this couple sounded so kind and loved. In his interrogation, Chandler, of course, made them sound controlling and almost abusive. I mean, they found out he was lying to them so maybe they weren't happy with him I'm sure, but I've seen nothing to support what he said. Also, it's really, really hard to see pictures of Bart sitting with his dog in a chair in front of the fireplace knowing what ended up happening in that fireplace. So unbelievably sick. All because he was going to get caught in a huge lie. Psychopath.

Absolutely 💯 Chandler probably had no idea that that neighbor was a retired police officer. Brilliant that he actually told him to keep in very close contact with the detective assigned to the case and even encouraged Chandler to have the police follow him for a few days! I noticed that Chandler said less to him than to the others about cameras/any possible video coverage. 📹 He also basically sealed in Chandlers head that the police will be able to access phone records, flight records, etc...

It's absolutely insane that Chandler didn't just plead guilty and take a plea deal (if one was offered yet), it is so crystal clear that he did this. I'm very interested to see where the defense goes with their argument, I can't imagine how they can try to pin this on someone else... Maybe they'll offer a plea deal later, he better just take it. How painful for Mitch to have to sit through this and hear how his parents were crudely dismembered and burned in their own fireplace. Just the ultimate trauma...

What I don't understand too is how did he expect to keep living the way that he was used to without them? They were the ones paying for everything! He apparently couldn't even cook for himself! What was his plan once his parents were out of the picture? That's what I truly don't understand. I guess he thought he was just going to use their bank cards or credit cards until he couldn't anymore? Or he just hoped that they wouldn't find the bodies and he'd get a payout and could continue to live without working. I just don't think he was that smart so I really don't understand what the end goal was for him here. I suppose that was the end game, get them out of the way so as to not have to actually do anything but this is so extreme I can't understand it. Even if he had money I don't see him being capable of doing anything for himself if he can't even feed himself...

During the audio conversation Chandler comes across as one of the most incompetent humans in existence. Doesn't know who the detective on the case is. Doesn't seem to know anything that could be of help. Even simple things that most adult sons would know about their parents. I don't blame the defense for their lack of cross examination in this trial. Most of this testimony so far has been Lego testimony. Small blocks, each pretty simple with little room for interpretation. Like Lego they will later be used in building the Prosecution's case for Chandler's guilt. Remember this is a real trial. Not a celebrity media circus or a courtroom drama.
