Yes I know the feeling in my mind and my body--the aching to get out into the wild by myself and reflect on things that are my private thoughts. sat up camp . have dinner and few drinks of whiskey and I am sitting back relaxing with good thoughts and memories---a real outdoors man requires this now and then .

Another fantastic camp Mike, just getting around to this one and well timed viewing to get away from all the uncertainty at the moment and just relax. I remember reading a book during my schooldays (back in the early 70's this would have been). The book must have been printed during the 50's or maybe eaven earlier. It stated in that book that to properly seal a canvas tent, get a dozen candles and a gallon of petrol. Warm the petrol in a large pot and dissolve the candles in the petrol, mixing all the while. When dissolved, paint the whole of the tent with the mixture whilst it was still warm using a four inch brush, paying special Attention to the seams - it said to do this on a warm summer's day for best results. Wait around four hours then repeat the process. I never even considered at the time how dangerous this could be! I doubt that such a book would be available today. It also described how to make a glider and encouraged boys to jump off high buildings to test it - I kid you not! On a lighter note, what a view you had from that tent, that alone would be worth the trip for me. My old tent was pretty similar to yours there, only I had a ridge pole for the top and a fly sheet. It would sleep at least 4 people, had the built in ground sheet but no side ventilation. It did however, have fly netting at the top of the door flaps and the rear top panels. The back of mine used to bow out, I don't want to say "bell end" but I'm sure you know what I mean. It wasn't military or anything so grand, just something to set up prior to night fishing on the local canal (The Feeder Canal, Bristol). I took it to Brean Down one year and pitched it behind the sand dunes - it blew a gale but it stood it very well indeed - ah those were the days! Ah bro I still find the F1 a special tent my man, this was the tent of choice when I finally ditched the Greater London area for the Peaks District a couple weeks back, Im telling you (not you mike, you already know) that canvas is better in quite a few regards to nylon and polyesters in strength and ability to stand up to heavier weather! When I was in the Peaks I had driving wind and random gusts all night long from one prevailing side and I know for a fact I would have been stressing all night with no sleep had I been in a synthetic tent, plus I got some good shut eye in the morning and wasnt wokened by the brightness that syntetic tents give after sunrise. PS: I did place a basha over it as extra rain protection / fly sheet. Cheers buddy, always a great pleasure when you uplaod

Hi Mike, interesting to hear your reflections, funny I worked self employed sandblasting glass for about eight years, lots of tableware and used to sell it in a craft market. Spent most of my time in the dark hot noisy dust of a workshop. Self isolating at mo to keep my family safe just cold/flu but not taking any chances, great to see you out in those smashing woods.
