*Update* : Due to hunting and habitant loss *around 1913 less than 20, yes less than 20 Asiatic lions were left.* And then after government & local communities did fantastic job to save Asiatic Lions from being extinct. Currently the official count is 674.

Perhaps you should listen more and post less. Asiatic lions are not native to Asia. Yet they care called Asiatic. Lions as a whole originate in Africa. Not everyone know that.

@@danteelliott1 -There are lions groups in Africa that barely grow manes, also, and seem to be losing them completely.... Plus he/they didn't mentioned on here, that Asiatic lions are now known as the same subspecies as the lions in the North half of Africa..

We have successfully increased the population of lions from 400 to 703 now in 2021. Plus we have also started sending Asiatic lions yo their habitats in the rest of Asia. I just hope we can restore them back to tharea where the existed in West Asia as well.

For those who don't know, there was a Nawab of Junagarh (Gujrat) in India who had protected the little population of Asiatic lions in his private hunting areas. So he was the reason for the presence of this majestic creature in the wild of Asia.

There was a very famous lion named kali he had 5 young sons in the Masai Mara in Kenya many people from around the world would come and see him and his sons patrolling the Savannah and being free as every lion should be he reigned as king for over 13 years he died in 2013 he was killed by poachers 😢🥺

RIP Kali. I won't forget that name. His story reminds me of a lion named Loonkito. He lives in Kenya, and he's the oldest lion ever recorded. He'll be 18yo this year, which is incredible when you realize male lions don't usually make it past 8 - 10 years. Anyways, Loonkito's brother, Ambogga died eight years ago. But, against all odds, old man Loonkito still continues to defend their pride and territory from young challengers every year all by himself. He's a legend.

I think we're going great. We have a successful tiger conservation program. We are soon going to reintroduce Asiatic cheetah in MP (extinct 50yrs backs) from Iran. We have the slowest extinction rate 1/4 of the other mega biodiversity hotspots.

Besides having a greater size advantage, the male African lion has a much longer, fuller mane than the Asiatic lion, affording the African much better protection for his neck and throat from the bites and claws of his Asiatic adversary.

North African lions disappeared from the wild but we still keep our beautiful Atlas lion in the zoo of Morocco 🇲🇦 and it's the most beautiful lion in Africa with the long black hair. U should search for the Barbary lion or Atlas lion to see how magnificent it looks 🦁🦁.

I know this goes against some but from a genetic standpoint, it might be good to breed a carefully selected African lion or lioness to an asiatic lion or lioness when the need arises to improve the gene pool of the asiatic lion only when the need arises. Hybrids often times are better than purebreds.

Conservation = Saving Gene pool. If you mix, there is no value for conservation. Like African Cheetahs reintroduction in India means little to nothing from conservation point of view. On the other hand, Iran's Asiatic Cheetah means a lot.

Though I know the African lion would slap the Asiatic lion into submission, the Asiatic lion is by far my favorite because it has an incredible historical presence and was found mainly in the desert environs. Its mentioned in the Bible (Samson and the lion of Judah), depicted and written about in both Assyrian artwork and literature and is the likely candidate for the Zodiac sign of Leo. Asiatic lions rule. I wish they could reclaim their native range.

I think the main lion which has always been used as a symbol of Lions is the barbary lion. That was the ones the Romans usually used.

You're underestimating the Asiatic lion, they're almost the same size lol, Asiatic lion's smaller mane makes it look even more smaller when compared to it's African cousin.

Not at all asian lion is more vicious & fights better than its African cousins due to one simple fact....it's competition is TIGER it's fighting style is same as the tiger & has strong hind legs like tiger asian is only 20 kg less than African lions ...for now but they fight alot better & viciously look up some video of Asiatic lions fighting truly brutal African lions cannot fight with both paws & fight like dogs

I put my money behind Asiatic lion. African lions are bullies, but very poor in a one on one fight. Even leopards easy beat them off and escape in a one on one situation. But when he has the backing of his pride, the African lion goes about roaring and bullying other animals.

@@dileep.v.m3967 That is completely false. African lions have defeated plenty of tigers in circuses and zoos. Lions are also known for defeating leopards regularly. Just because you haven't seen a video doesn't mean that it never happens.

@@pawanas7270 You clearly haven't done any research. 99.9% of recorded cases about lions vs tigers in the last century disagree with your opinion. Lions have defeated the tigers all the time. The top big cat handlers in the 20th century like Clyde Beatty claimed he lost around 40 tigers to lions but never lost a lion to a tiger.

I think the size gives more advantage when it comes to cats in general. Tiger is stronger because of it size and cheetah is weaker because of it size. Cheetah is faster because of it size so there are advantages and disadvantages regarding the size and weight

I think the size gives away the winner. Especially when compared to the gigantic lions found in East and South Africa. Elsewhere the African variants are closer in size and appearance to the Asiatic lion
