We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

I'm just running out of things to say about you two. Your family dynamic is a joy to watch. Your kids are getting an "education" that is not available anywhere else but from you in so many areas of life. The way you draw strength from each other by working together is a lesson many couples could learn from. And each accomplishment is a victory that only comes thru hard work and dedication to the task at hand. Just look what you have accomplished in the last 3 or 4 years. As life goes by we realize that 3 or 4 years is not very long at all in the grand scheme of things. You've come a very long way since the camper. Thank you for the smiles that you share with us!

What a huge job! There are different grasses that thrive in sun as opposed to shade. I suggest that you toss a shade mix of seed among the sod you just put down. While your sod is taking root, you can sprout some seeds that will thrive in the more shady conditions near the house. Congrats on another job well done!

Its more difficult to wrap and unwrap the other way. After you cut it, You would have to turn the grass upside down, roll it, transport it, unroll it, turn it upside down again, install it in the right position. That would make 3 more steps, which is more work and more damage to the grass. They did it the right way.

Coming from a family owned sod farm in Philadelphia your making me feel like I should be there helping you guys. One think you're right about is that it sure is some physical work. Are machines would fold the pieces in half not roll them but the dirt was always showing on the outside. And Erin you are a brute in a good way. I've seen a few hundred square feet of sod almost kill some men. And just a tip water, water, water!!!! Looking good 👍

I've laid acres of sod in my life. You will need to keep it well watered for a couple of weeks. The edges will be the first to dry out. Always try to keep your cuts to the inside by laying a border first, then fill in. Being slightly shaded will help keep it from drying out a much. Once the roots begin to attach themselves, you are home free. You did a great job. You should be proud of your hard work.

Reminds me of when my mom decided to put in around 5000 sq ft of garden. I was out there for a day chopping up sod. I am delighted to say that I did not have to remove the sod because it was not needed around the yard. Instead mom put out a sign that brought in neighbors to remove the sod (fight over it actually) FREE SOD. It was quite fun to watch the hords coming thru and picking out the last of the sod. Before I was finished had to use a tiller and spread out 30 yards of mulch. If I had known then what I know now would still have enjoyed watching LOL

Looking great! You guys are what it's all about, the personification of the American Dream. I'm happy to see that you've finally passed the million subs mark, that there are that many people who agree with me, and we're all happy to be along for the ride. Even if it's only watching from afar. Hopefully there are other young couples who are inspired by what your family has done and do the same. As a fellow Electrician I'm glad that Josh proves time and time again that Sparkys can do anything, at least well enough to make it work. I remember seeing one video where Josh had his shirt off, displaying a tattoo that says "Working Class". That's apt, and something to be proud of. Seems that we're a dying breed as more people these days expect to be handed everything for free. Without the working class, there would be no "everything". There would be nothing, in fact, and it is truly reassuring to see that there are still families carrying on the proud traditions that built this Country to begin with. Best wishes, best of luck and know that you are making a difference. These videos are more than just entertainment, they're instructional and motivational as well. Something needed now more than ever.

You guys are too cute, I reach that level of “can’t go on” way earlier than you guys. And on a lot less physical tasks, getting old blows. 🙃 You guys have at least a million in sweat equity for sure!!!! Always a great end result.

My hats off to both of you for hanging in there all these years building your homestead. You've inspired many people over the years about the blessings of country style living including myself. When I was your age I laid 10,000 s.f. of sod with the help of my family. And yes you are installing the sod correctly. Don't forget to roll the grass with a 55 gallon water drum to compact the sod into the existing soil once its all installed. It helps the roots germinate the the soil faster.

Everyone thinks gardening is easy until they try it :) You are my favorite youtube family and I can't wait until you have a garden full of food.

I think putting seed down would have been easier, but you get instant gratification and a sore back by doing it that way. lol. It's gonna look great. Your little girl is getting to be a very good little worker.

All I can say is your off grid home is by far the best I've ever seen. All that hard work is paying off. I wish I had seen something like this when I was younger. I really feel trapped by the grid.
