I think one driver a lot of people are overlooking for that merc seat (and I don't blame anyone for forgetting him) is Hulkenberg. If you can't get Alonso I think as a short-term reliable driver you can just chuck into the car, he'd be a brilliant option. You could offer him 1 year rolling contracts until Antonelli is ready. He's driven for a lot of different cars(Same amount of teams as Alonso) and never really been bad. Always been adaptable and a solid baseline. He's also clearly still very hungry. Definitely a dark horse option I think.

Similar to the big football clubs in the Premier League, it seems like F1 teams like Mercedes want to cash out while the valuation is peeking for maximum returns. Are these rumours an indication that F1 teams believe the valuation of teams is peeking?

Am I the only one who remembers that Charles only beat Sainz at the last race of the season (not forgetting all the penalties Sainz received for engine changes). Over a season, Charles is mediocre . A high profile Mr Saturday

1:01:45 "Antonelli demolished the opposition in Formula 2" - except he's never raced in F2 or F3. He has done well in F4 regional stuff and that's it. He is due to race in F2 this year.

Here's what I wonder. Both Hamilton as well as Sainz like an understeery car. Leclerc likes oversteery car. Wouldn't a Sainz/Hamilton duo make more sense? Also commercially; Leclerc is Monegask, Sainz is Spanish. French people already have the French drivers to route for, Sainz can apply to the many Spanish speaking countries, while Leclerc can do that for the... Monegask people? Sure, many Ferrari's there, but way more in the many Spanish speaking countries, not even talking about the other Stellantis brands (which is something I don't hear anyone talking about despite the Ferrari-drivers doing many things with Alfa Romeo for example. Also, can we stop with the simple assumption that Alonso is still WDC Alonso? He lost to Ocon at Alpine. Bad luck I hear you think? Take out all the races in which either of them retired and see what result remains between the two. Alonso is dominating Lance Stroll, bot all drivers on the grid can do that, including Magnussen who shouldn't be in the grid anymore, but is only there because Steiner lacked creativity and all the more experienced drivers were part of some contract other than Ferrari, making them unavailable to Haas.

Alonso is in the catbird seat. He has put Aston on the map, they will offer him a mint to stay for 2-3 more years. Mercedes needs a high value figure in the seat. Putting a rookie in with George is a huge downgrade for a top team. They will want the likes of Alonso in for a couple years while they groom the young up and comer.

no, nobody was close to red bull last year. no competition in 2 years. it is red bull and the field all cloned red bulls from last year. vassuer and toto admitted the knew the champ was over after testing of last year. The same will happen this year. The red bull will be even more dominant.
