This is what an EDC Altoids Kit might look like when turned inside out. The Pocket Rack (2.1) is a new way to build a compact, rugged and lightweight mini EDC organizer. The BIG NEWS is that you can now download the new 2.1 3D STL file for Free and test drive one for yourself. These mini organizers can be bundled to build modular EDC kits ( see: • A Better Way To Carry... ) or used individually as micro EDC organizers that you can carry in a belt pouch, coat pocket, backpack, car, truck, desk drawer or bag of prunes :-)

A link to the instructional PDF (see below) will give you information on where to get the 3D file for free. It also has information on where to get everything you need to make your own Pocket Rack. This is not a sponsored video. I have no business affiliation or sponsorship with any of the links mentioned in the PDF. To view the PDF go to: bit.ly/PocketRack2dot1

One thing I haven't seen mentioned. Available at any dollar store are elastic hair elastics, what s last might use to manage a ponytail. They're the right size, get thinner as you pull and you can get a ton of them for cheap without waiting for postage. They have a woven cover. Should be just the thing.

They have all been customized versions so far and soon we'll be seeing people with the new 2.1 version 3D print version. The more people we have using it, the more useful it's going to become as they start making modifications, customizing it and making it a better EDC tool for them. Seems like there could be an application for this in trucker's and mechanic's tool box lids. Something a little larger than these could be installed on the inside of the lid to hold various items. Something like this would breathe new life into old tool boxes.

@grumpyuncle. - Thank you for your post. Yes, I agree, there are quite a few different possible applications for this idea. We've outlined many of them in our provisional patent form. It's a simple concept and I think that is the appeal from many people who have been trying it out. These early adapters are the folks who determine if an idea like this has legs. If it does, then I'm sure we will see it move into other applications. Thanks again for sharing your idea.

You could wrap a smaller o-ring over the heat shrink tubing (parallel to the two holding ones) to use as a pull string to open it up.
@EarthlingEDC
@EarthlingEDC 7 ай бұрын
@corbenj - That's an interesting idea, but I think the O-Ring will bunch up the heat shrink tubing as you pull on it, reducing the area that comes in contact with the tool that it is holding down on the Rack. You might have to manually un-bunch it each time you pull on it. We've been working on some designs around this idea and one possible solution might be to replace the heat shrink tubing with 3D printed pads that are held in place by the bands and have a small "handle" or pull tab to on each band that you can pull up to insert an item. We've been working on an STL file for this. I'll post more images once we have something that woks. Thanks for your post.

I hope you don't mind me adding my idea here ,I don't have a printer so I made mine from an old dvd disc, I used a dremel and cut 2 sides equally to make it 3inches wide by 4 3/4 long with rounded ends , you could square that off if you wanted. I used a drill to make the slots and sanded all the rough edges off , There is an added bonus the dvd disc is highly reflective and could be used as a signaling mirror. Your cards are superior but I had some free time and did not want to wait to see if I could use this idea.! Thanks

Just printed one yesterday. My tools are a little longer.. I carry a marlin spike, diamond sharpner, small ratchet and extension. Fits, but I need to finagle a bit. Ordering small tin for bits, will be printing more. Wonder if scaling up would make for a good organizer for overstuffed work pouch.

@icervantesiii - I'm so glad you have printed one for yourself. I've actually considered making a larger rack as an insert for bigger pouches or bags. I think another subscriber had mentioned something like that that as well. What I'm finding interesting is the "finagling" part where I'm figuring out where the tools should go on the rack and what bands to go with what tools. and what tools to choose for the racks that you are building. At some point in that finagling process everything seems to come together. Enjoy the process and build something that works for your specific needs. There is a finger slit in the middle of one of the cards so that you can extract cash, credit cards and ID by pushing them through the opening on one side . Instead of 3D printing for some, I wonder if some kydex with those cutouts would work too. Don't know if kydex is rigid enough but I think it is. I actually haven't held kydex in my hand but it SEEMs like before it's molded that it's rigid like this stuff.

@EarthlingEDC

@Castleknight I've done it both ways. I prefer adding the pouch to a piece of 2mm Kydex. Outline the pouch on the Kydex then you can cut it to fit with a hand say. Sand and round ou tthe edges with some medium grit sand paper. Clean off the smooth side of the Kydex with some alcohol. Then attach the pouch. Once that done, on the other side attach some hook and loop tape to th other side of the kydex card and you can use that to attach it t your pocket rack.
