I vividly remember the night this aired. As soon as I saw the clip of him at the start of the newscast, I burst into tears. I knew before they announced it that he was gone. Jerry Turner and Al Sanders was a part of my childhood. I loved watching the news because of them. I felt so bad for the cast, especially Denise because she was extremely close to him. This year marks 20 years since he's been gone. The news hasn't been the same since. RIP Al. You are missed. :-(

Wow... talk about childhood memories. Al Sanders was the speaker at my Howard County high school graduation in 1985. Of course I don't remember much of what he actually said (LOL) but I do remember that his delivery was eloquent and he came across as someone who actually gave a damn about what would happen to us snot-nosed kids as we aged. RIP, Mr. Sanders.

Wonder if the video clip of him saying "Ocean Shitty" by accident on the air is floating around somewhere? Bob Turk and Denise Koch couldn't stop laughing that night. May have been one of the greatest evening news broadcasts ever.
