Kevin Monahan took the stand as the defense’s only witness in the driveway shooting trial. Monahan, who is accused of killing Kaylin Gillis, said he feels his “soul is dead” knowing that he took someone’s life.

Please consider this? If you are on your own private property and a group of unknown people just shows up unannounced and without making their intentions clear, are you not going to get nervous yourself? I am not condoning the taking a life but one man that feels under threat and that has to potentially defend himself and his wife against multiple individuals? He has the right to defend himself if necessary, and please take note, I had specifically said "if necessary". This case should not be used as another excuse to disarm the people, they should be able to defend themselves when there is a threat against their lives.

If you're that scared, you don't go outside, you talk from inside the door and you ask what the person wants. If you fire a warning shot, you do it from the doorway as protection from returning fire. Shotguns aren't accurate over a long distance, it would be extremely unlucky to hit a person down the driveway by stumbling; you would have to aim. This varies with the gun and other variables. From Shooting Illustrated: "accuracy beyond 50 yards is poor".

Definitely a load of BS. This was clearly a fantasy he was trying to live out. Like something out of a movie. The plot essentially goes like this: "Peaceful man forced to defend his home in the woods from invaders." I guarantee that's the fantasy he had playing in his head.

I think they proved the gun was defective and it went off by itself but a gun can't aim by itself.

that was his pathetic defense that was NOT proven. He's a murderer and the verdict confirmed that fact.
@321snoot2 ай бұрын
@@kevinbarry3548 Correct. He claimed the gun went off accidentally because he tripped on some nails, but there was no evidence of that at all. (Surprise!) As of today (3/1/24) he'll be spending life in prison. What normal, responsible person shoots a driver who accidentally pulled into his/her driveway? Nobody, that's who. This killer probably spent way too much time watching FOX "News".

I understand when he says the motorcycle came on up and the car was blocking his driveway…he might think he was going to get robbed. Turn on the lights and let the dogs out. That place was so beautiful I could see myself retiring up in the mountains but I’d put a gate and keep it locked. Then if someone is by your house…

If you angrily rush out if your house with a gun, there's going to be some liability for accidents. The amount of recklessness that it takes to charge out and confront people like that...

As a gun owner and 2nd amendment supporter, I've always believed that guns don't kill people. People do. And unfortunately, this is another irresponsible gun owner. No sign of a threat to bodily harm let alone his life. He fired a warning shot which almost always proves he was not in life threatening danger. That's an aggressive tactic and not a good look in court. You don't bring a gun to a fist fight... and you certainly don't bring a shotgun to a "non-combative" scenario. Holy sh17 😢 I can see myself in this scenario mentally knowing where my guns are with CELL PHONE in hand and 911 ready and peaking out my window like a crazy person... then laughing when they drive away and tell me why the hell they're here. Damn this is sad.

All i can say is this is tragic, it’s an example of a pure lack of judgement and responsibility. Regardless of what story he concocted YOU are responsible for anything your fire arm does. Period. This guys defense was “My gun did it not me” ridiculous. Also yall check your state laws. In Texas if the property is clearly posted as no trespassing what he did would be legal. So you also have a duty to know where your going and make sure your where you are supposed to be. We all know what can happen in Texas when you go onto peoples property without permission. Everyone may not agree with it, and I am not saying it’s right, or ok to shoot someone for just pulling in into your driveway, I’m saying in some states it is legal to shoot someone just for being on your property if the right conditions are met
