This, hilariously was more worth my 13 minutes to watch than deadmau5's $99 masterclass. As funny as that sounds, it's sadly true.

I haven't taken the class but that's kind of what I would expect. This is a basics/fundamentals class (a really good one within the domain of synthesis / sound-design). A 'master' class would assume you already have a journeyman level of understanding. It would focus on the esoteric and subtle but hard-won tricks that will take you from being better than 98% of other producers to being better than 99%. There's also the Green Lumber Fallacy--where some details don't matter as much as one would expect in terms of satisfying a market. I suppose it could also be: "I have no idea what I'm actually doing (LOL) but I stumbled onto something that people like". FWIW, Deadmau5 seems like someone who's at least capable of understanding the fundamentals. You're right that this series is awesome and probably a much better value for most people.

Thanks for the explanations. I just had a question pop up in my mind where I thought that I could use a parametric EQ as a filter, and technically speaking I can, but it requires some work to set up as you've shown with using bandpass filters to create format filters and using macros etc. Very interesting, thank you
@Woochia
@Woochia Жыл бұрын
If you're looking for some formant filters, I made a free filter pack for Ableton live. It's a collection of effect racks with some EQ8 in them so you don't have to set it up yourself. It's on my website woochia.com

Great video! How did you create that feedback comb filter with macros at 6:04?
@Woochia
@Woochia 9 ай бұрын
I used an EQ8 (two actually) and mapped each point to macros knobs, and adjusted the values so they move as a comb. This is part of a free pack you can get on my website if you want to see how it's made. It's woochia.com

Great tutorial, thanks. Please, how did you set up the Macro so that it cycled through the chains in the Effect Rack at 8:09 ?
@Woochia
@Woochia Жыл бұрын
That's in the effect rack. When you extend the chains, you can link the macro to the chain selector. The macro knob goes from 0 to 127, and for each chain you can set it to be active for specific ranges. It's represented as block that you can extend or shrink (it would be easier with a screenshot to show you)

First of all, THANKS for this videos i love u. At last, wanted to point out something that maybe i might be taking wrong but i think the Q is more about the withd of the curve of the EQ filter, like how steep (measured in dBs per octave) the boost or drop of the gain is, and the resonance is more about how much gain are you puting to the cut frecuency (and usually, it has a predeterminated Q) so they ain't the same thing, am i wrong?
@Woochia
@Woochia Жыл бұрын
The steepness of a filter is indeed expressed in dB per octave, but this is not the Q. The Q is used for resonator where it is the ratio between the energy stored and the energy lost in an oscilators cycle. The higher the Q the more resonant the thing is. So if slightly differents, A and resonance can pretty luch be used quite interchangeably

Hi Im searching for an EQ WITH HARMONIC FILTERING like Rodger Nichols Digital UNIQUALISER (no x64 vers so I cant use it anymore) Any help appreciated
@Woochia
@Woochia Жыл бұрын
I have to check that, but you're looking for a filter to cut a frequency and the harmonic series of that frequency ? That can be a comb filter. I've made a free collection of filters for Ableton live if you want to try it (it's all effect racks, so no need for max for live). It's on my website woochia.com

hey man, i have a questionm this has cardioid filter? in my house there is a lot of noises and i cant rec
@Woochia
@Woochia Жыл бұрын
What is a cardioid filter ? You may be talking about a cardioid mic. That's a mic that takes the sound more from the front than from the back, so yes that's a good type to record at home (so the noise coming from the back of the mic is reduced). But what kind of noise are you talking about ? Noisy street ? Or reverb in the room ? Maybe I have a video about cheap acoustic panel that could make (those are not the best acoustic panel I'll tell you, but they're cheap and easy to make)
