I couldn't find any video of UHMW being cut, so I decided to share my experience working with it. Gotta love the classy Police siren in the backround.

Never pull stock of any kind through a table saw. It’s a recipe for amputation. Usually the thumb.

Hey, I’m in the process of making some stuff out of UHMWPE, and when I try to grind it with a circular sander, it just melts when I use just enough pressure to slowly grind. What do you recommend for grinding this material?

Pretty sure you can't grind or sand it. I put a nice 45* chamfer in it using a wood router and a cheap 45* bit. Worked perfect with a nice clean cut. I believe I ordered all my material from USPlastics.com

Max managed to grind a bit. My UHMWPE recommended that if I must grind, stick to fresh “sharp” paper and start with the lower grits. 45 degree angles were a breeze. I’ll try with a router when I can afford one. Thanks

and still today... January in 2024, it's the best way to cut it :)

Hello! do you know by any chance, how thick was the uhmw sheet? and how hard is to bend it for a human?
@Diablo169er5 жыл бұрын
Serrrich that sheet was 5/8”, and it isn’t bending without a machine. That piece I cut has been used as a skid plate on my rock crawler since cut, and it still looks brand new even after years of abuse.

You can't glue pieces of UMHW together so I find this material to be some what limited in it's use. I prefer ABS, although it's completely different. If you need to put multi layers together in order to made a "sliding block" clamped on for a heavy shaft being pulled out of a huge generator or turbine, bolting the 3" sheets of UMHW which could be successfully cut even with a skill saw, drilled in the conventional way and even shaped with an ordinary electric planner still can only be secured together with machine screws or bolts, and somehow this can present it's own problems. And then there is the challenge of giving it a glossy finish; that seems to be impossible also. Give me some solutions!
