On the Faker take, so many things: 1. You can't just compare Faker to his younger self. You also have to compare the current state of league to it's previous years. Assassins aren't as common, mid lane is more balanced, solo kills are rare, supports have better peel options, ADC have a lot more mobility, dragon gave 1k gold globally (so fkin busted) and etc. Stopwatch wasn't even a thing. ADC were basically naked and it was nearly impossible to survive. It was easier to 1v9 mid lane. Remember broken ass Ryze? Remember Leblanc that would pop over a wall, 1 shot the ADC and the only counter-play was picking Maokai? Much, much different times. 2. Every mid plays the same 8 champions. If Faker has a shallow champion pool, then every other mid does too. Chovy only picked ONE champion during worlds that Faker didn’t play, which was Yone. 3. Yes, nobody expected Faker to become shot caller back in the early days....because that wasn't the role of mid. Mid was the mechanical God that would hard carry because, back then, mid was an insanely broken role. Remember how fkin insane TF used to be? Shot calling was always the role of the support or the jung. 4. You guys keep brining up one Ahri game as proof that he had a below God tier performance. What about the Akali game 3? What about him smurfing on LNG and JDG? What about the Azir shuffle in mid lane that turned around the game? You gotta provide me at least 3-5 examples of him throwind. 5. If you are going to insinuate that Faker may have been mid at worlds this year, then please tell me what other mid played significantly better. 6. Stop gatekeeping opinions. Yes you casted the games, but people like myself have been watching since S2. We got the same viewship experience you have. Stop the gas lighting. Crazy thing is, I'm not saying I disagree with your take. I just HEAVILY disagree with the justifications of the take. If you want to talk about kills, kill share, dpm, CSD at 15 and 30, ward kills and etc to show that Faker was behind the curve, then I'd be open to changing my mind. Until then Faker performed great at Worlds, he is still God tier and you two are coming across as bias haters.

you have a great way with explaining what I've been feeling as a viewer since Taipei Assassins era :) Totally agree with your take, just hate the gaslighting going on. The irony is, they're gaslighting people on what "T1 fans" think and say when it's just a small minority who think that. They then attack the opinion of those minority and bring it up as the reason why "T1 fans" a whole, suck. So frustrating

@padzman91 I feel you, man. It's the classic strawman argument. It's such an effective way to misrepresent people and add credibility to your argument in a deceitful manner. Used in politics all the time to divide people. Once you notice it, you can't unsee it. Just look for the comment section and find the craziness, nonsense argument and put everyone who disagrees with you in that category. It's immature.

Holy fuck thank you for the explanation , you nailed it , its disgusting , I was a viewer of Dom when I got into pro play esports in 2019 , I was an lpl fanboy , and this guy is the most dangerous brainwashing person in the scene he made me hate lck teams , but what turned me out of being an lpl fan is this year in spring when I saw how T1 was playing , I thought they were insane especially keria , their playstyle was soo fun to watch , its crazy bcz now what he is doing is to try to rewrite history and always makes narratives when it suits him its actually insane

ah yes, Faker is not good mechanically yet he gapped Knight, Scout best 2 mids in the world btw, and then you flame his ahri game(yes, it was bad) and talk about his champ pool? Why would he play any other champion if the teams are leaving them open? But they dont talk about Knight's Azir because that would make him look bad. Also, this narrative of: if your not 40 years old and didnt watch faker born you cant talk about his carreer, its as dumb as when people criticize you guys for talking about league gameplay if your not even a 1/10 of any of those players in skill.

The weird thing about WBG winning against BLG by having TheShy counterpick top, is that they got those counterpicks on blue side, that series had 100% WR on blue side, maybe they got baited by that but that still doesn't make sense when you know T1 was the only team to correctly use red side. Just weird they didn't try at least a red side game

Ah yes, Faker's mechanics are bad, cause he missed 2 important charms in a finals game that he went on to win anyway. Let's just forget how he gapped the LPL fanboys "best midlaner" Knight as well as Scout in the previous two bo5's, but sure he had 1 game where he didn't play out of his mind, must be washed.

Btw, I'm aware that he isn't the crazy monster in lane that he used to be, but to down play T1's worlds run is so unfair to not only them, but the fans as well. By now everyone is talking about Fakers macro sense, but there is another reason as well why he was the best midlaner at the tournament, he is clutch. More so then anyother midlaner, Faker makes plays in game states that no other midlaners do, you can tell me how Chovy is the best laner, or how Knight is the single scariest midlaner, but at the end of the day they didn't win, and there is a reason for that. There are so many legendary Faker moments, and not just from back in the days, but consistently, every tournament every year, cause thats what he does, he goes even in lane, and beats you with macro and if he can't he'll try to make the montage play of the tournament and more often then not he does. FYI I am a Diamond player who plays the game since season three, and have watched every single game Faker has played since s3 in the LCK or internationally, so please don't tell me how I have no clue about what I am talking about.

@@natankende4973 Most esports fans don't contribute anything meaningful except being a number. They have no claim to any achievements of any team and therefore it is impossible to treat them unfairly by criticizing a team. Fuck the fans. What you're ignoring is a fact that was talked about extensively in this episode. Faker just barely went above being a one-trick in this tournament. It seems plausible that in preparation he focused entirely on being strong on three champions (Azir, Orianna, Sylas) because he figured those will be the most reliable and defining picks. Precisely because he no longer has the mechanical prowess to just excel at everything. So he buckled down and worked on these three picks until he could play them in his sleep. Counting on the fact that banning him out would be a bad idea because the rest of his team was so dangerous. His montage plays are great but he isn't delivering multiple per game like he used to when his mechanics were at the top. Which is the entire point! He is super stable and shifted his focus on macro, which is a crazy feat. And the highlight plays that everyone then focuses on as arguments that his mechanics are still peaking probably require more game sense than anything. He is no longer running around making everyone go "How is that possible? I didn't even know you could do that!" on a minute to minute basis. Instead he is just reliable until he sees the opportunity because he has the game downloaded into his brain and unleashes in the key moment. That is the shift in Fakers game. Not that he doesn't have hands anymore. But that now that he no longer is on a constant mechanical peak he focuses on being solid while giga-braining the team, the game and - when he needs to - pouncing on opportunities that others don't see.

And those two charms are even that "important." The first one caused Xiaohu to run away with 1HP. Not getting the kill was a shame, but it led to what T1 really wanted: a 3-0 kills dragon fight win because mid and support are chunked low and it was a 3v5. (P.S. He did hit a charm on TheShy here to stop him from doing Aatrox things). The second one, he missed and didn't kill Xiaohu under Inhib turret and had to flash. It wasn't pretty, but it did result in the desired outcome: Xiaohu had to recall and T1 got to push inhib turret. Both of his "bad" plays on Ahri ended up being completely harmless to the game state. You know what's a good play that game nobody saw? The mid lane gank on Guma where WBG threw everything at him. Guess why WBG couldn't instantly follow up and pop Guma? Because Faker hit a charm and full combo on Light, forcing him to flash back and delaying his Senna ult. Those seconds he delayed was what allowed Zeus to arrive from mid and finish off Senna during her ult animation (which would've killed Guma and reset Aatrox's ult). Faker could've survived the fight too, he had one charge of his ult left and is already out of the fight. But he went back in to finish off Weiwei. He ultimately died, but he traded with Weiwei and got Crisp so low he's basically dead. This was THE game winning fight, but sure let's focus on his two missed charms that didn't affect the game state at all.

Monte actually I did watch Faker’s first 3 wins, I actually did watch his first ever pro league match, and I have watched enough of the LCK to have watched all of his matches either live or on vods. Feel free to still call me a casual since I’m no analyst or ex-pro but I do think you shouldn’t doubt him and I do believe he is the best player currently playing but this is probably due to differences in criteria. He’s shown that even when he’s not the best he’s still among the best mid laners in the world so depending upon your level of “doubt” you’d be foolish to just expect him to never contend or even win. As for being the best, I feel it’s more than just mechanical ability that makes a player great or the best, and I believe his contribution to his team along with his solid mechanics make him the best player there is at this moment post-worlds, though i can understand if someone defines that as not the best player, just the most important player. As far as his limited champion pool is concerned, I still believe it’s an ocean. It’s just not an ocean that includes every single champion at every single moment. As for Dom’s how many fake faker fans would have answered the question correctly: none of you could, what is the point of saying that? If someone could you’d probably turn around and say look at this faker fanboy, just another faker d*ck sucker.

Normally I would never respond to things like this such as your “Listen up Nephews” takes. But I have time and it’s a Saturday so why not. For my qualifications(as if that matters in the slightest), I have been watching Faker and LOL esports since 2013 Worlds. I am 24 years old and I’m attending medical school at the moment. I don’t think it matters whether or not someone was around to watch Faker win his first worlds. Disqualifying someone’s opinion due to their age or the length of their fandom is foolish at best. This is likely ragebait though. I believe the “narrative” about never doubting Faker is more likely to come from the fact that he has 100% semifinals in Worlds attended, 75% finals in Worlds attended and 50% Championship wins in Worlds attended. Seems to me like pretty good odds to not bet against him, no? (I’m sure Forest would agree) For his Champion pool at Worlds: Azir and Ori were almost never banned against Faker (outside of 2 games in Finals lol) Why should he go down the tier list of champions if the enemy team doesn’t force him to? His Sylas games were solid and his Akali game was wonderful. I don’t think anyone would say that 369 has a champ pool of Ksante and Renekton just because he was only at his best on those 2 champions. I don’t think anyone would call Knight a bad player because he can’t play Azir and his Orianna is mediocre at best. Playing a subset of champions =\= can only play those champions. I’m sure you guys would mention his Finals vs GENG / LCK summer playoffs as well when it comes to champion pool. Faker himself said he had no time to get comfortable on other champions at the time due to his injury. Holding that against him seems unfair, but I digress. I can agree that he is not the best mechanical mid. Players like Chovy, Scout and Knight are better mechanically. (Though he still managed to gap all 3 of them at Worlds, Chovy only in lane). However, mid lane is not just mechanics. His leadership, shotcalling, laning (it’s still very high tier) and much more all condensed in him being the best mid at Worlds by a country mile. (Also, we all saw how T1 looked without him. The intangibles are undeniable) I don’t think there’s really an argument for that. Note: I am not calling him the best mid this year. That would be Knight. You could argue Scout as well I suppose. However, saying that he was anything other than the best mid at Worlds is simply untrue. There is no argument I could possibly think of off the top of my head. I also think Faker was overall better than Oner at the tournament. (Not taking away from Oner obv) but Faker had maybe 2 bad games at Worlds. Oner had a slow start at Worlds this year. Maybe saying Faker was more consistent is a better way for me to put it. They both won games for T1 nearly near single-handedly. At worst they were 1a and 1b for the tourney. Ignoring literally the entire tourney for his bad game in game 1 of finals(it was bad, yes) is disingenuous. I’m sure your rebuttal( if this is even seen, which I doubt) will be that I am a Faker fanboy, dismissing all my arguments. But in the chance it isn’t, I would like to talk more on it since I haven’t gone into nearly as much detail as I could. Funnily enough, some things we do agree on, heh. It is what it is. I'd take the player with "shitty mecanics" (debatable after watching him in LNG/JDG series) and abysmal champion pool with game winning shotcalling and clutch plays over Scout, Knight or Chovy. Plus bringing up the finals to make their point when it was the happy gaming / winning parade ? It's like nothing happened before this series when they judge Faker... I would actually argue Faker IS as mechanically insane as he was a decade ago, he just has slower reflexes, less time to commit to practicing the way he used to, and he is studied and followed more than any other player in history. Adding to all that: he deals every day with hand/wrist pain but handles it much better than a comparable player like Uzi who took entire splits off to recover. It was only a matter of time before he got "figured out", but he continues to reinvent himself and put himself in the conversation as an elite, well-balanced midlaner who can be essential to his team's success.

Neeko is one of the main champs he played throughout summer and playoffs aka something GenG had no answer for as well. T1 banned it because it forced the Orianna and Azir trade which both went in favor of T1. Syndra was the only he has not played and that champ ended worlds with a 21% WR lol If anything Faker was the only smart one. Electing to play Syndra/Jayce who had a 20% wr and lower is why Dom/Monte are consider clown analyst.

First, my creds: (Yeah I know, no one asked) I moved to Korea in 2013 and started following Korean league during that Spring, instantly becoming an SKT and Faker fan during his debut split. There may not be many of us from that time period, but I'd like to think there is a strong contingency from the first couple Worlds runs of his career still supporting T1. I've watched every game of SKT/T1 since those days and just recently moved back to the US last year. Now for my rant.. Ambition wasn't "in the middle of the lane" Dom, he was nearly under tower when Faker killed him on Nidalee. Also it's interesting to me how Monte always gets wrapped up in these borderline strawman minority takes. I personally haven't seen the take that Faker is still the mechanical god he used to be and certainly haven't seen it proliferate on social media like Monte makes it out to be. I also AGREE btw that Faker is not a mechanical god these days. But guess what, he gapped Scout 2/3 games in lane and kept up/was more impactful mid-game in the third. He gapped or kept up with knight in lane every game and I would argue had more impact over the map+teamfights in 3/4 games. He gapped Chovy in lane. Was he the best player overall at this tournament? Depends on your criteria. Purely mechanics, no I think that would go to Zeus. The full package though, knowing what he does for T1 macro and strategy? Yes, I'd dare to say. I think this comment that's buried in a reply to another comment sums the rest of my thoughts on recent content from LFN completely. "He ,Thorin, and Dom consistently set up strawmen from singular tweets/reddit comments they've read that are meant to represent a much larger sample size of people than actually exist who believe the 'bullshit' the aforementioned individuals spew. It's basically just superiority-complex venting by reducing the perceived opposition's claims to complete absurdity and elevating themselves far enough above engaging the claims at all that they can avoid dealing with any potential nuance. I too have watched all of Faker's competitive career closely, nearly all of it live and with repeated viewings/review, and I still often come to the conclusions they assume only the 'fake nephew fans" do. Ultimately, the perspectives on this show are just as much rationalized emotion as anyone they disagree with, except they're portrayed as "more objective" due to the perceived latent credibility of longevity in the scene. Hate to break it to "you guys", but simply existing and watching events unfold out of the corner of your eye (with unconscious, bitter disdain might I add; Monte as a KT fan, Thorin as a fan of washed players that never made it, and Dom as a fan of anyone not named Korea/T1) does not guarantee the much sought after credibility of a true expert."

As a fan of Monte since 2013 I have to absolutely agree. His statement about Faker is only good because he surrounds himself with the best players is absolute dog. Did he not see what happened to T1 when Faker was out? They were literally losing to the 9th ranked team in LCK lol. Faker IS the reason his teammates are so goddamn good due to his ability to manage his entire team while also winning almost every mid lane matchups at worlds vs a bunch of mids who Monte says are so much better than Faker.

@@NZ_Legend The fact that Monte makes this statement is so stupid considering that the players that surround Faker are 3 talents scouted by Faker's home organization and the 4th one is a prodigy talent that joined T1 during his 2nd year of professional play. Faker didn't surround himself with players that are touted the best players, he was surrounded by young up and coming talent that eventually become amazing players and he's their captain.

No, MVP of the tournament was Faker. Oner improved alot over the course of the tournament, and I would put him as the second in T1 roster for this Worlds. But Oner was horrible in the early phase of the tournament. In the game against TL, instead of taking care of the bot lane that is hard pushing lane early (when the enemy jungler is Lee Sin), he ganks top and fails and gives over 2 kills to TL. Meanwhile, Pyosik Lee SIn ganks bot lane and kills 1, which gives early advantages to TL's bot lane as well. There was no need to hard dive top when your top is Jayce and when your bot lane, which desperately needs early advantage against high late game value enemy bot comp, pushes lane hard to gain early upperhand. Oner should have looked for counter ganks in bot. That decision alone nearly cost T1 the game. The only fact that T1 was better team allowed T1 to gradually win over TL through teamfights. Also, look at the game between T1 and Gen.G. Compare that game to JDG vs LNG game 1 and look at how Kanavi's Vi and Missing's Lulu are always one step ahead of enemy to play around Orianna while Orianna is split pushing. They position themselves faster than their opponent, gain vision advantage, preventing the enemy from making a quick collapse onto Orianna. Oner's jarvan did not know what to do in that game. He gains vision control at top and then moves towards mid, leaving a blank space allowing enemy to collapse onto Faker's Orianna. After T1 got the early advantage because Faker clapped Chovy in lane, Oner was running all over the place and did not know how to position himself around the map to priortize advantage. It was only from T1 vs BLG game that Oner figured out the right way to play the game. You can say that Faker was the 'worst' player in T1 during the Finals (though I would still say Guma was the 'worst' in the Finals and put Faker in 3rd - it was Zeus and Oner that carried the series and rest of the team just hopped onto the bus without overturning it) It is very funny that you guys are emphasizing the fact that Faker missed the charms in game 1. Sure, he had a bad game 1 of the series. But then he got better in game 2. And he CARRIED game 3. Why aren't you guys point out the fact that Zeus and Oner choked couple of times in the early phase of the game 3 of the finals (that gave huge advantage to Weibo) but busy pointing out Faker's Ahri missing charms? If you have experience as a progamer and caster, then you guys should know by now that missing couple of skillshots (unless it became the reason why they lost the game) isn't as nearly important as actually choking in lane phase. It was Faker's Akali successfully bypassing Azir Ult into WeiWei's Vel'koz and chomped down many of his health - which forced him to flash onto Zeus's Aatrox (and feeding him as a result) - that changed the course of the game. Plus, Faker did triple kills in the following teamfight around dragon, which put a final nail on a coffin. Then he initiated the next fight, destroying Weibo's team formation, win that teamfight and got the baron. So yeah, Faker carried game 3. Zeus's Aatrox surviving 1 vs 5 on the final fight was only possible because Faker's play allowed T1 to be that much ahead in the first place. You guys are not being honest with yourself as a 'professional'. Please be objective, or at least pretend to be objective and be fair. It was Faker that was the best out of all T1 roster and got the MVP of the series in both Quarterfinals and Semifinals. Faker simply gapped Scout in lane and outperformed Knight throughout the game, especially in teamfights and other crucial moments around objectives. Faker played the best out of all his teammates against the strong opponents like JDG (which I think would have either 3-0 or 3-1 Weibo in the Finals had they won the Semis) and carried his team to the finals when it mattered the most. Without Faker's dominance in teamfights and his clutch plays in game 3 against JDG, it would have been JDG on the Golden Road, not T1's 4th title. So yes, there was a great reason why the fans, especially after his performance against BLG in the Worlds, expected very highly of Faker. There is a reason why casters and analysts are focusing on praising Faker for hours: he is not only the GOAT (which is good for narrative of the tournament) but also the MVP of the tournament. How much better does Faker need to play so that you guys can actually acknowledge the fact that Faker was the MVP of the tournament?

@DarkCyberElf

It was more of a glow-back than a glow up. Oner returned to form, he didn't just suddenly and rapidly improve, he's looked above-average to damn good since his debut in 2021 and his Spring 2022 performances. Unfortunately, because memories are short and recency bias is always at an all-time high, the narratives around him being a borderline "dogshit" jungler swiftly gained traction after a single international tournament and one miserable split. The same thing happened with Gumayusi just last year, and no doubt that's why it came as such a surprise to non-fans of T1 that he bested Elk, Gala and Ruler at the end of the year, in a row. Oner might just be the first consistent year-to-year jungler Faker has that doesn't require a substitute just to maintain a functional team (cough cough Bengi).

Oh right, and the "Oner was the MVP of the whole tournament." opinion from Dom and Monte. CLEARLY someone erased the first couple of games of swiss rounds from their memory, because Oner's Jarvan was uh, NOT GOOD in those early games. Like how he whiffed E-Q and accidentally dove mid-turret vs C9, or how he left Faker to die in top lane vs GenG (Faker was actively asking for someone, just one person to cover him; Oner just... didn't). He improved massively after these games, but it doesn't mean they didn't happen. Oh, and they conveniently forget that in games 1 and 3 of the finals, Weiwei was doing much more in the early game and Zeus/Oner kept getting killed in 2v2s (WBG was 3-1 up in kills early in both games). Even in Game 2, they failed their lv6 Tower Dive on TheShy; TheShy just inted immediately afterward. Also, fuck this "broadcast ignored Oner/Zeus to only talk about Faker" narrative these two are trying to push. The broadcast talked about them A LOT. Emily, specifically, repeatedly pointed out how much Oner improved this Worlds compared to his very lackluster LCK summer season. These two are just mad the less-hardcore fans who aren't that deep into League gravitated toward, oh I don't know, the single-most recognizable ID in the entirety of this game's existence, and Riot's decision to focus their promotion on that.

Current Faker is not valued by his mechanics and champion pools, rather Faker's core values are his leadership and league IQs that lead to 2023 T1 victories. Without Faker T1 can't even make it to worlds.. There are no world final mvp form Zeus, no world class performers in Oner + Guma, and no world's best support in Keria without Faker piloting them to the stage. You DO KNOW that T1 just wouldn't agree to making such a trailer, period. I mean, why would they? putting immense pressure and emotional hardship on their 19 year old top laner before an already emotionally charged game?! their whole strategy has been to keep zeus out of the spotlight this time around, just have him swag in with shades, say nothing and carry games - they put the spotlight on Guma and Faker DELIBERATELY the whole tournament: in the trailers and in the interviews and even in their documentary releases because they aren't sensitive to these kind of fan narratives Think before you speak, man

@@Gaunerchen I think what OP's trying to say here is that, while yes, the broadcasts would want to tackle the Zeus angle, T1 management wouldn't agree to it. Watching the behind-the-scenes videos of T1, I can see Zeus, Oner and Keria are very emotional players. And while Keria enjoys the spotlight, Zeus and Oner seem to be more introverted, shy, and easily get nervous. In hindsight, I guess that explains why Zeus and Oner don't always feature in the hype videos.

How obsessive they are over their idols is downright unhealthy and they have bullied idols to suicide on at least 1 or 2 occasions I can remember. You would've thought that they learned by now to not be so mentally deranged, but of course they haven't and continue to make Kpop fans look like the most mentally ill fandom in the world (not sure if there would ever be any concrete data on this, but I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Kpop stans made it to top 5).

Faker also has repetitive stress injuries in his hands. He's not going to do the insane outplay mega hard laning matchups where he has to play everything on a razor's edge because he knows he could aggravate those injuries and since he's turned into a puppeteer more or less at this stage, additional physical pain doesn't provide the mental clarity that he needs.

Ngl, I was actually able to answer all of Dgon's Faker-related questions before Monte and Dom did, was even shouting "BECAUSE EASYHOON!!!!" at my screen when you were wondering why Faker only played a few games in 2015. And still, I think able to answer those questions ultimately mean nothing aside from having a good memory. I certainly don't think I'm more of an authority than anyone when it comes to analyzing Faker's legacy, because, at the end of the day, everybody has their own narratives and agenda that they want to push and believe. That, and everyone has different sets of criteria for determining their GOAT. That said, I do agree with some of Monte and Dom's take about Faker, though.
