My grandpa was on a tanker ship during Korea, basically they just refueled other ships and hung out all day. So naturally they got bored a lot, apparently one of his favorite activities was to fly seagulls. They would tie a hot dog onto a kite string and wait for a seagul too grab it, and then you could fly them around like a living, choking, kite. :D

The ship was so unlucky that almost 100 years later the microphone of a random guy in his 20's broke right before he started talking about it
