What is the point of these Yellow Card reviews? Because if the ref did get it wrong you wouldn't show it anyway because it makes them look bad? So the answer to the question every week will always be 'Yes the ref was correct'.

what happens if the two sideline referees disagree whether the ball from a penalty or conversion went over or not?

@@morgannel4419 I suppose each of them is assigned to a post and if one says the ball was not the right side of "their" post, the other just agrees. And I reckon they are able to check with the TMO, though I haven't seen that.

Its quite clear, with NZ at the helm of it, there's been a drive to push Bok style of rugby out of rugby, for decades. Amazing how folks forget our dominance in SR when it was first started, before all the constant juggling of rules changes on the regular ever since by New Zea... I mean Sanzaar... I mean IRB. The single largest weight behind rugby rule changes for going on two decades now has been NZ, to keep themselves and their style at the top and relevant. Finally changing, well at least at NH/international lvl. Things seem unfazed at Sanzaar lvl with clear discrepencies in officiating ideologies within the so called 'grey areas' of the rules. Still blow my mind how the North and South can have such different interpretations of the same rule book and that this has for decades, never been dealt with by IRB.

@@WorldRugby I support and respect every decision taken by the referee and just enjoy the game in that way, and also In half time I reflect on the decision taken and wonder how the game would be affected if any other decision was taken instead. But after all the best thing to do is to discuss the game with my old man “my dad”. Love the videos!!

Agree with this, SA 9 was offside, his feet were not behind the last man’s feet. He was also told by the ref three times to leave the ball. If he’d been onside he would have been fine.

Yeah i agree, he had hands in the ruck prior to this and Australia had advantage for an earlier infringement. He then continues to play the half-back despite being told to let it come out.

Yep, pretty certain they've been clamping down on people playing the 9 from the ruck for ages now - even if the 9 has lifted the ball.

If you watch it, faf is told a number of times to take his hands off the ball. SA failed to roll and trapped the ball in the ruck and the ref gave advantage to Aus because it was an unfair contest for the ball. faf doesn't take his hand off the ball and takes a swipe at the arm. Had it been a fair contest and the ref didn't tell faf to get out, it would have been play on for him.

Who wants to live in a world where doing that is allowed? He was swatting at it like a child...

Technically Faf was ok in that instance but in the context he was way out of line since the ref had already given several warnings, including to Faf specifically.

As much as I love Nigel, he got this completely wrong. Advantage is being played for Eben not rolling away, Faf then digs in to try and grab the ball and take away the advantage from Australia (which itself is cynical), his right foot is over the offside line the entire time (he even takes another step forward with it) and then he reaches around the ruck to strike Nic's arm. Quoting the law: 'A player must not physically or verbally abuse anyone. Physical abuse includes, but is not limited to, biting, *punching*, contact with the eye or eye area, striking with any part of the arm (including stiff-arm tackles), shoulder, head or knee(s), stamping, trampling, tripping or kicking.' Faf thinking he can get away with this reeks of Rassie thinking he's found some loophole in the law - and I'm surprised he's not whinging about it in another video.

Aus had advantage because SA didn't roll and trapped the ball in the ruck. SA stopped a fair contest for the ball and ref told faf a few times to stop and to get his hands off the ball as the ruck was lost. People are removing the action from the context of the game and claiming it was legal. The yellow was not for a knock on, it was for deliberately killing the ball on advantage after he was told to stop. Its a bit click baity that people are saying it was for a knock on.

@@bromponie7330 sure there is. SA did not roll away. They infringed at the ruck, the infringing player still did not roll away, the ball way still in the ruck. How can faf legally compete for the ball when a SA player is layng in the ruck? He was told to leave it because it wasn't a fair contest due to SA infringement. He did not listen and killed the ball so australia couldn't play their advantage. That's cynical.

@@fatalflyingguillotine The act of killing the ball is A-OK. It's equivalent to forcing a turnover when the opposite team has an advantage. Yes, they should go back for whatever penalty caused said "advantage", but deliberately making a (legal) play to "kill the ball" doesn't warrant giving them a yellow for it.

@@bromponie7330 idk what you are talking about, I've been pinged for killing the ball before. It's actually not ok and can be yellow card offece. Let me put it this way: not rolling away illegally slows or completely prevents a team from competing for the ball at the breakdown, when faf is told to take his hands off the ball, it's not because he is offside (he is clearly on his side of the ruck), it's because SA have stopped a fair contest test for the ball. When the ref tells him to take his hands off the ball it's because he can't legally take the ball because they have already illegally stop australia from competing for it. The ball isn't out of the ruck, the infringing SA player still has not rolled away, what changes? Nothing. So why would faf think that when the ref tells him to let the ball come to Australia that now it's a fair contest and he can go back to competing for the ball? Is it now a fair contest for the ball? No. SA still haven't rolled and they have slowed the ball down illegal by a few seconds already. He was told to stop and let the ball come to australia, he did not, that's cynical.

He speaks at least two fluently: Welsh and English. There are interviews of him speaking Welsh and even in the Italy Vs France game in 2020. Stephen Varney who was the Italian replacement scrum half was brought up in Wales and speaks Welsh as a first language and Nigel was giving him instructions and telling him off in Welsh.

I'm still trying to find where in the law you're allowed to slap/punch players anywhere, yet alone on the arm? AFAIK that's always been cynical play and goes against the spirit of the game - and in the 'Misconduct' section of the 'Foul Play' law it states 'A player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship.' It seems to me like Faf is convinced that this is a legitimate tactic due to it not being expressly forbidden in the law (as Nigel pointed out), but everyone knows it's completely contrary to the spirit of the game.

Happens all the time, as someone who has played a fair bit of second row it’s actually a bit of a target - just get in their way, slow them down, clean them out - in order to slow the next play down

Don't listen to them Frankie. You're right. The ref was right in fafs face telling him to stop because SA didn't roll and killed a fair contest for the ball. He didn't stop and got sent off for "deliberately killing the ball on advantage" as the ref clearly said to him. Nothing to do with a knock on and it's just click bait to stir controversy to say that's why the yellow was given.

@@WorldRugby only disagree regarding cards. I usually have at least one different view on cards. Sometimes he sees a red and I see a yellow.

The same reason Frans Malherbes fractionally late tackle on Matt Phillip in the opening minute of the game didn't get penalised/ carded....because rugby is chaotic and the rules are more like guidelines. Marikas effort was fair, body height was low, the arm doesn't really wrap but it is placed on the player tghe entirety of the contact, the angle and speed of the impact, the contributing leap into the tackle, the leading with the elbow (illegal) from mapimpi actually dislodges koroibetes arm initially. So much to consider. I watched the Australian broadcast of the game and they did actually check it and deem there was a wrap immediately after it happened.

The rules state that ...'the kick must be taken within 60 seconds (playing time) from the time the team indicated their intention to do so' - (not from when the kicking T is on the field) the Ref didn't enforce this - the kick should have been disallowed and a scrum awarded.

I saw it as coming around the side of the ruck, with hands in the ruck to deliberately slow the ball down, then slapping out of hand was cherry on top. They were under big pressure while Australia was under advantage, he tried to kill or slow it down by cheating. Yellow simple really

@@Peter_Peregrine Nigel also tried to point out Jordie Barrett's leg out in front when Koroibete tackled him in the air to be illegal and red card worthy, he was wrong about that, Barrett's red card and suspension was thrown out and deemed wrong by the judicial committee. I rewatched the cynical play and L is right. Faf had his hands in the ruck then reached around the side and slapped down White's hand, while Aussie was under advantage. Justified. This isn't the first time Nigel would be wrong.

It also didn't help SA that the assistant ref and the TMO was Australian !

It didn't help that the TMO and the touch judge was Australian... thats why many of those incidences were very much in favour of the Wallabies
